중학교 과학수업에 적용한 협동학습의 효과

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to examine effects of cooperative learning approach on the academic achievement and attitude compared to a traditional one, taking cooperative learning classes about chapter 「VIII. Digestion and Circulation」of 1st grade middle school. Objects of the study were consisted of 4 classes among 1st grade students in a middle school located in Koyang city. Experimental cooperative learning was conducted in 2 of them and traditional one focusing on teacher s instruction in another 2 of them. Experimental classes were administered 12 times for a period of 4 weeks. We tested students achievement and attitude in science learning to find changes of them pre and post of classes with the same question paper. To know any significant difference in their learning achievement and attitude of science according to a instruction learning ability and sex, we performed an analysis of covariance(ANCOVA). And we asked only experimental classes of their opinion about cooperative learning. A significant level α= .05 was used for the about tests. We used SPSSWIN 10.0 to obtain the following analytical results. The results of this study are as follows. First, as there was statistically significant difference in academic achievement according to instruction, it could be told that cooperative learning affected more affirmative influence on the improvement of academic achievement than traditional one. While middle-level ability students showed no statistically significant difference in their achievement, high and low-level ability students showed significant difference and in terms of sex female students showed statistically significant difference. Second, as there was statistically significant difference in learning attitude, it could be told that cooperative learning affected more affirmative influence on the improvement of learning attitude than traditional one. While middle-level ability students showed no statistically significant difference, high and low-level ability students showed significant difference and in terms of sex there was no significant difference. Third, according to students responses on the cooperative learning while there were such merits as cooperative learning makes it possible to cultivate cooperative mind, communicate diversified opinions, keep good friendship participate actively into the class, understand better due to the discussion while studying , there were such demerits as it is noisy and vague, some students feel uncomfortable because their low score affects the team bad influence, cooperation is hard to achieve because of disagreement among team members .; 본 연구의 목적은 중학교 1학년의 「VIII. 소화와 순환」단원에서 협동학습을 실시하여 과학 학업 성취도와 과학 학습 태도에 대한 효과를 전통적 학습과 비교 분석하는 것이다. 연구대상으로 고양시 소재 중학교 1학년 4개반을 선택하여 2개반에는 협동학습을 실시하고, 2개반에는 교사 강의 중심의 전통적 수업을 실시하였다. 연구기간은 4주간 12차시를 실시하였고 수업 처치 전, 후의 학업 성취도와 학습 태도의 변화를 알아보기 위해 동일한 검사지를 이용하여 과학 학업 성취도와 과학에 대한 태도 검사를 실시하였다. 수업처치에 따라 과학 학업 성취도와 과학 학습 태도에서 유의미한 차이가 있는지, 학습능력과 성별에 따라 유의미한 차이가 있는지 알아보기 위해 사전 검사를 공변인으로 공변량분석(ANCOVA)을 하였다. 그리고 실험집단에만 협동학습에 대한 의견을 조사하였다. 이상의 자료 분석에 유의도 α=.05로 검정하였고 통계처리는 SPSSWIN 10.0을 사용하였다. 본 연구에서 나타난 연구 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 수업처치에 따른 학업 성취도 면에서 통계적으로 유의미한 차이가 나타났으므로 협동학습이 전통적 학습보다 학업 성취도 향상에 긍정적인 영향을 미친다고 할 수 있다. 또한 학습능력이 중위인 경우 학업 성취도 면에서 유의미한 차이가 없었던 것에 비해 상위, 하위의 학생들에게는 유의미한 차이가 있었고 성별에 따른 학업 성취도에서는 여학생들에게 유의미한 차이가 나타났다. 둘째, 수업처치에 따른 학습 태도 면에서 통계적으로 유의미한 차이가 나타났으므로 협동학습이 전통적 학습보다 과학 학습 태도 향상에 긍정적인 영향을 미친다고 할 수 있다. 또한 학습능력이 중위인 경우 과학 학습 태도 면에서 유의미한 차이가 없었던 것에 비해 상위, 하위의 학생들에게는 유의미한 차이가 있었으나 성별에 따른 과학 학습 태도 면에서는 유의미한 차이가 없었다. 셋째, 협동학습에 대한 학생들의 의견에서는 전통적 학습에 비해 협동심을 길러주며, 다양한 의견을 교환할 수 있고, 교우 관계가 좋아지며, 수업에 적극적으로 참여할 수 있으며, 토의하면서 공부하므로 이해가 잘 된다 등의 좋은 점이 있었으나 소란하고 분위기가 산만하다, 팀 점수에 영향을 끼쳐 부담스럽다, 팀원간에 불화로 협동이 잘 안될 때가 있다 등의 단점이 있었다. 결론적으로 협동 학습은 과학 학업 성취도와 과학적 학습 태도 면에서 전통적 학습에 비해 매우 긍정적이며 효과적이며 특히 상위, 하위 수준의 학습자들에게 더 긍정적인 영향을 미친다고 할 수 있다.
