Abstract
This study was carried out to see changes in body composition of rats during the starvation fed a standard diet or a high fat diet previously. After 4 days of adaptation with the standard diet, 112 weanling, Sprague-Dawley rats (56 male and female) were divided into two groups and each group was given the standard diet and the high fat diet respectively for ten weeks. And then each group was blocked into 7 groups. The 2 groups were killed at 0 day and 3 groups were killed at 1, 3 and 5 days respectively and 2 groups starved dead. One group out of two groups that were killed at 0 day, 3 groups that were killed at 1, 3 and 5 days of starvation and 1 starved dead group were used to measure the changes in the body weights, various organ weights, and the contents of water, protein, lipid in liver, skeletal muscles and serum. Remaining two groups of animals killed at 0 day and. starved dead were used. to measure the changes in the total carcass composition, i.e. the contents of the water, Protein, lipid and ash. The body weights decreased in accordance with the duration of starvation and those of the starved dead. animals decreased over 40%. The weights of liver and spleen of the starved dead animals reduced over 46%. The weights of adrenals showed no notable changes throughout the starvation period. In sex organ, the weight reductions of female rats were twice greater than those of male rats. In kidney, heart and intestine, these were no significant changes until 5 days of starvation but the reduction was very large in the starved dead animals. Fat pad weight reduced by 29-33% until 5 days of starvation, and there was not any left in the starved dead animals. In the all skeletal muscle, only slight reduction in the weight was observed until 5 days of starvation. The water contents of liver were decreased in the early starvation period and in muscles no great change were found. But when the rats died of starvation, the water contents of these two tissues were apt to increase. Total protein contents were decreased progressively in accordance with the duration of starvation, but its percentage contents remained constant. But the total carcass analysis showed a tendency of increase in the protein % content of the starved dead animals. In liver and muscle, the lipid contents showed a tendency of increase in the early starvation period, but the reduction was very large in the starved dead animals. The comparisons of the standard diet group with the high fat diet group were as follows. In female, the body weight of the high fat diet group was havier than the standard group at 0, and 1 day of starvation. The lipid contents of the female high fat, group at 0, 1, 3, 5 days of starvation were higher than the standard group. In total carcass analysis the lipid cont tents of the female high fat group were higher than the standard group at 0 day of starvation. Bat in starved dead animals lipid contents of standard female group were higher than high fat female group. Except above differences, there were no significant differences between these two dietary groups. The survival days following starvation were not different significantly between these two dietary groups, but there was a sexual difference as male had a longer survival day than female. ;표준식이 및 고지방식이를 먹인 흰쥐를 굶겼을때 일어나는 체구성 성분의 변화를 살펴 보기 위하여 본 연구가 시도되었다. 생후 20일된 흰쥐 암수 각각 56마리를 4일간 표준식이로 적응시켜 두 군으로 나누어 표준식이와 고지방식이로 10주간 사육한후 각 식이군을 다시 일곱군으로 나누어 다섯군은 단식 시작후 0일, 1일, 3일, 5일이 되었을 때와 완전히 굶어 죽었을때 체중과 여러 조직의 무게 및 간, 골격근육, serum내의 수분, 단백질, 지방의 함량변화를 측정하였다. 나머지 두군은 단식 0일과 굶어죽었을 때의 전체 체구성 성분 즉 수분, 단백질, 지방, 회분함량을 측정하였다. 그 결과는 다음과 같았다. 몸무게는 단식 기간이 길어짐에 따라 감소하였으며, 굶어 죽었을 때의 체중 감소율응ㄴ 40%이상이었다. 장기 무게의 변화는 간과 비장의 무게가 굶어 죽었을 때 46%이상의 감소율로 가장 심했으며, 부신은 대체로 단식 기간중 변화가 없었고, 생식기는 ♀이 ♂의 2배정도로 큰 감소율을 보였다. 신장, 심장, 작은창자는 단식 5일까지 별로 변화가 없다가 굶어 죽었을 때만 현저한 감소를 보였다. Fat Pad는 단식 5일까지 29~33%의 감소를 보였으며, 굶어 죽었을 때엔 완전히 볼 수 없었다. 근육 무게는 단식 5일까지 약간의 감소만 있을 뿐 거의 일정한 무게를 유지하였다. 체구성 성분을 보면 수분함량은 간에서는 단식 초기에 점차 감소하였으며 근육에서는 별 변화가 없었으나, 굶어 죽었을 때는 간, 근육과 아울러 전체 체구성 성분에서의 수분함량이 증가경향을 보였다. 간과 근육에서 단백질 총량은 단식 기간이 길어짐에 따라 감소했으나 그 함유 %는 거의 일정하게 유지되었으며, 전체 체구성 성분에서는 굶어 죽었을 때 오히려 증가경향을 보여 주었다. 간과 근육에서 지방함량은 단식초기에 증가경향이 있다가 굶어 죽었을 땐 현저해 감소하였고 또한 저장지방이 없었다. 이상의 모든 결과에서 표준군과 고지방군의 차이를 보면 ♀의 경우에 단식전 및 단식초기의 몸무게가 고지방군이 더 무거웠고, 지방함량이 단식전에 간, 근육, 전체 체구성 성분에서 고지방군이 더 많았으나 굶어 죽었을 때는 표준군이 더 많았다. 위의 사실을 제외하고는 모든 부문에서 표준군과 고지방군간에 차이가 없었으나 두 식이군 모두 ♀♂의 차이가 있어 ♂가 ♀보다 오래 살았다.
