한국과 일본의 회고적 영화를 통해서 본 노스탤지어에 대한 비교문화분석

Abstract

본 논문의 목적은 기억과 욕망에 대한 이론을 활용해서 한국과 일본의 회고적 영화에 나타난 노스탤지어 요소를 비교분석함으로써 문화이해 차원에서 노스탤지어가 갖는 가치에 대해서 고찰하는 데에 있다. 본 논문의 구성은 다음과 같다. Ⅰ장에서는 먼저 2000년대 이후에 한국과 일본에서 일어난 복고 붐에 대해서 언급하면서 노스탤지어 소비를 하나의 문화현상으로 본 다음 본 논문에서 분석하고자 하는 내용에 대해서 설명하였다. 그리고 회고적 영화와 노스탤지어 혹은 향수에 대해서 연구한 기존연구들의 성과를 분석하고 소개한 다음 본 논문만의 창의성을 세 가지로 언급하였다. 마지막으로 이번에 분석할 작품들의 줄거리와 개봉 연도 등 상세 정보를 기재하여 영화 소개를 하였다. Ⅱ장에서는 노스탤지어를 형성하는 중요 요소인 기억과 욕망에 대해서 이론적으로 논의하고 서로의 상관관계에 대해서 정리하였다. 기억과 욕망 분석에 대한 이론적 토대로는 정신분석학의 대가인 자크 라캉(Jacques Lacan)의 이론을 활용하였다. 꿈의 형성과정에 대해서 그가 주장한 ‘반복’과 ‘사후성’의 이론을 기억 형성에 적용시켰으며 기억으로서의 과거가 실제와 다른 상상적 과거임을 확인하였다. 욕망에 대한 이론적 토대로는 라캉과 아울러 슬라보예 지젝(Slavoj Zizek)의 이론을 활용하였다. 그들의 이론을 통해서 욕망은 ①결핍으로 인해 생산되며 ②본질적으로 충족이 불가능하기 때문에 ③우리의 환상 속에 투사된다는 점을 알 수 있었다. 이 장에서는 이러한 욕망의 특징을 추억의 특징과 일맥상통한다고 보고 노스탤지어와 회고적 영화에 대한 논의로 접목시켰다. 또 한국과 일본에서 2000년대 이후에 일어난 복고 열풍에 대해서도 언급하고 영화 분석의 바탕을 준비하였다. Ⅲ장에서는 한국과 일본의 회고적 영화 총 10 편을 분석 자료로 삼아 작품 속에 표현된 노스탤지어 요소를 비교분석하였다. 본 논문에서는 과거의 우정과 가족 그리고 청춘이라는 세 가지 요소에 주목하였다. 각 요소가 표현되는 장면에 대해서 설명하고 한국과 일본 간의 차이를 명확하게 한 다음, 그것이 왜 두 나라의 대중들에게 노스탤지어로 소환되는지에 대해서 고찰하였다. Ⅳ장에서는 앞의 장에서 논의 및 분석한 내용들을 다시 정리한 다음 노스탤지어의 가치에 대해서 고찰하였다. 특히 한국과 일본의 대중문화에서 노스탤지어가 갖는 가치에 대해서 타문화이해 차원에서 그 중요성에 대해서 고찰하였다. 마지막으로 본 논문에서는 회고적 영화 속에 표현된 노스탤지어에 대해서 비교분석을 시도하였으나 노스탤지어라는 것 자체가 추상적인 개념이고 기억과 욕망 또한 사람마다 다를 수 밖에 없으므로 10 편의 영화만을 통해서 노스탤지어라는 현상을 일반화시키는 데 어려움이 있음을 본 논문에 한계점으로 미리 밝힌다. ;This paper purposes of examining the value of nostalgia for a cross-cultural understanding of Korea and Japan by comparing and analyzing nostalgic expressions in Korean and Japanese films. For the analysis, I use the psychological theory of memory and desire presented by Jacque Lacan and Slavoj Zizek. In Chapter I, I examine the ‘retro boom’ that has been found in the two countries since the early 2000s and regarded it as a significant cultural phenomenon. Also, I analyzed the previous literature on nostalgia and pop films. Chapter II summarizes the theoretical approaches to memory and desire that constitute nostalgia. To provide a theoretical background for my analysis of memory and desire, I use the theories of Jacques Lacan and Slavoj Zizek. Lacan emphasizes the importance of thinking about the past and analyzes in the process of which dream is formed. And Lacan argues that memory may be different from reality. To sum up their psychological theory of memory and desire, I confirm that desire arises from deficiency, but that it can never be satisfied no matter what. So desire is projected into the fantasy we make. In this paper, I apply these features of desire into the cross-cultural analysis of Korean and Japanese group memory. Especially, I combine the theoretical discussion with the expression of nostalgia in popular films. Lastly, I argue that the retro boom has occurred after the 2000s in Korea and Japan almost simultaneously and summarize the basic plots for movie analysis in the next chapter. In Chapter III, I examine the cultural elements of nostalgia in Korea and Japan by comparing nine recent films (four Korean films, give Japanese films). In the textual analysis, I focus on how the sense of loss takes concrete forms of friendship, family, and youth. I explain the scenes in which each feeling is expressed in the films, and clarify the difference between Korean and Japanese ways of constructing group memory. In chapter IV, I reassess the value of nostalgia (and also that in popular culture), especially in terms of mutual understanding between Korea and Japan. Nevertheless, this study has a limitation that as the nostalgia itself is an abstract concept and the memory, and desire also differ in the way each person feels. So my goal is not to generalize the nature of nostalgia, but to attempt a case study.
