진로탐색 프로그램이 중학교 특수학급 학생의 자기결정력에 미치는 영향

Abstract

최근, 장애인의 삶의 질과 독립생활이 특수교육의 궁극적인 목표로 대두되면서 학생들 스스로 삶의 주인이 되어 자신과 관련된 선택과 결정을 할 수 있는 자기결정력이 중요한 교육적 성과로 인식되고 있다. 선행연구 결과 자기결정력에 대한 구조화된 교수 프로그램과 스스로 결정을 할 수 있는 기회를 많이 제공하는 것이 자기결정력 증진에 도움이 된다고 나타났다. 일반교육에서 말하는 진로교육을 특수교육에서는 전이교육이라는 용어로 사용하고 있으며, 전이교육의 구성요소로서 자기결정력의 중요성을 강조하고 있으므로 중학교 단계에서 강조되어야 할 진로탐색의 핵심인 자신의 흥미, 성격, 강점과 약점, 신체적 조건, 꿈과 희망 등을 포함하는 자신에 대한 이해, 목표설정, 성취인식에 관한 진로탐색 프로그램의 중재가 필요하다고 하겠다. 본 연구에서는 중학교 특수학급에 입급된 12세부터 16세까지의 장애학생들을 대상으로 진로탐색 프로그램이 그들의 자기결정력에 미치는 영향에 대해 알아보고자 하였다. 본 연구는 4개 공립 중학교의 특수학급 학생 30명을 실험집단 15명, 통제집단 15명으로 배치하여 실시하였으며, 실험집단의 학생들은 3명에서 5명까지의 소집단으로 구성되어 연구에 참여하였다. 본 연구에서 사용된 진로탐색 프로그램은 Hoffman과 Field(1995)가 개발한 자기결정력 단계(Steps to Self-determination) 교육과정과 서울시 교육연구원(1991)에서 발간한 진로탐색 지도자료, 기타 중학교 장애학생에게 적합하다고 판단되는 것을 본 연구자가 12회기로 구성한 것이다. 중재는 한 회기 당 45분간 씩 일주일에 2회, 6주간에 걸쳐 총 12회기를 실시하였다. 본 연구에서 사용한 검사도구는 Hoffman, Field, Sawilowsky(2000)가 공동제작한 자기결정 척도 교사용과 학생용이다. 자기결정 척도 교사용은 방명애(2001)가 번안한 것을 사용하였으며, 학생용은 본 연구자가 번안하고 특수교육 전문가 2인으로부터 내용타당도를 검증 받은 것을 사용하였다. 검사결과는 진로탐색 중재의 효과를 검증하기 위해 실험, 통제집단간 사전 ·사후검사 평균값의 차이의 차를 SPSS/WIN 프로그램을 통해 t검증하였다. 본 연구의 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 교사가 평정한 자기결정력에 있어서 진로탐색에 대한 중재를 받은 실험집단은 통제집단에 비해 유의하게 향상되었다. 또한 자기결정력의 하위요인 중 자신의 가치 알기를 제외한 자신 알기, 계획하기, 행동하기, 성과 경험하고 배우기에 있어서 실험집단이 통제집단에 비해 유의하게 향상되었다. 둘째, 학생이 평정한 자기결정력에 있어서 진로탐색에 대한 중재를 받은 실험집단은 통제집단에 비해 유의미한 차이를 나타내었다. 자기결정력의 하위요인 중에서는 자신 알기와 행동하기에서 실험집단이 통제집단에 비해 유의하게 향상되었고 나머지 영역에서는 유의미한 차이를 나타내지 않았다. 이상의 결과를 종합해 볼 때, 본 연구에서 사용된 진로탐색에 대한 중재가 특수학급에 입급된 장애학생의 자기결정력을 증진시키는데 긍정적인 효과가 있었음을 알 수 있다. 따라서, 이러한 진로탐색에 대한 프로그램이 중학교 장애학생의 진로교육 및 전이교육의 일환으로 실행되어 학생들의 자기결정력 증진에 많이 활용되어야 하겠다.;The purpose. of this study is to examine the effects of the career search program on self-determination of the middle school students with disabilities in special classes. The participants of the current study were 30 students with disabilities in special classes of 4 public middle schools. 15 students were placed in the experimental group and the other 15 were in the control group. The career search program, as the intervention, was applied to the experimental group only. The experimental procedure was composed of pre-test, treatment of experiment, and post-test. The experiment was conducted 2 times a week for the total of 12 sessions, and each session was 45 minutes long. The test instruments used to determine self-determination were Self-Determination Teacher Perception Scale and Self-Determination Student Scale made by Hoffman, Field, and Sawilowsky(2000). T-test was used to test the effect of the career search program on self-determination of middle school students with disabilities between the two groups. The results of this study are as follows; 1. A significant difference was found between the experimental group and the control group on self-determination rated by teachers, showing more improvement in the experimental group. 2. Significant differences were found between the two groups on 4 factors of 5 sub factors of self-determination. 3. A significant difference was found between the experimental group and the control group on self-determination rated by students, showing more improvement in the experimental group. 4. Significant differences were found between the two groups on 2 factors of 5 sub factors of self-determination. These results indicate that the implementation of career search intervention is an effective way to improve self-determination of the middle school students with disabilities in special classes. The findings from the current study suggest that comprehensive and systematic educational programs should be continuously developed and offered to students in order to improve their self-determination.
