Abstract
The purpose of this study is to establish badminton club members’ exercise flow and resilience differences according to level of participation. Such research findings will serve to be helpful basic data in sustaining and improving physical and mental health of participants through badminton club activities and positive livelihoods. 420 subjects aged above 20 from 14 badminton clubs located in Gyeonggi province region was gathered through convenience sampling method. Unreliable responses and incomplete answers were excluded and 384 participants’ response were utilized for final analysis. SPSS Win Ver 18.0 was used for the statistical analysis performing exploratory factor analysis, reliability analysis, Frequency analysis, t-test, One-way ANOVA, Scheffe test, correlation analysis, and multiple regression analysis. The findings are as following: First, analyzing exercise flow difference depending on demographic factors of badminton club members showed no significant difference of cognitive commitment and behavioral commitment between genders but men had higher average than women. On age, there were no significant differences on cognitive commitment. However, there was a significant difference between 20s and 40s on behavioral commitment. Second, analyzing resilience difference depending on demographic factors of badminton club members showed no significant difference of positivity, self-control, and interpersonal relation ability, which are sub factors of resilience, between gender or age. It was noted however that generally self-control ability tended to increase with age. Third, analysis of exercise flow difference depending on level of participation for badminton club members showed groups with more than 5 years of club activity (5-7 years, more than 7 years) had higher cognitive commitment compared to the group with less than 1 year of experience, and groups with more than 1 year of activity (1-3 years, 3-5 years, more than 7 years) had higher behavioral commitment than the group with less than 1 year of participation. In terms of participation frequency, groups with frequency of more than 3 times per week (3 times, 4-5 times per week) showed higher cognitive commitment compared to the group with frequency of 1-2 times per week, and groups with 1-2 times per week, 3 times per week, and 4-5 times per week showed higher behavioral commitment and exercise flow in respective order. In terms of participating time, the group with more than 2 hours of participation (2-3hours, more than 3 hours) showed higher cognitive commitment, behavioral commitment and exercise flow than the group with less than 2 hours of participation time. Fourth, analysis of resilience difference depending on level of participation for badminton club members showed no significant difference on interpersonal skills depending on the duration period of participation, but for positivity and self-control ability, the group with more than 7 years of experience showed higher average value than the group with less than 1 year of participation experience. In regards to participation frequency and participation time, the longer and more frequent the level of participation, the higher level of positivity, self-control ability, interpersonal relation ability, and resilience. However, only self-control ability depending on participation frequency showed significant difference. Fifth, analysis of relationship between exercise flow and resilience showed positive correlations between sub factors of exercise flow; cognitive commitment and behavioral commitment with resilience and sub factors of resilience; self-control ability, positivity, interpersonal relation ability. In conclusion, higher participation level of badminton club members showed higher exercise flow and resilience level, and exercise flow shows positive impact on resilience.
