중·고등학교 체육교사의 교직생활 관심사와 매너리즘 연구

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to understand physical education teachers' professional lives and their difficulties in middle and high school by finding out the relations between teachers' concerns of professional lives and their mannerism of profession to lay a foundation for the improvement of their professional competency. To achieve the aim of the study, it verified the extent of physical education teachers' concerns of professional lives and the extent of teachers' mannerism of profession based on their general features and it analyzed the relations between the two. The respondents of this study were composed of the physical education teachers who are teaching in middle and hight schools located in Seoul, Kyungki and Jeonlanamdo as of 2008, and the samples of the respondents were extracted by random sampling. The number of valid samples of this study was 346 in total, but only 276 reponses were used in the final analysis, excluding reponses that were not replied or unfaithful. The questionnaire of the study were composed of 81 questions in total, questions on general features of respondents (sex, age, period of teaching career, a class of school, classification of school type), 40 questions on teachers' concerns of professional lives and 41 questions on teachers' mannerism of professional lives. Among 81 questions, 50 questions were utilized in the final analysis, 22 questions on concerns, 27 questions on mannerism and 1 question on awareness of the concept of mannerism. The responses of the study were analyzed by SPSS WIN 15.0 Version, and frequency analysis and technical statistics were done to examine the general features of the population and the relation between teachers' concerns of professional lives and the mannerism of profession. The T-test, One-way ANOVA and LSD statistic methods were utilized to analyze the extent of physical education teachers' concerns of professional lives and their mannerism of profession based on teachers' general features The analysis results and conclusions from the study are as follows; First, the study analyzing the teachers' concerns of professional lives and the mannerism of profession revealed that the teachers are most concerned on students in their professional lives and that they obtain task related mannerism most. In addition, the result verified that 83% of the teachers were aware of the concept of mannerism. Second, it was found that the teachers' concerns of professional lives based on their general features did not indicate significant meaningful differences. However, by comparing the mean value , every sectors except concerns on task showed that the extent of the teachers' concerns of professional lives is higher when the period of teaching career is shorter. In addition, the extent of concerns of student, class and task was higher for physical educations teachers in middle school and the extent of concerns of self-interest was higher for physical education teachers in high school. In terms of school classification to private and public schools, the extent of concerns of students, class and self-interest was higher for the teachers in public school and concerns of task was higher in private school. As for the teachers' mannerism of professional lives, it did not show meaningful differences significantly. However the mean value revealed that male teachers