대조분석을 통한 영어 발음지도

Abstract

The principal barrier to second language acquistition is the insterference of the first language system with the second language system. We can predict and describe the patterns that will cause difficulty in learning, and those that will not cause difficulty, by comparing systematically the language and culture to be learned with the native language and culture of the student. Contrastive analysis is a method of looking at linguistic similarities and differences of two languages and predicting the difficulties a learner would encounter. This thesis has presented a contrastive analysis of Korean and English sound systems - both segmental and suprasegmental phonemes-analyzing the Korean students' pronunciation of English and provided basic measures for the improvement of pronunciation in learning English. On the basis of this study, English teachers should try to prevent the phonemic substitution of Korean for that of English and have a sufficient knowledge of what kinds of interference will be supposed to occur in learning English.;각각의 언어는 음, 구조, 의미 등에 있어서 서로 다르다. 따라서 이미 습득된 모국어는 외국어를 배울 때 영향을 미치게 되며 비슷한 구조는 쉽게 다른 구조는 어렵게 습득된다. 한국학생들은 중학생이 되어서야 영어를 배우게 되며 모국어인 한국어 습관을 영어에 전이시켜 영어 발음에 오류음을 내게 된다. 그런데 서로 다른 두 언어를 체계적이고 과학적으로 비교·분석하면 난점을 예측할 수 있고 그렇게 예측된 음은 집중적으로 훈련되어 차이점이 극복될 수 있다는 것이 대조분석 이론의 주장이다. 본 고는 한국어와 영어를 음운의 범위에서 대조분석하였으며 양 언어의 차이에서 오는 난점을 예측하고 그 지도방법을 모색하였다. 그리고 실제 발음조사를 통해 오류음을 분석하여 대부분의 오류음은 예측된 바와 같음을 발견하였다. 학생들의 오류음은 양 언어의 자·모음 체계의 차이에서 생기는 오류, 영어음소의 다양한 변이음을 구사하지 못하는 데서 생기는 오류, 한국어의 음운변화를 영어에 적용시킴으로써 생기는 오류, 음절구조의 차이에서 생기는 오류, 강세박자언어인 영어의 리듬과 음조를 한국어의 습관으로 단조롭게 말하는 오류 등으로 나뉘어 진다. 이러한 문제점을 극복하기 위해서 영어교사는 모국어와 목표어의 차이점과 공통점을 알고 있어야 하며 오류음이 발견될 때 그 원인을 진단하고 교정해 주어야 한다.
