한국과 태국의 사회문화 비교 연구

Abstract

본 연구의 목적은 한국문화와 태국문화는 어떠한 특수성을 지니고 있는지, 그 사고방식이나 행동양식과 같은 양국의 사회문화적인 특성을 비교 연구하는 데 있다. 한국과 태국은 오랫동안 계속해서 우호적인 관계를 유지해왔다. 두 나라의 친밀하고 돈독한 관계는 앞으로도 계속 지속될 것으로 보인다. 그러기 위해서는 무엇보다도 서로의 문화를 이해하는 것이 필요하다. 그러나 한국인과 태국인, 양국 사람들은 문화적 차이로 인해 서로를 이해하는 데에 어려움을 겪고 있는 것이 현실이다. 따라서 본 연구는 양국의 문화를 이해하는 데 관심이 있는 사람들에게 매우 중요한 정보가 될 수 있을 것이다. 이에 본 연구에서는 권력거리, 개인주의-집단주의, 남성성-여성성, 불확실성 회피 성향이라는 Hofstede가 제시한 4가지 비교 문화적 차원에 준거하여 한국과 태국의 사회문화를 비교하고자 한다. 본 연구에서 Hofstede의 문화 이론에 준거하고자 하는 이유는 그의 이론이 한 나라의 문화나 그 나라의 가치, 사고방식 혹은 행동양식 등과 같은 무형적인 문화가 어떻게 형성되어 있는지를 잘 보여주기 때문이다. Ⅰ장(서론)에서는 본 연구의 목적 및 필요성을 밝혔고, 본 연구를 위한 연구 범위 및 방법을 설명하였다. 그리고 본 연구와 관련이 있는 기존의 연구들을 살펴보았다. 관련된 선행 연구들은 한국과 태국에 관한 연구 및 Hofstede의 이론을 준거하는 문화 비교에 대한 연구로 나누어 살펴보았다. Ⅱ장(이론적 배경)에서는 본 연구와 관련된 ‘문화’의 개념적인 정의와 본 연구에서 준거하고자 하는 Hofstede의 이론을 소개하고 그의 이론이 갖고 있는 중요성을 밝힘으로써 이 이론을 본 연구에서 적용하려는 이유를 밝혔다. Ⅲ장(한국과 태국의 사회문화 비교)에서는, 본 연구의 본론으로서, Hofstede가 제시한 권력거리, 개인주의-집단주의, 남성성-여성성, 불확실성 회피 성향을 토대로 한국과 태국 양국의 사회문화적 특성을 구체적으로 비교 분석했다. 특히 한국과 태국의 사회문화는 어떤 점이 유사하고 어떤 점에서 차이가 나타나는지, 그리고 그러한 성향을 발생시키는 요인이 무엇인지를 설명하였다. 본 연구를 통해 Hofstede가 제시한 권력거리, 개인주의-집단주의, 남성성-여성성 측면에서는 양국은 비슷한 성향을 보이고 있다는 사실이 드러났다. 반면에 불확실성 회피 성향 측면에서는 한국과 태국 양국 사이에 큰 차이가 있었다. 본 연구는 Hofstede의 문화 이론을 준거로 하여 한국과 태국의 사회문화에 대한 심도 있는 연구의 초석을 마련했다는 점에서 의의를 갖는다. 앞으로 본 연구가 한국과 태국의 사회문화적인 이해를 높이는 데 활용되고 나아가 양국민이 서로의 문화에 적응하는 데 도움이 될 수 있기를 기대한다.

;The purpose of this study is to compare characteristics of social culture between Korean and Thailand, specifically in the way of thinking and behaviour pattern. Korea and Thailand has established close relationship for over the years and have planned to maintain the relationship for many years to come. Thus, understanding both culture is important. Yet there were times when both Korean and Thailand were experiencing difficulties in understanding each other. This study will provide important information to those who are interested in understanding both cultures. Based on that, this study mainly focused on Hofstede's 4 types of comparative cultural dimensions such as power distance, individualism -collectivism, masculinity-femininity, and uncertainty avoidance. Hofstede's culture theory was applied to this study because the theory closely represents the form of Non-material culture, such as value system, way of thinking, behaviour pattern and so on. Chapter I, describes the objective and goal of this studies, along with research scope and method. Related studies are also discussed, which particularly divided into general studies of Korean and Thailand, and general studies of culture using the Hofstede's theory. Chapter II, presents the concept of 'culture' and introduce the Hofstede's theory, which applied to this study. Besides, the reason of applying the Hofstede's theory in this study was also stated by conveying the importance of the theory. Chapter III, analyses social culture of Korea and Thailand from the Hofstede's dimensions of power distance, individualism-collectivism, masculinity-femininity, and uncertainty avoidance. The theory shows specifically the similarities and differences of both cultures and cultural background. As the first research that apply Hofstede's culture theory to compare the culture of Korea and Thailand, this paper would be a starter for a larger research in the near future. This paper could also help both Korean and Thailand compromise each other's social cultural differences and overcome problems that might arise.
