중국 박물관 교육의 특징과 평생교육적 함의

Abstract

정보화 시대에 접어들면서, 현대인은 학교에서 제공하는 기본교육에 만족하지 않고, 다양한 방법을 통하여 자신의 지적 호기심을 충족하려고 노력한다. 박물관 교육도 이런 노력의 하나이다. 박물관은 수집·보존·연구의 기능에 머무르지 않고, 오히려 다양한 분야에 대한 활발한 연구를 통해 역사적 자원과 사회적인 자원, 그리고 과학기술을 접목하여 새로운 가치를 사회에 제공함으로써 박물관의 새로운 가능성과 가치를 개발하여 중요한 평생교육 기관으로 자리매김하고 있다. 오랜 역사를 가지고 있는 중국은 박물관에 소장된 역사적인 유물과 자료 또한 많으며, 이는 박물관 교육의 중요한 교육적 자원이 된다. 중국정부는 개혁개방 이후 문화예술교육에 깊은 관심을 갖고 국가차원의 투자를 아끼지 않았으며, 박물관 교육도 그 대상이었다. 중국의 박물관 교육은 이러한 중국의 역사적인 배경과 국가정책 등에 의해 중국만의 특징을 지니게 되었다. 본 연구의 목적은 중국의 중국국가박물관(中國國家博物館)과 고궁박물원(故宮博物院) 교육의 구체적인 사례와 현황을 탐색하여 두 박물관의 교육적 특징을 분석하고, 중국 박물관 교육의 평생교육적 함의를 도출하는데 있다. 이를 바탕으로 중국 박물관 교육의 질적 성장을 위해 평생교육 관점에서 중국 박물관 교육은 어떤 역할을 수행해야 하는지 논의하고자 하였다. 따라서 본 연구는 아래와 같은 연구문제를 제시하였다. 첫째, 중국 국립 박물관(중국국가박물관과 고궁박물원) 교육의 특징은 무엇인가? 둘째, 중국국가박물관과 고궁박물원의 평생교육적 함의는 무엇인가? 위의 연구문제에 따라 중국국가박물관과 고궁박물원에 대한 다양한 자료를 바탕으로 본 연구는 문헌연구를 수행하였다. 2장의 이론적 배경에서는 박물관 교육과 평생교육의 기본적인 이론 및 중국 박물관의 개념, 필요성과 역사발전과정, 그리고 평생교육의 관점에서 중국 박물관 교육의 의미를 다루었다. 3장은 중국국가박물관과 고궁박물원의 전시와 교육 프로그램을 다루었다. 특히 박물관의 전시와 교육 프로그램에 나타나는 교육적 특징을 분석하였다. 4장은 중국국가박물관과 고궁박물원의 사례들을 통해 중국 박물관 교육의 평생교육적 의미에 대해 다루었다. 특히 중국 교육의 중요하고 독특한 개념인 소질교육과 애국주의교육이 박물관 교육에서 어떻게 드러나는지 검토하였다. 결론적으로 본 논문은 중국 박물관이 가지는 평생교육적 함의를 탐구하여 평생교육기관으로서 박물관 교육이 국민의 정서함양과 문화예술감상에 중요한 역할을 할 수 있음을 보여주었다. 본 연구의 결과는 중국 박물관 교육을 통해 중국인의 소질을 함양하고 애국주의 정신을 고양 할 수 있는 가능성을 드러내 보였다.;In the information age, people are no longer contented with the basic education provided by the school system. Hence they try to satisfy their intellectual curiosity through various educational ways and the museum is one of these. Nowadays the museum is not limited to the function of collection, preservation and research. The museum has developed new possibilities. It has been conducting active researches in various fields combining historical and social resources, science and technology. As a result, the museum could provide new values to the society, increasing its values as well. And thanks to this, the museum has become an important institution of lifelong education. China, which has a long history, has a lot of historical artifacts and materials in its museums and these artifacts and materials are important educational resources for museum education. After China’s Reform and Opening up, the government has been deeply interested in culture and art education. As a result investment in culture and art education has been done at the national level since that period. China's museum education has been nationally invested too. Because of this historical background and the influence of the Chinese government’s policies, Chinese museum education has had unique characteristics. The purpose of this study was to explore the implications of Chinese museum education in terms of lifelong education. To achieve this purpose the researcher analyzed the educational characteristics of the Chinese National Museum and the National Palace Museum. Current status of museum education and some specific educational programs of these two national museums were examined here for understanding their educational characteristics. Based on the research’s results, this study also discussed what kinds of role museum education should play to improve its quality from the viewpoint of lifelong education. Therefore, this study presented the following research questions. First, what are the characteristics of China National Museum education (Chinese National Museum and National Palace Museum)? Second, what kinds of implications could we have from the case of National Museum and National Palace Museum in terms of lifelong education? To answer to these research questions this study, first of all, explored the basic theories and concepts related to museum and lifelong learning to build theoretical background of the paper. To put it concretely the researcher examined not only theories of museum education and lifelong education, the concept of Chinese museum, its necessity and its historical process of development but also study the meaning and its educational values of museum in lifelong education. Secondly, this study allotted one chapter to examine the exhibitions and educational programs of the National Museum of China and the National Palace Museum. This part especially focused on revealing the educational characteristics implied in the exhibitions and the educational programs. After that this research studied the implications of Chinese museum education in terms of lifelong education based on the examples of the two museums. In particular, it explored how suzhi education and aiguozhuyi education—a unique concept of Chinese education—is revealed in museum education. In conclusion examining the implications of Chinese museum in the perspective of lifelong education, this study showed that museum can play an important role in promoting Chinese people to appreciate art & culture and to develop emotionally. Particularly the result of this study is significant as it showed the possibility that through museum education Chinese can foster suzhi and aiguozhuyi.
