헤르만 헤세의 『데미안』을 모티브로 한 무용창작작품「시끄러운 고독」에 관한 연구

Abstract

오늘날 현대사회에서는 기술이 발달함에 따라 사회를 구성하는 개인의 역할이 축소되면서 사람들을 비인간화된 존재로 만들었다. 인간이 스스로 자신의 존재가치를 상실하게 되면서 사회와 타인, 자기자신으로부터 소외와 고독을 느끼며 주체성을 잃어가게 되었다. 연구자는 이러한 현상에 주목해 헤르만 헤세의 『데미안』을 모티브로 무용작품 「시끄러운 고독」을 창작하고 정신적인 어려움을 겪는 상황으로부터 벗어나기 위해 적극적인 경험을 통해 내적인 힘을 키워 자신의 주체성을 발견하여 지속적으로 성장하면서 진정한 삶을 살아가기 위한 주체의식 확립의 필요성을 제기하고자 하였다. 본 연구는 헤르만 헤세의 『데미안』을 모티브로 무용창작작품 「시끄러운 고독」(2020)을 창작하고 이를 분석한 것이다. 주제 및 내용, 공간사용 및 장면별 구성, 무용수의 움직임과 이동경로, 오브제와 영상의 의미를 중심으로 작품의 주제를 부각시킬 수 있도록 안무하였으며, 무대공간을 나누어 설정하고 상징적인 오브제와 영상을 사용하여 소외와 고독으로부터 벗어나 변화되는 인간의 심리상태와 주체적인 인간으로서 성장해가는 모습을 표현하였다. 작품은 총 세 장으로 구성하여 작품을 전개하였다. 작품의 1장에서는 현대사회에서 겪게 되는 소외와 고독으로 인해 심화되어가는 인간 내면의 어둡고 불안정한 심리를 나타내고자 무대의 하수 앞쪽을 A공간으로 설정하였으며, 발스텝을 부각시켜 세상을 살아가는 인간의 불안한 심리를 이미지화하여 표현하였다. 이때 종이분쇄기 효과음을 사용해 차갑고 무거운 분위기를 더하고자 하였으며, 빨간색 조명을 활용하여 인간이 바라보는 현대사회에 대하여 금지, 위험, 경고의 의미를 나타내었다. 무용수는 오브제인 손전등을 사용하여 사회의 어두운 현상 속에서 차단되어 불안하고 소외된 상태를 나타내면서 인간성을 상실하게 된 모습을 표현하였다. 2장에서는 인간은 사유하는 존재로서 지식을 접하고 경험하면서 소외와 고독으로부터 벗어날 수 있는 의지를 얻으며 성장해가는 과정을 전개하기 위해 리듬감 있고 활기찬 분위기의 피아노 음악을 사용하여 소외를 느끼던 내면 공간인 A공간을 벗어나 B공간의 상수로 이동하는 모습을 연출하였다. 책을 덮고 있는 흰 자켓 안으로 머리를 파묻는 동작은 책 오브제를 통해 지식을 접하고 습득하는 과정이 진행되고 있음을 상징적으로 표현한 것이다. 자켓을 들어 올리며 형태를 변형시키는 움직임은 다양한 지식들을 보여주는 것으로 이전보다 주체적이고 개방적인 모습으로 변화되고 있음을 나타내었다. 무대하수로 이동하면서 파도 소리와 책 넘기는 소리의 효과음을 사용하여 무한한 잠재성의 분위기를 연출하여 지식의 내면화 과정으로 활기를 얻게 되는 장면을 설정하였다. 인간은 사유하는 존재로서 책을 상징하는 종이 오브제를 통해 지식을 접하고 경험하면서 자기확신을 할 수 있으며 소외와 고독으로부터 벗어날 수 있는 의지를 갖고 내면을 확립하게 되는 과정을 표현하였다. 3장에서는 자켓을 입으며 무대 중앙인 C공간으로 이동하면서 새로운 삶의 태도를 갖게 되었음을 나타내었다. 무용수는 자켓으로부터 길게 이어진 종이를 끌어내면서 지식의 발현으로 주체적인 시각을 갖춘 개인으로 도약할 수 있음을 보여주고, 무용수의 힘 있게 뻗는 다리의 움직임을 통해 적극적인 모습으로 살아가는 인간의 주체적인 삶의 태도를 표현하였다. 3장의 첼로 음악은 깊은 음색과 주변음을 조화롭게 흡수하는 넓은 음역을 지닌 곡으로 바흐의 무반주 첼로모음곡 1번을 사용해 장면의 분위기를 조성하여 혼란스러운 심리상태를 극복하고 주변과 조화를 이루며 주체적 인간으로 살아가려는 의지를 나타내었다. 또한 무용수가 입고 있던 자켓을 머리 위로 들어 올리며 넓게 펼쳐 흰색 자켓이 큰 사각형태를 이루는 장면을 연출하여 지식의 범위가 넓어지고 있는 상태를 비유적으로 표현하였다. 이때 사각형 모양의 자켓에 자연적인 나무의 영상을 투사하여 지속적으로 성장하면서 발전할 수 있는 주체적 삶을 획득하며 살아갈 수 있는 인간의 모습을 상징적으로 나타내었다. 본 연구는 무용창작작품 「시끄러운 고독」을 통해 불안정한 내적 상태인 소외와 고독으로부터 탈피하여 사유하는 존재로서 인간이 주체성을 가지고 자신의 삶을 적극적으로 살아가겠다는 희망적인 메시지를 전하며 사회현상에 대해 적극적으로 바라보고 도전하는 자세를 갖는 것의 중요성을 말하고자 하였다. 이를 통해 인간은 진정한 사회구성원으로서 삶의 의지를 갖고 스스로 깨달음을 얻으며 성장해나갈 수 있음을 작품을 통해 강조하고자 하였다. ;In today’s contemporary society, as roles of individuals that constitute the society are reduced due to the development of technology, people has become dehumanized. As people no longer hold their value of existence, they are experiencing loneliness and alienation from the society, others, and they themselves, and are losing independence. Paying attention to this phenomenon, the researcher choreographed the dance work 「A Noisy Loneliness」 with Hermann Hesse’s 『Demian』 as its motif, and sought to suggest the necessity to establish the sense of independence on account of living the true life of continuous growth by developing the inner strength through active experiences to break away from mental difficulties in order to develop the inner strength, thereby discovering one’s own independence. This study choreographed the dance work 「Noisy Lonliness」(2020) with the motif of 『Demian』 by Hermann Hesse, and analyzed it. Focusing on the theme and content, use of space and composition of each scene, dancer’s movement and path, and significance of objet and video, the choreography was done in a way that it highlights the theme of the work. The changing mental state as one breaks away from alienation and loneliness, and one’s maturation into an independent person were expressed by dividing up the stage scene and using symbolic objet and video. The work is composed of three acts in total. In Part 1, in order