유아 그림책 일러스트레이션의 교육적 적합성 분석

Abstract

The subject of this study is to analyze educational suitability of illustration of picture books for little children. So it aims to know whether illustration of picture books published currently is suitable expression for little children in respect of education. In order to analyze mainly picture books which little children frequently contact with and see, 102 picture books for little children were sampled on the basis of the bestseller for the last three months from three Internet sites of on-off line bookstores. A survey tool for measuring educational suitability was made based on standards of evaluating good illustration of picture books and studies and theories on illustration of picture books for little children. It consisted of 13 questions including development of visual perception, transferability, and artistic nature. After grades were measured, descriptive statistic analysis, frequency analysis, t-test, and analysis of variance were used for analysis of the collected data. The result of this study was summarized as follows: First, illustration of bestselling picture books for little children marked relative high average of the whole(M=4.15, SD=.56) and 95 picture books, 93.1% of sampled books, got grades more than normal grades. It means illustration of sampled picture books is generally suitable for education. Second, as for an average of low-ranking area, development of visual perception was M=4.41, SD=0.62, transferability was M=4.17, SD=.60, and artistic nature was M=3.87, SD=.77. On the one hand, more picture books received unsuitable grades in an area of artistic nature, which shows that the aspect of artistic nature is rather insufficient. Third, in verifying differences between each variable of illustration of picture books for little children, artistic area(F=8.683, P<.001) and the whole (F=3.648, P<.05) showed differences from other areas depending on whether a sampled book has received a prize and been selected. That is, illustration of picture books which have received a prize abroad got the highest marks in artistic and whole areas, which showed differences from illustration of picture books which have not received a prize and selected at home. As a result, illustration of bestselling picture books in the last three months are suitable for education. In addition, this study shows that it is needed to make more careful efforts in the artistic aspect together with in expression to consider development of little children's visual perception and transferability of meaning.;본 연구는 유아 그림책 일러스트레이션의 교육적 적합성을 분석하기 위한 연구로서, 현재 출판되고 있는 유아 그림책의 일러스트레이션이 교육적으로 적합한지 알아보는 데 목적을 두고 있다. 본 연구는 현재 많은 유아들이 자주보고 있는 그림책을 위주로 분석하고자 3곳의 서점 인터넷 사이트에서 최근 3개월 간 높은 판매순위를 보이는 유아 그림책 102권을 표집하였으며, 표집된 대상을 국가별, 장르별, 수상 및 선정 여부별로 나누어 분류에 따라서도 교육적 적합성에 차이가 있는지 보고자 하였다. 교육적 적합성을 측정하기 위한 조사도구는 좋은 그림책 일러스트레이션의 평가 기준 및 유아를 위한 그림책 일러스트레이션의 연구와 이론을 바탕으로 제작하였으며, 시지각 발달성, 전달성, 예술성 영역으로 구성된 총 13문항이다. 본 연구의 점수 측정은 연구자를 포함한 일러스트레이터 경력을 지닌 미술교육전공 대학원생 2인으로 이루어졌으며, 점수 측정 후, 수집된 자료의 분석으로는 기술통계분석과 빈도분석, t-test, 분산분석을 사용하였다. 본 연구의 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 최근 높은 판매순위를 보인 유아 그림책 일러스트레이션의 전체 평균(M=4.15, SD=.56)은 비교적 높았으며, 95권(93.1%)의 그림책이 보통 이상의 점수를 받은 것으로 나타나 표집된 그림책의 일러스트레이션이 대체로 교육적으로 적합하다고 볼 수 있었다. 둘째, 하위 영역의 평균은 시지각 발달성(M=4.41, SD=.62), 전달성(M=4.17, SD=.60), 예술성(M=3.87, SD=.77) 순으로 나타났으며, 예술성 영역에서 부적합한 점수를 받은 그림책이 보다 많은 것으로 나타나 예술성 측면이 다소 부족하다는 점을 볼 수 있었다. 셋째, 유아 그림책 일러스트레이션의 각 변인 간의 차이 검증에서는 국내 그림책과 국외 그림책의 일러스트레이션 간의 차이가 나타나지 않았으며, 그림책의 장르에 따른 차이가 나타나지 않았다. 그러나 수상 및 선정여부에 따라서는 예술성 영역(F=8.683, P<.001)과 전체(F=3.648, P<.05)에서 차이가 나타났으며, 이는 국외상의 경력이 있는 그림책 일러스트레이션이 예술성과 전체에서 가장 높은 점수를 받은 것으로 나타나 국내상 경력과 수상 경력이 없는 그림책 일러스트레이션과의 차이를 보이고 있었다. 본 연구는 현재 출판되고 있는 그림책 중, 최근 3개월간 높은 판매순위를 보인 유아 그림책의 일러스트레이션이 교육적으로 적합한 수준임을 보여주고 있으며, 앞으로 더 나은 일러스트레이션 제작을 위해 유아의 시지각 발달성과 내용의 의미 전달 측면을 고려하는 표현과 함께 예술적 측면에 보다 세심한 노력이 필요함을 시사하고 있다.
