A STUDY ON RELATIVIZATION

Abstract

本 論文은 生成一變形文法의 理論에 입각(立却)한 關係節化현상에 對한 Embedding Hypothesis에 立脚해서 the ART-S analysis, the NP-S analysis 및 the NOM-S analysis의 先行硏究를 檢討하고, 關係節化現象에 대한 Conjunction Hypothesis에 立脚해서 Thompson(1967), Thompson(1970), Oh(1971) 및 Kang(1974)의 關係節化 理論을 批判的으로 槪觀하며, 現存 關係節化理論의 修正에 對한 提案을 試圖한 結果 Definiteness는 심층 構造에 나타내어서는 안되고 Order of underlying Conjuncts는 심층구조에서 고정될 必要가 있다는것을 發見하였다.;This is a study on relativization. within the framework of the generative-transformational theory. In this study, the ART-S analysis, the NP-S analysis and the N0M-S analysis with respect to the embedding hypothesis on restrictive relativization have been examined. And various theories by Thompson (1967), Thompson (1970), Oh (1971) and Kang (1974) with respect to the conjunction hypothesis on restrictive and nonrestrictive relativizations have been critically reviewed. Some suggestions for the revision of the current theories on relativization have been proposed as follows : the definiteness should not be structurally represented in the underlying structure and the order of conjuncts must be fixed in the underlying structure for both restrictive and nonrestrictive relativizations
