An English Web Guide for the Ewha Womans University Pofessional Writing Program

Abstract

This thesis introduces the Professional Writing Program (PWP), a twoyear master’s program at Ewha Womans University, to the public and raises their interest in it through a well-designed English Web site with accurate and essential information about the program. At the same time, the Web site itself is designed to represent the best practices of Web design. The PWP is not well-known to the Korean public, partly because there is no public medium of information about it. The PWP site can serve as a model for similar websites in the future. This Web guide is accompanied by a theoretical paper that discusses specific principles of creating a usable and effective Web site, including Web content, site architecture, and design. It also provides a survey of websites devoted to similar programs and presents a design plan for the PWP English site. Results of usability testing showed that users were highly satisfied with both the design and the information in the new Web guide. The design and testing of the PWP site demonstrate that neat design, clear organization, clear labeling of menu categories, and relevant content increase usability and satisfaction.;본 논문은 이화여대 대학원 과정인 전문영어에 대한 유용하고 정확한 정보를 제공하는 영문 웹사이트 구축하고 이를 통해 전문영어 과정을 대중에게 알리고 이에 대한 관심을 증대 시키는데 목적을 둔다. 또한 본 논문은 웹 디자인에 관한 이론들을 논하고 전문영어 영문 웹사이트 제작함에 있어 이를 최대한 적용한다. 전문영어는 이를 홍보하는 대중매체가 존재하지 않아 한국 대중에게 잘 알려지지 않았다. 전문영어 영문 웹사이트는 앞으로 유사한 웹사이트를 구축하는데 있어 모범이 될 수 있는 가능성을 가지고 있다. 본 논문은 웹 컨텐츠 및 아키텍처와 디자인에 관한 세부적 원칙들을 논한다. 또한 기존에 제작된 영문 웹사이트들을 분석하며, 전문영어 영문 웹사이트의 기획안을 제공한다. 유용성의 측면에 관한 시험 결과, 사용자들은 전문영어의 새로운 영문 웹사이트 디자인과 제공된 정보에 대해 매우 만족한 결과를 얻었다. 전문영어 웹사이트의 디자인과 시험 결과, 깔끔한 구성 및 명확한 메뉴의 분류와 유용한 컨텐츠가 사용자의 편리성과 만족도를 향상시키는데 기여했다는 결과를 얻었다.
