아버지의 자녀양육참여 및 사회적 지지가 어머니의 양육스트레스에 미치는 영향

Abstract

This study focuses on how the social-demographical variables, father s participation in child care, and social support are related to mother s parenting stress. The subjects of this study are 220 mothers whose children are 3 to 6 years old, in Seoul. The instruments used for this study were the Parenting Stress Scale(Abidin, 1990;Shin, 1997;Kim, 1999), the Father s Participation in Child Care Scale(Kang, 1998;Hong, 1995), and Social Support Scale(Hwang, 1997). The data was analyzed by frequency, percentile, t-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson s correlation, and multiple regression through the SAS program. The main results of this study are as follows: 1. Mother s parenting stress was less than moderate level. There were not significant differences in mother s patenting stress based on the social-demographical variables(child s sex, child s age, level of mother s education, mother s job, and income of the household, etc.). 2. Father s participation in child care was found to be high. Father s participation in child care was negatively related to mother s parenting stress of parent-child relationship. But it doesn t bear any a significant relation to parenting stress of child s disposition. 3. Mother s perception of social support was found to be high. Social support was negatively related to parenting stress of parent-child relationship and child s disposition. 4. The influential independent variables on mother s parenting stress are listed in order of significant level : Social support, father s participation in child care, and child s age. These all three variables influenced on the mother s parenting stress negatively. This study revealed that the father s participation in child care and social support lower the mother s parenting stress. That is to say, the father s participation in child care and social support play very important role on the reduction of mother s parenting stress.; 본 연구는 사회인구학적 변인, 아버지의 자녀양육참여 및 사회적 지지가 어머니의 양육스트레스와 어떠한 관계에 있는가를 조사하였다. 연구대상은 서울 지역에 위치한 유아교육기관에 다니는 3~6세의 자녀를 둔 총 220명의 어머니들이다. 본 연구는 질문지법을 이용하였으며, 조사도구는 어머니의 양육스트레스척도(Abidin, 1990;신숙재, 1997;김명회, 1999), 아버지의 자녀양육참여척도(강희경, 1998;홍성례, 1995), 그리고 사회적 지지 척도(황영주, 1997)를 사용하였다. 본 연구에서 수집된 모든 자료는 SAS 프로그램을 이용하여 분석되었다. 본 연구의 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 어머니의 양육스트레스를 구성하고 있는 자녀와의 관계에 의한 스트레스와 자녀의 기질에 관련된 스트레스는 자녀의 성별, 자녀의 연령, 어머니의 교육수준, 어머니의 취업여부, 그리고 가정의 경제적 수입 등의 사회인구학적 변인에 따라 유의한 차이가 없는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 아버지의 자녀양육참여는 어머니의 자녀와의 관계에 의한 스트레스와 부적인 상관이 있는 것으로 나타나, 아버지의 자녀양육참여가 높을수록 자녀와의 관계에 의한 스트레스는 낮아지는 것으로 나타났다. 그러나 아버지의 자녀양육참여는 자녀의 기질에 관련된 어머니의 양육스트레스와 유의한 수준의 상관관계가 나타나지 않았다. 셋째, 사회적 지지는 자녀와의 관계에 의한 스트레스 및 자녀의 기질에 관련된 스트레스와 부적인 상관이 있는 것으로 나타나, 사회적 지지가 높을수록 자녀와의 관계에 의한 스트레스 및 자녀의 기질에 관련된 스트레스는 낮아지는 것으로 나타났다. 넷째, 사회인구학적 변인들과 아버지의 자녀양육참여, 그리고 사회적 지지가 어머니의 양육스트레스에 미치는 상대적인 영향력을 살펴본 결과, 어머니의 양육스트레스에 가장 큰 영향을 미치는 변인은 사회적 지지로 나타났고, 그 다음으로는 아버지의 자녀양육참여, 자녀의 연령 순이었으며, 이들 세 변인 모두 어머니의 양육스트레스에 부적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구는 아버지의 자녀양육참여와 사회적 지지 변인이 어머니의 양육스트레스 수준을 낮추는데 긍정적인 영향을 미침을 밝혀냈다는 데 의의가 있다. 이러한 연구결과는 아버지의 자녀양육참여와 사회적 지지가 어머니의 양육스트레스 감소에 매우 중요한 요인임을 제시한다.
