프랙탈 기하학을 응용한 실험적 가구디자인 개발 연구

Abstract

1920년대부터 시작된 디자인의 새로운 질서와 형태의 탐색은 새로운 철학과 이상을 향한 국면을 맞게 되었다. 디자이너들은 유토피아적 이상과 이념으로 무장한 모더니즘으로는 더 이상 새로움을 발견할 수가 없다는 것과 상업적인 이윤추구의 도구로 전락해 가는 모더니즘의 한계를 느끼고 과학적인 이론에서 그 법칙과 구조를 찾기 시작했다. 한 시대의 디자인은 다른 조형예술영역에서와 마찬가지로 그 시대를 지배하는 자연관과 세계관 위에서 형성된다. 새로운 자연인식은 새로운 과학 패러다임을 낳으며 동시에 새로운 조형언어를 만들어낸다. 그래서 자연, 과학, 예술은 연동되어 변화하는 관계로 이해될 수 있다. 카오스와 프랙탈 이론에 기초한 예술은 자연과학의 패러다임의 전환에 따른 것으로 과거와는 다른 새로운 조형패턴의 세계를 열어가고 있다. 이러한 패턴들이 인간 경험에 어떠한 영향을 미치며 어떠한 효과를 가져다주는 지는 아직 단언할 수 없지만 많은 부분 다양하고 역동적인 공간의 창출과 유기적인 형태적 비전을 제시하고 있다. 오늘날 카오스(chaos)와 프랙탈(fractals)이 디자인의 연구대상으로 부상하게 된 것은 새로운 과학적 방법을 추구 하는 현대의 시대정신과 일치하는 것이다. 지난 세기말의 디자인학 연구는 종래의 환원적이고 유클리드 기하학적인 디자인의 한계를 인식하고 그에 대응하는 새로운 사고방법을 모색하고 있었다. 창조적 디자이너의 사고와 디자인 과정은 혼돈 속에 내재된 질서와 수많은 개연성 중에서 모종의 가능성을 선택하는 일련의 혼돈적인 개방시스템으로 설명된다. 과학과 예술의 상보적 관계 속에서 카오스 이론과 프랙탈 기하학은 디자이너의 자연인식과 디자인 사고에 새로운 개념과 언어를 제공하고 있으며 가구디자인 방법과 과정에도 무한한 조형적 가능성을 제시하고 있다. 한편 그것은 오늘날 우리로 하여금 자연, 과학, 예술을 이해하는 고정관념으로부터 벗어날 것을 요구하고 있다. 이에 본 연구는 프랙탈 기하학의 이해를 통하여 자연형태 속에 내재된 프랙탈적 질서를 조형적 관찰을 통하여 체계적으로 분석하고 파악하여 디자인의 형태로 활용하고자 한다. 즉 프랙탈의 디자인적 개념과 특징을 찾아서 프랙탈 디자인의 사고가 작품으로 표현되는 과정을 통해 응용가능성을 제시하고자 하는 것이다. 이러한 과정을 통해 수학적 이론과 예술의 접목을 시도하고 디자인은 완성된 개념이 아니라 계속 발전되어 간다는 것에 의의를 두고 프랙탈 기하학을 바탕으로 새로운 디자인개념과 특성을 제안하는 것이 목적이다. 본 연구에서는 새로운 과학이론으로서의 프랙탈 개념을 가구디자인에 의한 준거의 틀로 설정하였다. 연구를 통하여 과학과 예술의 관계 속에서 프랙탈 기하학 이론의 자연인식과 디자인사고에 대한 새로운 개념 언어를 제공하고 있으며 가구디자인 방법에 대한 무한한 조형적인 가능성을 제시하고 있음을 확인할 수 있었다.;The quest for the new order and form of designs that began from the 1920s took a fresh twist towards new philosophy and ideal. Feeling that they were no more able to find out novelty with the modernism armed with utopian ideal and ideology, and that the modernism was descending to the tool for the pursuit of commercial profits, designers began to look for the law and structure from scientific theories. Likewise in other formative arts, the design of an era is formed on the basis of a view of nature and a view of the world that dominate the era. The new awareness of the nature brings about both a new scientific paradigm and a new formative language. So, nature, science, and arts can be considered as the relationship changing after being connected. The arts based on Chaos and fractal theory are things resulting from the paradigm switch of natural science, and are opening a new formative arts-world which is different from that of the past. Though we cannot say positively what effects these patterns have on human experiences, they are presenting the creation of various and dynamic space, and organic formative visions in many ways. Nowadays, that chaos and fractals became an object of the design study corresponds with the current thought that pursues a new scientific method. Design research of the end of the last century was seeking a new thought method to cope with it after realizing the limit of the traditional reductive and Euclidian geometric design. The creative designer's idea and the design process can be explained as a series of chaotic open system that chooses a certain possibility among the order and numerous probabilities intrinsic in chaos. In the complementary relationship between science and arts, Chaos theory and Fractal geometry are supplying a new concept and language to a designer's nature awareness and the design thinking, and are presenting unlimited formative possibilities to also furniture design methods and processes. On the other hand, it is requiring us to get out of the fixed idea to understand nature, science, and arts. So, this research tries to apply it as a design form by analyzing and grasping systematically the fractal order intrinsic in natural forms through the formative observation by understanding Fractal geometry. That is, this research tries to propose the application possibilities through the processes that Fractal design idea is expressed as a work after finding out the concept and features of Fractal design. This research tries to combine mathematical theory with arts through these processes, and aims at presenting a new design concept and features on the basis of Fractal geometry by attaching significance to the fact that design is developing incessantly, not a completed concept. This research set Fractal concept of a new scientific theory as the frame of the conformity. We were able to ascertain that this research was supplying a new conceptual language for the nature awareness and design thinking of Fractal geometrical theory in the relationship of nature and science through this research, and that it was proposing the unlimited formative possibilities for furniture design methods.
