한국어 초분절음 교육을 위한 자기 수정 활동의 개발과 효과

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to verify the effectiveness of the “Self-correction practice” (SCP) designed for suprasegmental education in Korean language. Preceding researches on suprasegmental in Korean education focused mainly on results and suggestions for correction, and practical training methods can hardly be found. This thesis aims to fill this gap through an experimental study using the SCP. The findings of this thesis are based on the comparison of the pretest and posttest results of the SCP designed for this research. A survey is also conducted to collect opinions from participants. The samples for this research are students taking elementary Korean language courses at local university-affiliated institute. They are divided into Experimental group (13) and Control group (13). The SCP consists of two main parts: Perception task and Controlled production task. Perception task includes three activities: 1) indication without aids; 2) indication after listening to audio by native Korean speaker and then compare with the result of 1) (Self-correction 1 (SC1)); 3) feedback from instructor and then compare with 2) (SC2). For the Controlled production task, students were required to record the dialogues and articles given based on the feedback from the instructor, compare it to the audio by native Korean speaker and then submit it to the instructor. Results showed that the perception of appropriate final intonation and pause position in a dialogue and the appropriate stress in a dialogue/article of the students has significantly improved, and thus led to the improvement in production ability in various areas. Remarkable progress can be seen on the learner’s level of perceived comprehensibility which rose from sentence-level to overall-meaning-level. Extensive practice of Korean suprasegmental has long been sacrificed due to realistic limitations in language classrooms. The most important point of this research is that it provides a practice and concrete reference for that, and which was successfully applied to a real language education situation. Since different aspects of suprasegmental, such as: intonation, stress, pause, boundary, focus, etc, are in fact very closely related, further research could be done on how to teach these aspects as an integrated topic instead of individual skills.;본 연구는 한국어 초분절음 교육과 관련된 선행 연구들에서 실질적인 교수 효과를 검증하는 연구가 이루어지지 않았다는 점에 착안하여, 실제 교육 현장에 적용 가능한 도구를 개발한 후, 실험을 통해 그 효과를 검증하는 것을 목표로 하였다. 이를 위해 초분절음 교육에 많은 시간을 할애할 수 없는 현실을 고려하여, 학습자 스스로 오류를 수정하도록 하는 자기 수정 활동을 개발하였으며, 활동 전후의 시험 점수를 비교하여 그 효과를 살폈다. 또한, 설문 조사를 통해 학습자들의 의견을 수렴하였다. 연구 참여자는 홍콩 소재 대학 기관의 초급 학습자로서 실험 집단 13명, 통제 집단 13명이다. 자기 수정 활동은 인지 과제와 산출 과제로 나누어지는데, 인지 과제는 1) 스스로 표시하기, 2) 한국어 화자의 발화를 듣고 표시한 후 1과 비교하기(자기 수정 1), 3) 교사 피드백과 2를 비교하기(자기 수정 2)이다. 산출 과제는 교사 피드백을 바탕으로 읽기 지문을 녹음하고 이를 한국어 화자의 발화와 비교한 후(자기 수정 3) 제출하는 것이다. 실험 결과, 학습자들은 자기 수정 활동을 통해 문미 억양, 강세구 억양, 적절한 휴지 위치에 대한 인지가 개선되었으며, 문미 억양과 강세구 억양, 휴지, 경계에 대한 산출이 개선되었다. 또한, 청자의 이해도가 문장 단위에서 내용 단위로 향상되었다. 본 연구의 의의는 그간 현실적인 제약으로 수업 시간에 비중 있게 다루지 못했던 한국어 초분절음의 교육을 위한 실제적이고 구체적인 자료를 제시하고, 이를 교육 현장에 적용하였다는 것이다. 후속 연구를 위한 제언으로는 서로 밀접한 연관이 있는 억양, 강세, 휴지, 경계, 초점 등의 초분절음을 단일 항목이 아닌 통합적, 유기적으로 교수할 것을 제안하였다.