went through mannerism of profession more than female teachers and the teachers whose period of teaching career is more than 10 years felt mannerism of profession more than the teachers of less than 10 years. Furthermore, the mean values of mannerism on every concerns were higher for physical education teachers in highschool and in private school. Third, the study found that there was a correlation between teachers' concerns of professional lives and teachers' mannerism of profession, concerns on task that lacks meaningful difference was excluded in this analysis. As the result, the study verified that student mannerism was much affected by concerns of students and class, and self mannerism was much affected by concerns on class. To sum up, it verifies that middle and high school physical education teachers have the different extent of concerns of their professional lives and mannerism, and their concerns and mannerism have a meaningful inverse correlation. Based on profound understanding of the teachers' development stages on their professional lives, physical education teachers could overcome their mannerism in school and promise changes in their professional lives by the improvement of teachers ' professional competency.;본 연구의 목적은 현직 중 · 고등학교 체육교사의 교직생활 관심사와 매너리즘에 대해 알아봄으로써 체육교사들의 현장에서의 교직생활을 파악하고 어려움을 이해하여 교사들의 전문능력 개발에 필요한 기초자료를 제공하는 데 있다. 이러한 연구의 목적을 달성하기 위하여 중·고등학교 체육교사의 교직생활 관심사에 대한 관심정도와 매너리즘의 정도를 체육교사의 일반적 특성에 따라 알아보았으며, 교직생활 관심사와 매너리즘 간의 관계를 분석하였다. 본 연구의 조사대상은 2008년 현재 서울 및 경기, 전라남도에 위치하고 있는 중·고등학교에 근무하는 체육교사를 모집단으로 설정하였으며, 조사대항의 표본은 무선 표집(random sampling)으로 추출하였다. 본 연구에서 표집 된 유효 표본 수는 총 346명 이었으나, 회수되지 않은 설문지와 불성실하게 응답한 자료를 제외한 276명의 표본을 최종 분석에 사용하였다. 본 연구에서 사용한 설문지는 조사대상의 일반적 특성(성별, 연령, 교직경력, 학교 급, 설립구분)을 알아보는 문항과 교직생활 관심사 문항 40개, 교직생활 매너리즘 문항 40개, 매너리즘 인지 유무 문항 1문항으로 총 81문항으로 구성되었으나 설문지 신뢰도 분석결과 요인별 사용할 수 있는 문항은 관심사 22문항, 매너리즘 27문항, 매너리즘 인지 유무 문항 1문항인 총 50문항으로 설문구성이 축소되었다. 자료 분석을 위하여 본 연구에서는 수집된 자료를 SPSS WIN 15.0 Version 통계 프로그램을 이용하여 분석하였으며, 조사대상의 일반적 특성과 교직생활 관심사와 매너리즘의 정도를 알아보기 위하여 기술통계와 빈도분석을 실시하였고, 체육교사의 일반적 특성에 따른 교직생활 관심사와 매너리즘을 알아보기 위하여 t-test와 일원변량 분산분석(one-way ANOVA), 그리고 사후검증(LSD)의 통계기법을 실시하였다. 이와 같은 자료수집 및 분석과정을 통하여 얻어진 본 연구의 분석결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 중·고등학교 체육교사의 교직생활 관심사와 매너리즘을 분석한 결과 체육교사들은 교직생활에서 학생관심사에 대해 가장 관심이 많은 것으로 나타났으며, 업무매너리즘을 가장 많이 느끼는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 체육교사들은 매너리즘의 개념에 대해 83%는 인지하고 있는 것을 알 수 있었다. 둘째, 체육교사의 일반적 특성에 따른 교직생활 관심사의 경우 큰 유의한 차이는 나타나지 않았지만, 평균값을 비교했을 때 교직경력의 경우 업무관심사를 제외한 모든 영역에서 교사의 교직경력이 낮을수록 교직생활 관심사별 관심도가 높은 것으로 나타났다. 또한 중학교에 근무 중인 체육교사의 경우 학생관심사, 수업관심사, 업무관심사에 대한 관심도가 높았고, 고등학교에 근무하는 체육교사의 경우 자아관심사에 대한 관심도가 더 높았다. 설립구분에 따라서는 체육교사가 국·공립학교에 근무할수록 학생, 수업, 자아관심사에 대한 관심도가 더 높았고, 사립학교에 근무할수록 업무관심사에 대한 관심도가 더 높은 것으로 나타났다. 교직생활 매너리즘의 경우 또한 대체적으로 유의한 차이가 크게 나타나지 않았지만 평균값을 비교했을 때 성별에 따라 남자교사들에 비해 여자교사들이 매너리즘을 많이 느끼고 있음을 알 수 있었고, 교직경력에 따라서 체육교사의 교직경력이 10년 미만인 교사들보다 10년 이상인 체육교사들이 매너리즘을 더 많이 느낀다고 나타났다. 또한 모든 관심사별 매너리즘의 평균값이 고등학교와 사립학교에 근무하는 체육교사에게 더 크게 나타났다. 셋째, 교사의 교직생활 관심사와 매너리즘 간에는 상관관계가 있는 것으로 나타났으며, 이때 유의한 차이가 없는 업무관심사는 제외하고 분석하였다. 그 결과 학생매너리즘은 학생관심사와 수업관심사에 많은 영향을 받는 것으로, 수업매너리즘과 업무매너리즘 그리고 자아매너리즘은 수업관심사에 많은 영향을 받는 것으로 나타났다. 이와 같은 결과를 종합해 볼 때, 중·고등학교 체육교사들은 일반적 특성에 따라 교직생활 관심사와 매너리즘의 정도 차이를 나타냈으며, 관심사와 매너리즘 간에는 유의미한 부적 관계를 가진다는 사실을 알 수 있다. 이러한 현직 체육교사의 교직생활에 대한 교사 발달 단계에 따른 깊은 이해를 바탕으로 현장에서의 매너리즘을 극복하고 교사의 전문능력 개선을 통한 교직생활의 변화를 기약할 수 있을 것이다.
