TV 과학 프로그램이 중학생의 과학에 대한 태도에 미치는 영향

Abstract

학생들은 학교 교육과 같은 정규 과학 학습과 학교 밖에서 이루어지는 비정규 과학 학습으로 과학을 접한다. 비정규 과학 학습은 최근 학생들이 학교 밖에서도 과학과 관련된 다양한 경험을 할 기회가 많아지고 그것이 과학 학습에 영향을 줄 가능성이 높아졌기 때문에 관심을 가져야 할 부분이다. 특히 비정규 과학 학습 영역 중 TV 과학 프로그램은 학생들이 손쉽게 즐기는 매체라는 점에서 그 교육적 영향을 연구할 필요가 커지고 있다. 이에 본 연구의 목적은 현재 방송되고 있는 TV 과학 프로그램을 크게 시사·교양형식, 드라마형식, 연예·오락형식, 뉴스·보도형식의 네 가지로 나누고, 각 형식의 특성에 따라 시청 후 학생들의 과학에 대한 태도에 미치는 영향을 알아보는 것이다. 본 연구는 경기도 수원 소재의 중학교 2, 3학년 467명을 대상으로 하였다. 본 연구를 위하여 TV 과학 프로그램에 대한 관심도, TV 과학 프로그램 형식에 대한 선호도, 가장 선호하는 TV 과학 프로그램 형식 시청 후 과학에 대한 태도 형성을 설문을 통해 알아보았다. 본 연구를 통하여 얻어진 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, TV 과학 프로그램 시청 후 과학에 대한 태도 형성을 알아본 결과, 전체 과학에 대한 태도 형성은 비교적 긍정적이었고, 남학생이 여학생보다 태도 형성이 좀 더 긍정적이었다(p<.05). 과학에 대한 태도 형성을 하위 영역별로 살펴 본 결과는, 과학의 유용성에 대한 태도, 과학관련 직업에 대한 태도, 과학 흥미에 대한 태도는 긍정적으로 형성되었다. 과학 학습에 대한 태도와 과학과 사회와의 관계에 대한 태도 형성은 긍정적이지도 부정적이지도 않았다. 둘째, 가장 자주 보는 TV 과학 프로그램 형식 선택에 따른 시청 후 과학에 대한 태도 형성을 살펴보면, 전체 과학에 대한 태도는 시사·교양형식과 드라마형식이 연예·오락형식과 뉴스·보도형식보다 긍정적으로 형성되었다(p<.05). 과학에 대한 태도의 하위 영역별로 살펴 본 결과는 시사·교양형식을 본 학생들이 과학 학습에 대한 태도, 과학의 유용성에 대한 태도, 과학 흥미에 대한 태도가 가장 긍정적 형성되었고(p<.05), 드라마형식은 과학과 사회와의 관계에 대한 태도 형성에 가장 긍정적 영향을 줬다(p<.05). 반면에 연예·오락 형식은 과학 학습에 대한 태도와 과학과 사회와의 관계에 대한 태도 형성에 오히려 부정적 영향을 줬다(p<.05). 셋째, 배경 변인에 따라 TV 과학 프로그램 시청 후 과학에 대한 태도 형성을 살펴보면, 과학에 관심이 높을수록, TV 과학 프로그램에 관심이 높을수록, 여학생보다는 남학생이, TV 과학 프로그램을 자주 시청할수록, 장래 희망이 과학과 관련이 있을수록, 과학 성적이 높을수록, 부모의 직업이 과학과 관련이 있을수록 긍정적으로 태도 형성이 있었다(p<.05). 이는 TV 과학 프로그램이 비정규 과학 학습으로서 과학에 대한 태도 형성에 대체로 긍정적 영향을 준다는 것을 시사하고 있다. 따라서 TV 과학 프로그램 형식은 전체 과학에 대한 태도 형성은 물론 과학에 대한 태도의 모든 하위 영역에서도 가장 긍정적 영향을 준 시사·교양형식으로 제작되는 것이 바람직 할 것으로 보인다. 또한 이를 비정규 과학 학습으로 활용한다면 중학생들의 과학에 대한 태도 형성에 긍정적일 것이므로 과학 수업이나 기타 다양하게 활용할 수 있는 방법에 대한 연구가 필요하다.;Students learn science in not only the class but also out of the classroom. Non-educational lessons become increasingly inseparable part of science lesson because students encounter many science lessons in daily life. In particular, scientific television programs come in contact with students easily. Thus, to study of students’ attitude where students like or dislike science as well as they consider as useful or useless science by educational effects of scientific television programs is allowed to understand how students learn. The goal of this study is to investigate the effects of current television programs in documentary, drama, talk-show, and news on students. We examined students’ attitude among 467 middle school students at 2nd and 3rd grades in Suwon, questionnaires were carried out their attitude related to science television program. We examined the patterned using chi-square test, t-test, one-way ANOVA, and Scheffe within SPSS. The results on the research are as follows: First, total attitude toward science was formed positive affect. boys than girls was formed positive affect(p<.05). Second, we present that documentary and drama are more affected than take-show or news(p<.05). In detail, students watching on documentary become a positive students’ attitude in usefulness and interest. Students watching on drama become a positive students’ attitude in relation between science and society. However, students watching on talk-show become a negative students’ attitude in academic development and relation between science and society. Third, we find the correlation which is based on backgrounds between students’ attitude and effects of scientific television program on the students. There are positive effects of increasing interest in science, increasing interest in scientific television programs, boys than girls, increasing frequency in scientific television programs, connecting science in the future job, being high the grade in science, and connecting science in parents’ occupation(p<.05).
