Abstract
The interaction between methyl viologen (MV^(2+)) and sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) was investigated by the polarographic and conductometric measurements. MV^(2+) showed two reversible one electron reduction wave with the half wave potential at -0.7V vs SCE and -1.04 V vs SCE. The addition of SDS caused the decrease in the diffusion current (id) and the shift in the reversible half wave potential (E_(1/2)), but the [SDS] dependence of id's and E_(1/2) of the two steps were different. Neither the precipitate formation of MV^(2+)-SDS nor The increase in bulk viscosity attributed to the large decrease in id's of MV^(2+) with SDS. The conductometric titration of MV^(2+) with SDS showed little association of MV^(2+) with SDS below 10^(-3) M SDS, and strong association above the concentration. The cmc of SDS moved higher by two times of [MV^(2+)] in the presence of MV^(2+). These results were discussed in terms of the interaction between MV^(+). and SDS at low [SDS], and cooperative cluster formation between MV^(2+) and SDS, and the incorporation of MV^(+). in MV^(2+)-SDS cluster at high SDS concentration. The effects of Triton X-100 and CTAB on polaro-graphic behaviors of MV^(2+) were also investigated and compared with those of SDS.;methyl viologen(MV^(2+))과 음이온성 계면활성제인 sodium dodecylsulfate(SDS)간의 상호작용을 polarography 및 conductometry 실험을 통하여 고찰하였다. methyl viologen은 두 단계의 가역적인 1 -전자전달과정을 거쳐 환원되며 각 환원단계의 표준환원전위는 각각 -0.7 volts vs SCE이다.
