토픽 모델링을 활용한 직업 목적 한국어 교육 연구 동향 분석

Abstract

본 연구의 목적은 한국어 교육학 분야에서 연구의 수가 점차 증가하고 있는 직업 목적 한국어 교육 연구의 동향을 살펴보고, 앞으로 직업 목적 한국어 교육 연구가 나아갈 방향성을 모색하는 것이다. 본 연구에서는 직업 목적 한국어 교육 연구의 동향을 살펴보기 위해 키워드 네트워크 분석과 토픽 모델링을 활용하여 2001년부터 2023년까지의 연구 동향을 살펴보았다. Ⅰ장에서는 본 연구의 목적에 대해 설명하고, Ⅱ장에서는 키워드 네트워크 분석과 토픽 모델링 방식을 활용한 한국어 교육 연구의 동향을 한국어 교육 분야와 타 학문 분야로 나누어 살펴보았다. Ⅲ장에서는 직업 목적 한국어 교육 연구의 동향 분석을 위해 방대한 양의 데이터 속에서 직업 목적 한국어 교육의 키워드가 어떤 주제를 중심으로 연구가 이루어지고 있는지, 시기별로 살펴보고, 중심성을 가지는 단어(토픽)를 추출하여 연구의 경향을 파악하였다. 이를 위해 직업 목적 한국어 교육과 관련한 2001년부터 2023년까지의 연구물들을 RISS(학술연구정보서비스)에서 ‘특수 목적 한국어 교육’, ‘직업 목적 한국어 교육’, ‘비즈니스 한국어 교육’, ‘특수 목적 한국어 교육’, ‘NCS 기반 한국어 교육’, ‘한국어 교육 연구 동향’ 등을 키워드로 하여 1차 검색을 진행하였다. 본 연구에서 살펴보고자 하는 직업 목적 한국어 교육 연구는 1차 검색 키워드처럼 다양한 용어로 연구되어 왔다. 그렇기 때문에 연구 범위 설정에 맞는 연구물의 수집을 위해 키워드별로 연구물을 수집하였음을 밝힌다. 이렇게 수집한 연구물은 제외 기준에 따라 최종적으로 선별한 후 엑셀 코딩과 R 프로그램을 통해 데이터 전 처리 작업 및 키워드 네트워크 분석, 토픽 모델링 분석을 수행하였다. Ⅳ장에서는 도출된 연구 결과에 따른 직업 목적 한국어 교육 분야에서 많이 수행된 연구들의 주제를 파악하고, 시기별로 새롭게 등장한 주제를 통해 앞으로 직업 목적 한국어 교육 연구의 나아갈 방향을 모색하였다. 본 연구는 직업 목적 한국어 교육 연구의 동향 분석을 위해 전반적인 연구 주제를 객관적인 수치를 통해 살펴보고자 키워드 네트워크 분석과 토픽 모델링을 활용하였다. 이를 통해 시기별로 나눈 직업 목적 한국어 교육 연구의 논문 추이를 파악하고, 그 안에서 가장 중점적으로 다루어진 연구의 주제어를 도출하였으며, 이를 중심성 분석을 통해 키워드 간의 경향을 파악하였다. 다만 본 연구에서 분석한 직업 목적 한국어 교육 연구의 동향 분석이 방대한 주제어 검색으로 인해 세부적으로 연구를 논하지 못한 점은 한계로 남는다. 그러나 그동안 직업 목적 한국어 교육 연구에서 잘 시도되지 않았던 키워드 네트워크 분석과 토픽 모델링으로 도출한 객관적 수치를 통해 향후 다양한 주제로의 발전 가능성과 직업 목적 한국어 교육 연구자들에게 주제를 선정하는데 참고할 자료를 모색하였다는 점에서 의의가 있다.;This study aimed to review the literature on Korean language education for vocational purposes over the last 20 years to analyze research trends and discuss future tasks. Research trends were analyzed using network analysis and topic modeling. Relevant literature was primarily collected through two-step keyword searches in the Research Information Sharing Service (RISS). Because the literature includes papers using various terms, such as “business purposes,” “vocational purposes,” and “special purposes,” the first search aimed to collect broadly related research cases, and the second aimed to review the collected literature and classify studies according to the purpose of the Korean language education they studied. A total of 576 papers, including theses and academic journal articles, regarding Korean language education research for vocational purposes were collected. The research trends by period can be described as follows. Between 2000 and 2009, 44 research works regarding Korean language education for vocational purposes were published, which sharply increased to a total of 416 between 2010 and 2020. This trend can be attributed to the growing interest in Korean language education due to changes in government policies since 2010—including those related to foreign students (Study Korea Project), multicultural family support, and foreign worker visas—as well as the provision of major courses on Korean language education across universities. Furthermore, the centrality analysis of studies on Korean language education for vocational purposes showed that “laborers,” “multiculturalism,” “business,” “programs,” “immigrant women,” and “Vietnam” were dominant themes. Research trends by period are described as follows. Between 2010 and 2014, the keywords with a high degree of centrality were “multiculturalism,” “programs,” “immigrant women,” and “business communication,” while a new keyword, “international students,” began to appear as a theme. From 2015 to 2019, new keywords, such as “multicultural competency,” “multicultural instructor,” and “coordinator” emerged, which could be attributed to broader, more detailed research on Korean language education for vocational purposes, which had initially been dominated by themes such as “immigrant women for marriage” and “multicultural families.” From 2020 to 2023, keywords strongly correlated with laborers were "identified as “role play” and “multicultural King Sejong Institute,” while keywords strongly correlated with “multiculturalism” were “high school students,” “online,” and “vocational purposes.” Furthermore, keywords such as “coronavirus,” “interpretation and translation,” and “personal statement ” reflect the shift in the Korean language education system to an online mode in response to the COVID-19 pandemic and the consequent shift in research focus. The results of topic modeling based on all research articles subject to analysis are described depending on the levels of weight as follows. The analysis results utilizing the five most frequent topic keywords showed the same pattern as the keyword network analysis: programs (Topic 1) with a frequency of 24.8 % among all keywords, business purposes (Topic 2), expertise (Topic 3), social integration programs (Topic 4), and international students (Topic 5). These five most frequent topics could reveal which themes had been examined in Korean language education research for vocational purposes. These results revealed topic keywords ranked low in research priorities, which could be further explored as follow-up research themes. This study analyzed research trends regarding Korean language education for vocational purposes through keyword network analysis and topic modeling, which facilitate objective trend analysis. These methods were successfully applied to determine the dominant themes in research on Korean language education for vocational purposes between 2000 and 2023. In the big data era, this approach may be useful in analyzing large amounts of text to reveal dominant topics through objective statistical methods. Such analysis provides direction for future research by clarifying the areas that have received the most research attention. However, this study has some limitations regarding the content of research on Korean language education for vocational purposes," but this would still be quite vague. Future research can build on the results of this study by focusing on the major keywords and themes it revealed.
