중학교 영어평가에 있어서 통합 평가의 적용방안

Abstract

최근 수십 년 동만 언어학 이론과 언어 교수법이 변화함에 따라 언어 평가 방법도 바뀌어 오고 있다. 즉 구조 언어학의 영향으로 분리 평가가 나타난 것처럼, 1960년대 이후 심리 언어학과 사회 언어학의 영향으로 실제 상황에서의 의사 소통을 중시하는 교수법이 나타나며 그에 따라 통합 평가가 나오게 되었다. Cloze Test는 통합평가의 대표적 형태 중의 하나로, 타당도, 신뢰도와 실용성에 있어서 학생들의 전체적 언어 능력을 측정하는, 보다 훌륭한 평가 도구라는 사실이 많은 선행 연구에 의하여 밝혀졌다. 본 연구에서는 이러한 Cloze Test를 실제 우리의 교육 현장에서 학생들의 언어 능력 평가 도구로 실시하여 그 적용 가능성을 논해 보는 것을 목적으로 한다. 이 목적을 수행하기 위하여 서울 시내의 (A) 중학교 1학년생 108명과 3학년생 111명을 대상으로 두 유형의 Cloze Test를 실시하여 두 유형에 따른Cloze Test점수와 영어 학년말 성적과의 상관 계수를 Pearson Product Moment Correlation에 의해 산출해 보았으며, 각 Cloze Test의 평균, 표준 편차, 범위와 공란에 들어갈 품사에 따라 정답율을 계산해 보았다. 그 결과, 다음과 같은 결론을 얻었다. 1. 학생들의 영어 학년말 성적과 Cloze Test점수와의 상관 관계는 매우 높게 나타났다. 2. 두 학년에 걸쳐 실시한 Cloze Test는 학년에 따라, 유형에 따라 서로 다른 평가 결과를 나타냈다. 즉, 3학년의 Cloze Test평균 점수보다 1학년의 것이 더 높게 나왔다. fixed-ratio method에 의한 Cloze Test 평균 점수보다 Multiple-Choice Cloze Test의 것이 더 높게 나왔으며, 두 유형 모두가 개인이 가진 능력의 차를 잘 나타내고 있으므로 중학생 영어 평가에 적합하다고 볼 수 있다. 3. Cloze Test에 쓰인 문단 내용의 친숙도는 평가 결과에 차이를 가져올 것으로 예상했으나, 우리 나라 중학생의 경우에는 그다지 큰 차이를 보이지 않았으므로 문단 내용의 친숙도는 평가 결과를 크게 좌우하는 것으로 볼 수 없다. 그러므로 실제 상황에서 의사 소통을 중시하는 요사이 영어 교수법의 경향으로 미루어 볼 때, 분리 평가와 더불어, 분리 평가보다 적은 시간으로 시험 출제나 실시, 채점이 가능한 Cloze Test를 우리 교육 현장에 도입하는 것이 바람직하다고 생각된다.;For several decades, the changes in the language testing method has followed the linguistic theory and language teaching method. That is, as the effect of structural linguistics caused the discrete-point test to appear psycholinguistics and sociolinguistics caused the integrative test to appear since the 1960s. It takes into great account communication in a real situation. The cloze test is the representative form of the integrative tests, and it has been recognized by the research of many scholars as a good testing method with validity, reliability, and practicality in measuring the students' global language proficiency. In this study, I used the cloze tests for measuring the students' language proficiency in our educational situation, so as to argue that the cloze test could be applied to our educational present. For this study, I chose 108 first year students and 111 third year students at (A) middle school in Seoul as subjects and practiced two types of cloze tests. I calculated the correlation coefficient between the cloze test scores and the English annual mean scores by the Pearson Product Moment Correlation, and got the mean score, standard deviation, score range and right answer rate in the eight parts of speech in two types of cloze tests. From this study I came to the conclusions as follows: (1) The correlation coefficient between the English annual mean scores and the cloze test scores was very high. (2) Because of the different types of cloze tests with two school years, I had different results. That is, the first year students* mean score was higher than the third year students' mean score, and the mean score of Multiple-Choice Cloze Test was higher than that of the cloze test by the fixed-ratio method. The two types of the cloze tests are good to show the individual differences in English, and they are suitable as an English testing method in middle school. (3) It is known that familiarity with the text of a cloze test will cause testing results to be different. But the testing results between a familiar text and an unfamiliar text made little difference in this case. Therefore, considering today's English teaching method which makes use of communication in a real situation, it is natural that the doze test as well as the discrete-point test should be used in our educational situation to measure the students' language proficiency, because doze tests require less time than the discrete-point test in making, practicing, scoring test items.
