Abstract
Introduction • Purpose: To integrate intensive reading (IR) and extensive reading (ER) • Rationale: IR and ER approaches are used to develop Reading skill, focusing on productive skill activities and reading comprehension through strategy instruction as well as the encouragement toward reading extensively. IR and ER are used as a fundamental way to improve English and it is integrated with other skills. • Target learners: Elementary students mainly from 11 to 13 years old, ranging from 4th grade to 6th grade. • Proficiency: Intermediate-low according to the ACTFL • Learning context: A series of Nate the Great Method • CLT • Intensive and Extensive reading approaches Expected Outcomes • Students will develop not only receptive skills but also productive skills. • Students will acquire reading proficiency through practice of reading strategy. • Students will learn speaking and writing strategy through various activities. • Students will have an opportunity to improve speaking and writing in meaningful context. • Students will learn vocabulary and grammar in IR and ER process.