to show the dark and insecure psychology within people that is exacerbated by loneliness and alienation experienced in the contemporary society, the downstage right was set as Scene A, and the anxious psychology of people living the world was expressed through image by emphasizing the footsteps. At this point, the sound effect of a paper shredder was used in an attempt to create a cold and heavy atmosphere, and red light was used to signify of ideas of prohibition, danger, and warning regarding the contemporary society viewed by people. The dancer used the objet flashlight to represent the anxious and alienated state as one is blocked out in the dismal situation of the society, portraying the loss of humanity. Part 2 showed the process of one growing, meanwhile gaining the will to break away from the alienation and loneliness as one, being a thinking being, acquire knowledge and gain experiences. This was done by using a rhythmic piano music of a bright mood, together with moving from scene A, the scene of the inner side where one felt alienated, to Scene B of the left stage. The motion of burying the head into the white jacket that is covering the book symbolically showed that the acquisition of knowledge through the objet book is in progress. The motion of lifting the jacket and changing its shape represented a variety of knowledge, showing that one is becoming more independent and open minded than before. When moving to stage right, the sound effect of wave and that of a book being flipped over were used to create an atmosphere of unlimited potential, portraying the scene of gaining vitality through the process of internalizing the knowledge. As a thinking being, one can acquire knowledge and gain experiences through the objet paper, which symbolizes the book, thereby having self-assurance, and the process of establishing the inner side with the will to break away from alienation and loneliness was expressed. In Part 3, the gaining of new attitude towards life was shown by the dancer moving to Scene C, which is the center stage, while putting the jacket on. By drawing the long paper connected to the jacket out, the dancer showed that it is possible to become an individual equipped with an independent view as the knowledge takes effect. In addition, the independent attitude of living life with activeness was expressed through the dancer’s movement of powerfully stretching the leg. Bach’s Unaccompanied Cello Suite No. 1 used in Part 3 is rich in tone and has wide range of notes that harmoniously absorbs the background noise, creating the scene’s atmosphere and showing the will to live as an independent person who overcomes the confused mental state and harmonize with the surrounding. Moreover, the situation of the scope of knowledge broadening was figuratively expressed by presenting the scene of the dancer lifting the jacket over the head and making a large rectangle with. At this point, the video of the natural tree was projected on the rectangular-shaped jacket, symbolically showing that it is possible to live an independent life in which one can consistently grow and develop. Through the dance work 「A Noisy Loneliness」, this study intended deliver the hopeful message that one would break away from the insecure mental state of alienation and loneliness, actively living an independent life as a thinking being, conveying the importance of having the attitude of actively viewing a social phenomenon and challenging it. Through this, it was attempted to emphasize through the work that as the true members of society, people can grow by having a will to live and finding enlightenment by themselves.
