李朝民畵의 諷刺와 諧謔에 관한 硏究

Abstract

This study aims at the new meaning of the satire and humour of Yi Dynasty's folk painting, the new angle and approach to folk painting. The history of a caricature is generally connected with the perspective that one social group (class) looks at another. The most typical Korean folk themes such as "Horangee (Korean Tiger)" is always humorous and extremely satiric. Especially Horangee's performance and gesture make a caricature of Korean folk painting. Folk painting bears neither the signature of the artist nor any sort of inscription. Because it is anonymous, it shows well the phases of the times through keen criticism. Yi Dynasty, particularly the higher level of the society, was filled up with corrupted politicians, disguised scholars, and pretended artists who merely worshiped the greatness of the giant neighbor. Common people wanted liberation from Yi Dynasty's artificial oppression. Therefore it represented their wisdom. The satiric and humorous folk painting did not succeed to us and did not have growth further, while Western caricature joins together the citizen of civil society and the art of printing. There are commonnesses and differences between our satiric and humorous folk painting and Western caricature. The two have samely the social function - the satire and humour. Their period backgrounds are mostly social upheavals. And they used commonly animal image in expression. But their critical difference is whether they join together the citizen of civil society and the art of printing. What is it,'s look if the satire folk painting of Yi Dynasty goes through the annexation of Korea to Japan, colonial policy, the restoration of Independence, and Korean War? I think that it may go through such as Western caricature's trace. Maybe it might have differentiated cartoon, print, or decorative design, etc. If my thought doesn't distorted the charm of Korean folk painting, the satiric and humorous folk painting of Yi Dynasty can be called the not-specialized Koreanness Possibility as a caricature.;本 硏究는 李朝民畵의 諷刺와 諧謔性의 意味를 재조명함으로써, 지금까지의 民畵에 대한 硏究의 새로운 角度를 찾아보는 자료가 되고자 하는 것이다. 一般的으로 諷刺畵의 歷史는 하나의 社會的 集團 내지 階級이 다른 集團이나 階級을 바라보는 觀點의 歷史와 관련되어 있다. 民畵는 無名性을 利點으로 가짐으로써 당시의 時代的 狀況을 신랄한 諷刺로써 後世에 전할 수 있었는데, 그것은 李朝社會의 人爲的 抑壓으로부터의 解放을 원하는 民衆의 슬기로움이 民畵를 통해서 表現된 것이라 할 수 있다. 諷刺ㆍ諧謔的 民畵는, 캐리커처가 近代市民社會에서의 市民階級의 成長과 그에 따른 印刷術의 발달과 結合함으로써 뚜렷한 하나의 쟝르로 獨立ㆍ發達해 가는 반면에, 그렇지 못함으로써 더 이상 발달ㆍ계승되지 못하였다. 그러나, 이러한 歷史的인 발달을 假定해 보면, 우리는 兩者의 決定的 差異點을 찾기가 어렵다. 오히려, 社會的 批判機熊性, 그 發生條件의 假定上, 時代의 政治ㆍ社會的 背景, 그리고 表現類型上으로 볼 때, 相互 接近하고 있음을 알 수 있는 것이다. 이러한 諷刺ㆍ諧謔的 民畵가 繼承ㆍ發達되었다면, 韓ㆍ日合邦과 植民 地支配, 光復과 民族相爭을 거치는 동안에 西洋의 캐리커처式의 발달을 할 수 있었을 것이라고 생각할 수 있다. 卽, 우리 民畵도 說話的 素材에서 벗어나서 多樣하고도 뚜렷한 分化ㆍ濁立發達이 可能하였을 것이다. 政治諷剌漫畵, 油畵, 版畵, 그리고 裝飾約 機能의 繪畵 等이 分化되고 獨立ㆍ發達하기 이전의 可能性을 갖고 있었던 것이라 생각된다. 이러한 觀點에서 李朝時代의 諷刺ㆍ諧謔的 民畵를 未分化된 캐리커처로서의 韓國的 可能性이라고 볼 수 있다고 생각한다. 이처럼 諷刺畵의 脈絡에 닿고 있는 諷刺·諧謔的 民畵는 캐리커처와 비교해 볼 때 歷史的으로 市民諧級의 成立과 印刷媒體와의 結合이 결여되어 있을 뿐인 것이다. 앞으로 이러한 視角에서의 批判的 硏究가 많이 나옴으로써, 우리의 民畵에 대한 價値를 정당히 評價할 수 있을 것이다.
