Abstract
This thesis investigates what correlations may exist between the development of color sense in Korean women and their experience in wearing generally achromatic uniforms during their years in school (three years in middle school and another three in high school). The following problems are discussed in the paper: A. Color preferences for clothes according to season B. Preferences for color harmony in clothes C. Color preference for clothes according to individual taste D. Reaction to school uniforms according to individual response This study concludes with the suggestion that color sense in Korean women may be improved by diversifying the colors selected for school uniforms. The study was conducted by questionnaires given to Korean women 20 to 21 years old in Seoul. Respondents were requested to select th0ir favorite color among 20 colors which included Munsell's major 9 colors. The respondents were senior high school students, college students and office workers. The contents of the questionnaire included these questions: 1. 6 queries about color preference according to clothing item 2. 2 queries about c010r harmony 3. 10 queries in ""O"" ""X"" form about color preference for clothes 4. Fill-in-the blank and multiple choice queries about school uniforms were given to two seperate respondent groups: 6 queries to female college students/office workers and S queries to high school students. The results of the questionnaire follow: A. Color preferences for clothes according to season 1. The result shows that 5Y9/14, 5YR6/12, 5GY5/5. N/10 and 3.5R8.5/4 were selected in order for spring, N/10, 5B4/8, 9.5B7/5.5 and 5PB3/4 for summer, 10YR6/9. 10R5/6, 5GYS/5 and N5.5/10 for autumn, N/0, loR5/6, N5.5/lo and 3.5R8.5/4 for winter. 2. Among the respondents, office workers have the most distinctive color sence and seem to select colors objectively whereas college students selected colors by subjective preferences which accord with season. The fact that senior high school students selected various colors could be explained as psychological desire for color changes from the fixed colors of school uniforms. 2. The most preferred color for blouses S3ems to be white without consideration of season, and this could be considered as a correlation with the usual white color of school uniform blouses. 4. The major colors for winter coats for senior high school students are N/O and IBG3/3, but the report shows that only a few respondents selected black (N/O) for coats which indicates a low interest and a tendency to avoid the colors of school uniforms. 5. The colors the respondents selected overall are, in order, N/10, 10R5/6, N/O, 5R4/14, 5Y9/14 and 5YR6/12. The tendency to select achromatic colors, N/O and N/10, could be presumed as a correlation with the colors of school uniforms. The relative high selection rate for red(5R4/l4) and yellow (5Y9/l4) seems to reflect a psychological reaction against school uniform colors. B. Preferences for color harmony in clothes The report shows that the choices of colors for upper garments are various when pants or skirts are solid colors. This shows that school uniform blouses instead of pants or skirts should be made of patterned material. C. Color preference for clothes According to individual taste Respondents are influenced in their selection of ready-made garments by color harmony between colors of garments and show window display, but not by fashionable colors. D. Respondents who wore chromatic colored school uniforms were more satisfied with school uniforms them those who wore achromatic colored school uniforms. Respondents who wore achromatic colored school uniforms wear informal clothes more often than those who wore chromatic colored school uniforms. These results of the questionnaires lead to the conclusion that the wearing of school uniforms correlates with the color sense of 2O-to-21-year-old Korean women: the wearing of school uniforms influences their color sens,]. Therefore school uniforms should be improved with an over-all and ration'1l color scheme.;校服制定이 時代的, 歷史的 狀況과 그에 따른 敎育理念과 상관관계가 있었던 것임을 고찰하고, 色彩는 각기 다른 性質과 影響力을 지니고 언제나 우리의 視覺的인 環境으로써 作用하고 있음을 알게 된다.
