특정 항목을 대상으로 한 집중 피드백이 한국어 학습자의 문법적 정확성에 미치는 영향

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to prove the relation between the influence of focused feedback and unfocused feedback and the grammar accuracy. The teacher's efforts for correcting the grammatical errors of student's writing came out as various attempts of feedback methods. However, the researches related on focused feedback are not existed in Korean education yet. In the case of foreign studies, there are several studies about defining the effects of feedback that are focused on article errors. This study attempts to compare the change of grammatical accuracy through the focused feedback and unfocused feedback. The subject of this research is focused on how the two feedbacks will influence the usage of accurate Korean proposition and the grammatical accuracy, and two research hypothesis are set up. First, the accuracy of proposition usage will be higher when focused feedback is provided to a group than when unfocused feedback is provided. Second, the group which receives focused feedback will be more effective than the group which receives unfocused feedback on the reduction of grammar error rate. Experimental methods were as following. After collecting the student's writing, two groups were set. One was the experimental group which receives corrective feedback only for proposition errors, the other was the control group which receives corrective feedback for all grammatical errors. There were four writing tasks - pre test, for experimental writing test, rewriting test, and post test. To judge the effect of feedback, the proposition error rate and the entire grammar error rate from pre-test and post-test were analysed statistically. The result of the experiment told that the proposition error rate from post-test was not statistically significant, so both two groups were still in same level. And also the change of grammar error rate showed that the difference between the experimental and controlled groups were not statistically significant as well. However, the change of grammar error rate which occurs within the group appeared statistically significant, so both two feedbacks showed up to make positive effect regarding grammar accuracy. These experimental results showed that the reduce of entire grammar error could be expected through focused feedback and this study provided the basis of the effect which focused feedback gives.;본 연구에서는 학습자의 쓰기에 제공하는 교사의 피드백 종류인 특정 항목 대상 집중 피드백과 비집중 피드백이 문법의 정확성에 미치는 효과를 알아보았다. 학습자들의 작문에 나타난 문법 오류의 교정을 위한 교사들의 노력은 여러 가지 피드백 방법의 시도로 나타났는데, 본 연구에서 알아보고자 하는 특정 항목 대상 집중 피드백과 관련된 실험 연구는 현재까지 한국어 교육에서는 실시되지 않았다. 외국의 경우 학습자의 작문에 나타난 관사의 오류에만 수정 피드백을 제공하고 이러한 피드백 방법의 효과를 밝히는 실험 연구가 몇 건 존재하지만, 본 연구는 특정 항목 대상 집중 피드백과 비집중 피드백의 결과로 나타나는 문법적 정확성의 변화를 통해 두 피드백의 확실한 효과를 비교해 알아보고자 했다. 본 연구의 연구 문제는 이러한 두 가지 피드백이 조사 사용의 정확성과 전체 문법 정확성에 어떠한 영향을 미칠 것인지에 중점을 두었으며, 연구 가설은 두 가지로 설정하였다. 첫째, 특정 항목 대상 집중 피드백을 받은 집단이 비집중 피드백을 받은 집단보다 조사 사용의 정확성이 더 높아질 것이다. 둘째, 특정 항목 대상 집중 피드백을 받은 집단이 비집중 피드백을 받은 집단보다 전체적인 문법 오류율 감소에 더 효과를 나타낼 것이다. 실험 방법은 학습자의 작문 과제를 수집 후 특정 문법 항목인 조사의 오류에만 수정 피드백을 제공하는 실험 집단과 작문에 나타난 모든 문법 오류에 수정 피드백을 제공하는 통제 집단으로 두 개의 집단을 구성하였으며, 사전 실험과 실험 처치용 이야기 쓰기, 이야기 다시 쓰기, 사후 실험의 총 네 번의 작문 과제를 실시하였다. 사전 실험과 사후 실험에서 측정한 조사 오류율, 전체 문법 오류율을 오류 점수로 보고 각각의 오류율 변화를 통계적으로 분석하여 피드백의 효과 유무를 판단하였다. 실험 결과, 동질 집단 이었던 두 집단은 피드백 처치를 받은 이후 실시한 사후 실험에서 나타난 조사 오류율이 통계적으로 유의미한 차이를 보이지 않아 여전히 동질 집단 인 것으로 나타났다. 전체 문법 오류율의 변화를 분석한 결과 역시 실험 집단과 통제 집단 간의 차이는 통계적으로 유의미하지 않았다. 하지만 각 집단 내에서 발생한 문법 오류율 변화, 즉 사전 실험과 사후 실험에서 보인 문법 오류율 변화는 통계적으로 유의미 한 것으로 나타나 두 가지 피드백 방법 모두 문법의 정확성 향상에 긍정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 밝혀졌다. 이와 같은 실험 결과를 통해 특정 문법 항목에만 초점을 맞춰 피드백을 제공하는 방법을 통해서도 전체 문법 오류율 감소 효과를 기대할 수 있다는 결론을 얻었으며, 앞으로 특정 항목 대상 집중 피드백의 연구가 계속 되어야 하는 근거를 제공했다는 데서 본 연구의 의의를 찾을 수 있다.
