dc.description.abstractWhile Korean parents tend to push their children to study English from an early age, EFL contexts make it challenging for young learners (YLs) to meaningfully use the language outside of the classroom. In order to encourage English language learning, and foster a joy of reading, this Textbook provides fun and interesting intensive and extensive reading lessons to 7 year olds with the aim of developing a positive attitude towards reading. The target students’ English proficiency level for both receptive and productive skills is at Level 3, ‘Developing’ stage, according to the WIDA proficiency scale. They have learned the alphabet through songs and they can readily recognize letters, and they know some words such as colors, modes of transportation and food. They quite enjoy English classes; however, they struggle with speaking and writing.-
