Abstract
At present, more than half of Korean high school graduates (69.7%) are experiencing college life (National Statistical Office, 2018), and the problem of adaptation and maladjustment of college life is not only a problem within the university but also a problem of adaptation and maladjustment of social life have. In other words, the research on adaptation and maladjustment of college life will be a useful tool for not only university students but also society as a whole. This study examined the relationship between perceived self-determination, personal-major fit, and adjustment to college. Self-determination and personal-major fit were selected as variables to enhance college life adjustment. First, the self-determination was classified according to Deci and Ryan's(1985a) self-determination theory by the subdivision of control motive type as non-regulation, external regulation, introjected regulation, identified regulation, integrated regulation, intrinsic regulation. Deci(2002) measured self-determination motivation perceived by college students using the autonomy index calculation method (RAI). Second, personal - major fit applies the concept of personal-job fit relevance to college life, which individuals view as university students and careers as majors (Jeon So-hyun, Kim Seo-hyun, Ko Young-shin, Chung Soo-hee, 2015). Third, the adaptation to college used the college life adaptation scale of Baker and Siryk (1984) and sub-parameters of college life adaptation were divided into academic adaptation, social adaptation, personal-emotional adaptation, and college environment adaptation. Based on this, multiple regression analysis was used to determine whether self - determination and personal - major fit perceived by university students predicted adaptation to college life. According to the admission type and major of the department, self - determination, personal - major fit, the adaptation to college sample t test, one - way ANOVA and Scheffe 's post - test were used to identify group differences in adaptation. The specific research problems of this study are as follows. Research Question 1. Does the self-determination and personal - major fit affect the adaptation to college(academic adaptation, social adaptation, personal-emotional adaptation, and college environmental adaptation)? Research Question 2. Is there a significant difference between the self-determination and personal - major fit relevance (academic adaptation, social adaptation, personal-emotional adaptation, and college environmental adaptation) that adaptation to college according to the admission type(occasional admission-school activity, occasional admisson-admissions officer system, regular admission-KSAT)? Research Question 3. Is there a significant difference between self-determination and individual-professional relevance (academic adaptation, social adaptation, personal-emotional adaptation, and college environmental adaptation) that adaptation to college according to major of the department(the department of humanities and social studies, the department of science and engineering ? In this study, a total of 200 questionnaires were distributed through 4 weeks of university students in the metropolitan area. The questionnaire of this study consisted of self-determination, personal-major fitness, and measurement tools to measure adaptation to college. The relationship between variables was statistically processed using IBM SPSS Statistics 22, and the research hypothesis The results are as follows. First, self - determination and personal-major fit perceived by college students significantly predicted college life adjustment. Self-determination (β = .428, p 〈.001) and personal - major fit (β = .379, p 〈.001). These results show that the importance of internal motivation for the behavior of college students can be confirmed, and this can be seen as a positive power for university life. In addition, it was once again confirmed that personal - major fits are important factors in the environment of other college life, as well as the importance of personal - job fit. Specifically, self-determination and individual-major fit were predictors for the sub-variables of adaptation to college. Self - determination (β = .430, p 〈.001) and personal - major fit (β = .374, p 〈.001) were predicted in the order of self - determination. 337, p 〈.001), and personal - major fit (β = .311, p 〈.001). On the other hand, self-determinism (β = .308, p 〈.001) was significantly predicted for individual-emotional adaptation but not for personal-major fit (β = .140, p 〉 .05) Predictions were made in order of personal -major fit (β = .433, p 〈.001) and self-determinism (β = .362, p 〈.001). Second, there was no significant difference between self - determinants, personal-major fit, and college adjustment. The results showed that self - determinism (f = 2.01, p = .14), personal - major fit(f = .03, p = .97) and adaptation to college (f = .10, p = .91), academic adjustment (f = .26, p = .77), social adaptation (f = .82,p = .44), personal-emotional adaptation(f = .35, p = .70), and college environmental adaptation (f = .04, p = .96), but the difference was not statistically significant (p 〉 .05). According to major of the department, self - determinism(t = -.36, p = .72), persoanl-major fit (t = .31, p = .76), and adaptation to college (t = .10, p = .92) ), academic adaptation (t = -.39, p = .70), social adjustment (t = 1.46, p = .10), college environmental adaptation(t = -.17, p = .87) were not statistically significant (p 〉 .05). This shows that self - determination, personal - major fit, and adaptation to college life were similar regardless of entrance screening and major field. These results show that self-determination and persoanl-major fit have a positive effect on adaptation to adaption to college, but have a significant effect regardless of admission and major. The results of the study (Lee Kwang-hyun, Kwon Yong-jae, 2014) and the academic achievement of the engineering department were not statistically significant , Hong Sung-hoon, 2006). The results of this study show that the self-determination and personal-major fit perceived by college students predicts adaptation to college life, and whether there is a difference between groups according to entrance admission and major field, suggests research and practical implications . First, the implications of the research aspect are self - determination, personal - major suitability, and adaptation to college life for college students. As a result, the importance of self - determination and individual - major conformity was confirmed once again in college life adaptation, and self - determination, individual - major fit, and adaptation to college life were not different between groups I was able to. The results of this study are as follows. First, it is necessary to study the characteristics of the university students, not the college students who are selected according to the admission and major of the program. Second, the implications of the practical aspect are not only the role of the university but also it is very important for the university students themselves to grasp themselves. Especially, when setting goals for adaptation to college life, it should be able to decide not on the strength of others but on oneself, and to develop the power to internalize external motivation. In addition, it is not only the development of the program at the university level, but also the proper education device that the individual student can express the intrinsic motivation should be done In addition, unlike the so-called top universities, it is believed that students who aimed only to advance to a four-year university in the metropolitan area, regardless of the admissions process and major, were characterized by the nature of the study schools. It is not a choice of admission and majors in consideration of one's own aptitude and ability in the entrance-oriented education without having the opportunity or experience to reflect on oneself, (Seo, Byung-woo, 2013). Therefore, the university should not lose the essence of the university by proving its social value and necessity. Nevertheless, the limitations of this study and suggestions for subsequent research are as follows. First, in this study, we surveyed four-year college students from the A-1, 2, 3, and 4 in the Seoul metropolitan area, but this university has a four-year system in 2017, . In addition, since the sample was not collected by grade and it was measured through self-report questionnaire, follow-up studies were conducted to measure college students according to their grade or major, to conduct comparative studies among the groups and to conduct in-depth interviews There is a need to analyze the study through. Second, in this study, we conducted a cross-sectional study on college students, and it is necessary to conduct longitudinal studies that can be followed up from grade 1 to grade 4. Third, in this study, admission to admission is divided into occasional admission-school activity, occasional admisson-admissions officer system, regular admission-KSAT Therefore, it is necessary to analyze the data of college students belonging to various sub-categories in further study because they did not include other detailed sub-types (for example, specimens for farming and fishing villages, etc.). Fourth, in this study, the variables that influenced college life adaptation were verified. In the follow-up study, however, analysis of the variables other than self-determination, individual-major fit, And it is necessary to expand the study on the interaction relation of dependent variables. Based on the results of this study, we can overcome limitations of this study and hope that it will be helpful for adaptation to college life if more wide and diverse studies are done in the future.;현재 우리나라 고등학교 졸업생 절반 이상(69.7%)이 대학생활을 경험하고 있고(통계청, 2018), 대학생활의 적응, 부적응 문제는 대학 안에서 만의 문제가 아니라 나아가 사회생활의 적응, 부적응 문제에도 영향을 줄 수 있다.
