August Bournonville 무용 테크닉의 특성 및 교수방법에 관한 연구

Abstract

덴마크 왕립발레단은 19세기초부터 전해 내려오는 스타일과 기교, 그리고 레퍼토리를 유지하고 있는 세계 유일의 전통적인 발레단이며 이는 오거스트 부르농빌(August Bournonville)이 덴마크 왕립발레단의 감독이 된 해로부터 거슬러 올라갈 수 있다. 무용수로써 그는 여성무용수 못지 않은 가벼움을 가지고 나는 듯한 Elevation의 극치를 이룸과 동시에 힘과 활력을 겸비한 남성적 테크닉까지 가지고 있어 「몽유병 환자」(La Somnambule)와 「라 실피드」(La Sylphide)등을 통해 유럽전역에서 극찬을 받은바 있으며 인간적인 요소를 찬양, 휴머니즘을 지향했던 그는 안무가로써 50여 편의 다양한 작품과 오늘날 세계발레단들이 레퍼토리로 채택하고 있는 「라 실피드」, 「나폴리」(Napoli),「겐자노의 꽃 축제」(The Flower Festival in Genzano)등을 통해 그 능력을 인정받고 있다. 또한 지도자로써 독특한 교수법을 통해 안나 파블로바(Anna Pavlova), 미셸 포킨(Michel Fokine), 바슬라브 니진스키(Vaslav Nijinsky) 등 세계적인 무용수를 배출하였으며 이러한 교수법은 덴마크 왕립발레단이 세계적인 명성을 누리게 되는 발판이 되었기에 부르농빌 발레를 곧 덴마크 발레라 할 수 있다. 이로 보아 덴마크 발레에서 가장 귀중한 유물은 지금까지 잘 보존된 그의수십 가지의 레퍼토리와 디베르티스망, 그리고 부르농빌의 독특한 교수법이라 할 수 있는데 이에 본 연구는 부르농빌의 테크닉과 교수법을 살펴봄으로써 우리나라 발레교육의 발전에 필요한 이론적 기초를 제시하는데 그 목적이 있으며 이를 위한 연구 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 부르농빌 발레의 특징은 빠르고 섬세한 도약이며 그가 특별히 중시했던 테크닉은 Ballon, Port de Bras, Rond de Jambe를 들 수 있다. 둘째, 그의 수업과정은 일주일을 기준으로 6일 동안 3가지의 Barre와 6가지의 Center로 구성되어지며 수업내용은 각 요일마다 항상 같은 방법으로 이루어진다. 셋째, 그의 테크닉과 교수법의 필수사항은 학생에게 그 역사적 배경을 알려주고, 부르농빌의 용어를 사용하며, 각 요일마다 이루어지는 수업의 순서를 꼭 지켜야 한다는 것이다. 이상과 같이 연구된 부르농빌의 테크닉과 교수법은 각 유형마다 독특한 특성을 가진 이탈리아의 체케티(Cecchetti), 러시아의 바가노바(Vaganova), 미국의 발란신(Balanchine), 영국의 R.A.D (Royal Ballet of the Dancing)메소드와 필적할 만한 국제적인 명성을 지니고 있어 중요한 발레 메소드의 한 유형으로써 그 몫을 담당하고 하고 있다. 그러므로 부르농빌 발레 교수법에 관한 연구는 발레지도를 위한 근거가 될 것이며 무용수의 기량 향상 및 발전에 이바지 할 것이다. 더 나아가 후속 연구로써 우리나라 수업현장에서 그의 테크닉과 교수법을 통한 교육적 가치 및 효과에 대해 검증·평가해 보는게 필요하다고 본다.; Denmark Royal Ballet Company is unique in the world in that they have maintained the styles, techniques and repertoires inherited from the early 19th century. Such a tradition may well be traced back to the year when August Bournonville began to direct the ballet company. As male ballerina, he demonstrated the elevation as much light and flying as female ballerinas, while combining power and vigor to show manly techniques. His performances of 「La Somnamnam」 and 「La sylphide」were applauded highly throughout Europe. Moreover, the choreographer who praised the human elements and pursued humanism performed some 50 works; his 「La sylphide」, 「Napoli」 and 「Flower Festival in Genzano」 are still adopted by world-famous ballet companies today. Furthermore, as leader of ballet world, he used a unique pedagogics to educate such world-famous dancers as Anna Pavlova, Michel Fokine and Vaslav Nijinsky. Since such a pedagogics provided for a stepping stone for the Denmark Royal Ballet Company to enjoy a world-wide reputation, Bournonville s ballet may well represent Denmark ballet. The most precious assets for Denmark ballet may consist of the well-preserved tens of ballet repertoires, divertissements and Bournonville s unique pedagogics. With such basic conceptions in mind, this study is aimed at reviewing Bournonville s techniques and pedagogics in order to get some insights for development of our ballet education. The results of this study can be summarized as follows; First, Bournonville s ballet may be characterized by rapid and delicate movements, and his major techniques were Ballon, Port de Bras, Rond de Jambe, etc. Second, his ballet curriculum consisted of three types of barres and six types of centers. His class was operated for six days per week, and the curriculum was weekly. Third, he bothered to teach his students about the historical background of techniques and used his own terms. In particular, his weekly pedagogic sequence was kept without fail. As discussed above, Bournonville s techniques and ballet pedagogics have been recognized world-wide, His techniques and ballet pedagogics may be compared to Italy s Cecchetti, Russia s Vaganova, America s Balanchine, British R.A.D. method, etc. In short, his method has played a key role among various ballet methods. It is conceived that this study on Bournonville s ballet pedagogics will provide for some useful data to help improve our ballerinas techniques as well as effectively teach our student ballerinas. Lastly, it is hoped that Bournonville s techniques and pedagogics will be tested by future studies on our educational scene and thereby, assessed according to our conditions.
