무용창작작품 「빛」에 관한 연구

Abstract

This thesis presents with the study and analysis of the researcher’s dance work 「The Light」, performed on November 7 2017 at Ewha Womans University Physical Education Building Hall 1. The dance work 「The Light」 views humans’ inferiority complex, which normally brings about negative perceptions, from an optimistic standpoint, and offers a new direction in life based on Adler’s theory which interpreted it as a creative driving force. Thus, this thesis analyzes the dance work 「The Light」 which, among the physically, socially or psychologically expressed inferiority complex of individuals, focuses on the physical aspect. The purpose and significance of the study, as well as the methodology and its limitation are examined in the introduction. The main body analyzes how humans’ inferiority complex, the key concept of the work, is interpreted and which movements are used to depict it. The choreography of 「The Light」 was initiated by the researcher’s interest in physical deficiency and the subsequent psychological hardships. The researcher had been dancing with the assumption of normally functioning sensory organs until witnessing by chance someone lacking those, which made one consider about the deficiency of sensory organs and feelings towards it, and furthermore the case of constructing the creative self by overcoming the inferiority complex. Inferiority complex not only stems from physical deficiency but is a psychological phenomenon socially prevalent. Thus, what the researcher focused on is the physical inferiority of humans, inter alia, the absence of sight which plays a big role in daily life. It was attempted to first ask, ‘can inferiority complex caused by deficiency act as a positive force and be the driving force of growth?’, and then to incorporate the regarding consideration in the work. It was intended to obtain the theoretical basis for this from the concept by Alfred Adler who argued that inferiority complex is the driving force of life, and to artistically actualize the aspects of visual impairment and the process interpreting it with positivity. Chapter 1 implicitly expressed the absence of sight which belongs to physical inferiority and serious psychology of accepting it. Dark lightings and static movements were used overall to depict a heavy and serious mood. Chapter 2 depicted the beginning stage of change aimed at finding new direction, centered on active will and endeavor. Thus, there were greater number of movements compared to chapter 1, and dynamic motions were added. Finally, in chapter 3, it was attempted to significantly highlight the positive aspect of inferiority complex, which is the theme of the work, by sublimating visual impairment into driving force of life through the sense of movements. In conclusion, through 「The Light」, the researcher sought to reveal that although inferiority complex in humans is inevitable, it is not always negative. Furthermore, it is hoped that the work assures that once inferiority complex is viewed in a positive and creative perspective, it presents with courage and hope towards new possibilities. ;본 논문은 2017년 12월 7일 이화여자대학교 체육관 홀 I에서 발표한 연구자의 무용작품 「빛」에 대한 연구이다. 무용작품 ｢빛｣에서는 일반적으로 부정적인 인식을 불러일으키는 인간의 열등감을 긍정적인 측면으로 바라보고, 이를 창조적인 원동력으로 해석한 아들러의 이론을 토대로 새로운 삶의 방향을 전달한다. 이에 따라 본 논문에서는 신체적, 사회적, 심리적으로 표출되는 개인의 열등감 중 신체적 열등감에 초점을 맞춘 무용작품 ｢빛｣을 분석한다. 서론에서는 연구의 목적 및 필요성, 연구 방법과 제한점을 살피고, 본론에서는 작품의 핵심 개념인 인간의 열등감이 어떻게 해석되고, 어떤 동작으로 표현되는지 본격적인 분석이 이루어진다. ｢빛｣의 안무는 신체적 상실감과 그에 따른 심리적 어려움에 대한 연구자의 관심으로부터 시작되었다. 평소 연구자는 정상적으로 기능하는 여러 감각 기관을 지극히 당연하게 여기며 춤을 춰 왔는데, 우연히 그렇지 못한 타인의 모습을 보고 감각 기관의 결핍과 그것에 대한 감정, 나아가 열등감의 극복을 통하여 창조적인 자아를 구축하는 경우까지 생각하게 되었다. 열등감은 신체적 결핍에서 비롯되는 것만이 아니라 사회적으로 만연히 존재하는 자연스러운 심리적 현상이다. 이에 따라 연구자가 주목한 것은 인간의 신체적 열등감, 그중에서도 생활에 중요한 비중을 차지하고 있는 시감각의 결핍이다. 먼저 ‘결핍으로 인한 열등의식이 긍정의 힘으로 작용하여 성장의 원동력이 될 수 있을까?’ 하는 것에 대한 질문을 던지고, 그에 대한 사유를 작품에 담아내고자 하였다. 이에 대한 이론적 토대는 열등감을 삶을 이끌어가는 원동력이라고 주장한 알프레드 아들러의 개념에서 마련하고, 시각장애의 모습과 이를 긍정적으로 해석하는 과정을 예술적으로 형상화하고자 했다. 1장에서는 신체적인 열등함에 속하는 시감각의 결핍과 이를 받아들이는 무거운 심리를 함축적으로 표현하였다. 무겁고 진지한 분위기를 표현하기 위해 전반적으로 어두운 조명과 정적인 움직임으로 표현하였다. 2장에서는 열등감을 극복하려는 적극적인 의지와 노력이 중심이 되어 새로운 방향을 찾기 위한 변화의 본격적인 시작 단계가 표현되었다. 이에 따라 1장에 비해 동작의 가짓수를 늘리고, 동적인 움직임을 더했다. 마지막 3장에서는 ‘움직임’이라는 감각을 통해 시각적 열등감을 삶의 원동력으로 승화시키며 작품의 주제인 열등감의 긍정적인 측면을 확연히 부각하고자 하였다. 결론적으로 연구자는 작품 「빛」을 통해 인간의 열등의식이 불가피한 감정이라 할지라도 결코 부정적이지만은 않다는 것을 표현하고자 했다. 나아가 열등감을 창의적이고 긍정적인 관점으로 바라보면서 새로운 가능성을 향한 인간의 용기와 희망을 북돋워 준다는 점을 확인시키는 작품이 되길 바란다.
