19세기 후반기 프랑스 화가들에 미친 우끼요에의 영향

Abstract

서양미술사에 있어 19세기는 과거 어느때보다 다양한 경향과 개성있는 예술가들을 지닌 시기였다. 유럽의 화가들은 새로운 예술 표현을 찾아 끊임없는 도전과 유럽 이외의 세계로 눈을 돌리거나 때로는 직접 찾아나서는 일도 주저하지 않았다. 이것은 유럽이 곧 세계의 전부였던 그때까지의 사고방식이 커다란 전환기를 맞이하게 되었음을 의미하는 동시에 유럽중심의 기준을 그대로 적용할 수 없는 세계가 존재한다는 현실에 눈을 뜬 결과였다. 이러한 전환기를 맞이하게 된 배경에는 여러가지 요소들이 있겠지만 19세기 사람들로 하여금 다른 눈으로 보도록 도와주었던 것 중 사진의 발달과 일본의 채색 목화판의 역할은 중요한 것으로 사진과 일본 판화의 영향이 없었다면 아마도 인상주의는 그처럼 빨리 인정받고 영향을 미치기 어려웠을 것이다. 19세기의 사진술의 발달은 과학의 발달이 인간의 사회화 문화에 끼치는 지대한 영향속에서 미술에 큰 영향을 미쳤으며 인상주의자들이 새로운 소재와 참신한 색채구성을 모색하는 모험의 과정에서 발견한 채색판화들은 화면의 구성과 색채등의 직접적인 요소로서 지대한 영향을 끼쳤다. 이 논문의 주제인 19세기 근대회화에 대한 우끼요에의 영향은 1860년대를 지나면서 본격화되었다. 사실주의 회화방식에 대한 깊은 회의와 예민한 현실 감각 속에서 우끼요에는 유럽 화가들의 새로운 영감으로서 등장하게 된 것이다. 그 근거는 역사화, 신화, 종교화가 중심이 되는 서양회화의 전통과는 달리 우끼요에는 현실적 생활 풍습, 감정 등을 주제로 살고 있었는데 이것은 당시 인상주의 또는 후기 인상주의 화가들의 관심사와 일치하는 것이다. 우끼요에는 인상주의 화가들과 후기 인상주의 화가들에 영향을 끼쳤을 뿐 아니라 제1보라 할 나비派(The Nabis)를 탄생시켰다. 우끼요에에서 보여진 평면색 색채의 대조, 원근법무시, 장식적 효과는 당시의 유럽 화가들에게는 자신들도 모르는 사이에 얼마나 많은 인습이 그들에게 남아있어 사물을 순수한 예기치않은 모습으로 바라보는데 방해하고 있는지를 깨닫게 해주었던 것이다. 결국 우끼요에는 파격적인 구도와 창안의 대담성, 그리고 기교적 완벽성을 결합시켰다. 이는 19세기말 다양한 예술혁신에 이상을 세우는데 일조를 하였다. 이것은 단순한 異國문화끼리의 접촉의 수준을 넘어 서로의 조형적 특성과 결합되어 새로운 본체를 이룩하였던 것이다.;19C was very abundant in artists of various tendency and individuality. European artists sought for new artistic expression, and they did not hesitate to look out personally for what they sought for, even outside Europe. This meant a turning point of their way of thinking and a result of then realizing that there are ever so many worlds which have exceptions to the rule, "Europe is the center of the world." Till then, Europe was the whole world. Among the factors that have opened these turning point, the development of photography and the woodblock print of Japan played a great role for people in 19C to change their point of view. Without photography and Japanese woodblock print, Impressionism could not ahve received much recognition nor have had an important influence. The developement of 19C's photography, under the great influence of scientific development upon the human society and culture, had an effect on art. And Japanese woodblock print which Impressionists discovered in the process of searching for new materials and novel color composition, had gret influence on the composition of the picture and coloraction as directional factors. The effect of Ukiyo-e on 19C's mordern painting has come in good earnest in 1860s' In the thought of realism painting and keen realistic sense, Ukiyo-e appeared as a new inspiration to European artists. The reason is that Ukiyo-e took his themes ,differently with historic, mythology religious paintig centered westernn painting tradition, on actual life customs and feeling etc, which accorded with the concerns of Impressionist and Late Impressionist at that time. Ukiyo-e affected not only the Impressionist and Neo-Impressionist but also brought the birth of the Nabis. The contrast of color, the neglect of perspective and the decorative effects in Ukiyo-e made the contemporary european artists to realize how their habits prevented their pure look a t the objectives. Eventually, Ukiyo-e brought extraordinary composition daring creativity and perfect artistry into one. It helped to establish an ideal in the various artistic innovation of the late 19C This was more than a simple contact of different cultures. They made a new essence by combining each other's plastic characteristics.
