『간추린 체르니 100』 교재의 연주 기술 분석과 동향 조사

Abstract

For nearly 30 years from 1984 up to now, only 20 to 40 etudes have been extracted randomly from 『100 Progressive Studies(Op. 139)』(1888) by editors and it's been published under the title similar to 『A briefly edited 100 Progressive Studies』 in Korea. This study aims to provide a material to help piano instructors and learners choose and learn various techniques of playing efficiently by analyzing techniques of playing of etudes used in 『A briefly edited 100 Progressive Studies』, based on diverse techniques of playing in 『100 Progressive Studies(Op. 139)』 and examining the frequency and tendency of the etudes chosen to see if techniques of playing were chosen to handle evenly. For this purpose, major techniques of playing of the etudes extracted from the original version(Op. 139) were analyzed, based on total 45 volumes of 『A briefly edited 100 Progressive Studies』 published by 7 publishers, and 'Hierarchical Cluster Analysis' was conducted using the Complete Linkage Method to classify clusters on the basis of the longest distance between clusters, or between a cluster and an object, in order to strengthen particular techniques of playing and encourage instructors and learners choose pieces of music to avoid unnecessary iterative learning. Also, 『A briefly edited 100 Progressive Studies』 teaching materials were classified depending on ‘the name of publisher’ and ‘the time of publication’, and the correlation with techniques of playing was analyzed using the analysis tool of 'Chi-square Test'. Lastly, an interview was conducted with editors of each publisher and piano instructors to examine the basis of publication of 『A briefly edited 100 Progressive Studies』 teaching materials and the present state of application. This study has significance by investigating the changes in 『A briefly edited 100 Progressive Studies』 for about 30 years until 2014 and analyzing the trend of recent teaching materials used using this method, in order to provide available data for piano instructors and leaners. The results of this study are as follows. Major techniques of playing of the etudes used in total 45 volumes of 『A briefly edited 100 Progressive Studies』 of 7 publishers were 'legato, rotation and switch of a thumb, the use of wrists for phrasing, primary triads and inversion, expansion and contraction of hands' and so on and here, the frequency of 'primary triads and inversion' was found to be a playing technique which has markedly increased, compared to the original version, 『100 Progressive Studies, Op. 139』. This playing technique was used in 31 out of 100 etudes of the original version(Op. 139), but in 『A briefly edited 100 Progressive Studies』, 30 out of 60 etudes were extracted from it and as a result, the frequency of this playing technique in 『A briefly edited 100 Progressive Studies』 has drastically increased. This means it is important to acquire playing techniques related to accompaniment in present piano education. Moreover, ‘hierarchical cluster analysis’ of etudes used in 『A briefly edited 100 Progressive Studies』 was carried out to strengthen particular techniques, but no particular technique of playing was extracted from each cluster, because the number of the original version(Op. 139) used in 『A briefly edited 100 Progressive Studies』 reduced to 60 ones, and techniques of playing were not evenly distributed. Next, 『A briefly edited 100 Progressive Studies』 teaching materials were classified depending on ‘the name of publisher’ and ‘the time of publication’, and the correlation with techniques of playing was analyzed using the analysis tool of ‘Chi-square Test’. As a result, a conclusion was obtained that ‘it cannot be said that playing techniques are associated with ’the name of publisher' and 'the time of publication''. This means teaching materials to re-edit similar playing techniques have been published up to now, not that each publisher focused on a particular playing technique, or there was an important characteristic in each period. Lastly, an interview was conducted with editors of each publisher and piano instructors to examine the basis of publication of 『A briefly edited 100 Progressive Studies』 teaching materials and the present state of application. As a result, it was found that『A briefly edited 100 Progressive Studies』 was published, due to the reduction in age of leaners and the learning period. For this reason, publishers have extracted easy etudes and decreased the number of etudes to 20 to 40 ones, to solve this problem. Also, 『A briefly edited 100 Progressive Studies』 should contain new-concept etudes so that piano instructors using this teaching material can selectively use playing techniques for each etude. In conclusion, there is a need to publish 『A briefly edited 100 Progressive Studies』 consisting of etudes to evenly acquire and strengthen all of 28 playing techniques which were analyzed in this study. For realizing this, in addition to 『A briefly edited 100 Progressive Studies』, other etudes of Czerny and valuable etudes of other composers will need to be classified depending on the difficulty of playing techniques so that learners and instructors can learn etudes selectively.;『체르니 100번 연습곡(100 Progressive Studies, Op. 139)』(1888)은 우리나라에서 1984년부터 지금까지 약 30여 년 동안 편집자 임의대로 20-40여 개의 연습곡만 발췌하여 『간추린 체르니 100』과 유사한 제목으로 출판이 이루어지는 추세이다. 본 연구는 원곡 『체르니 100번 연습곡(Op. 139)』에 내재된 다양한 연주 기술을 바탕으로 『간추린 체르니 100』 교재에 사용된 연습곡들의 연주 기술을 분석하여, 연주 기술을 고르게 다룰 수 있도록 선정되었는지 연습곡들의 빈도와 경향을 조사해 봄으로써, 피아노 지도자와 학습자들이 다양한 연주 기술을 효율적으로 선택하고 학습할 수 있는 자료를 제공하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 이를 위하여 연구 대상으로 선정된 7개 출판사의 총 45권 『간추린 체르니 100』 교재를 바탕으로, 원곡(Op. 139)에서 발췌된 연습곡들의 주요 연주 기술을 분석하고, 군집과 군집사이 혹은 군집과 개체 사이의 간격이 가장 긴 거리를 기준으로 군집 분류하는 최장 연결법(Complete Linkage Method)을 활용하여 ‘계층적 군집 분석’을 실시함으로써, 지도자 및 학습자에게 특정 연주기술별로 연주 기술을 강화 학습하거나 불필요한 반복 학습을 피하기 위한 악곡 선정을 유도하였다. 또한 ‘출판사별’, ‘출판 시기별’로 『간추린 체르니 100』 교재들을 분류하고, ‘카이제곱 검정’의 분석 도구를 이용하여 연주 기술과의 상관관계를 분석하였다. 마지막으로 『간추린 체르니 100』 교재의 출판 근거와 활용 실태를 조사하고자, 각 출판사의 편집 관계자와 현장에서 교육하고 있는 피아노 교사를 대상으로 인터뷰를 실시하였다. 위와 같은 방법으로 2014년 현재까지 약 30년 동안 『간추린 체르니 100』의 변화를 조사하고, 최근 교재들의 동향을 분석하여 피아노 지도자 및 학습자에게 활용 가능한 자료를 제공하는데 본 연구의 의의가 있다. 본 연구의 결론은 다음과 같다. 선정된 7개 출판사의 총 45권 『간추린 체르니 100』 교재에 사용된 연습곡들의 주요 연주 기술은 ‘레가토, 엄지손가락의 회전과 교체, 프레이징을 위한 손목 사용, 주요 3화음과 자리바꿈, 손의 확장과 축소’ 등이며, 이중 원곡 『체르니 100번 연습곡(Op. 139)』에 비하여 그 폭이 두드러지게 증가한 연주 기술은 ‘주요 3화음과 자리바꿈’이었다. 이 연주 기술은 원곡(Op. 139)에서는 100곡 중에서 31곡에 사용되었으나, 『간추린 체르니 100』 교재에서는 총 60곡 중에서 30곡이 발췌되어 사용됨으로써, 『간추린 체르니 100』 교재 안에서 차지하는 분포가 큰 폭으로 증가한 것이다. 따라서 현재 피아노 교육에서 반주에 관련한 연주 기술 습득이 중요하다는 사실을 보여주는 것이다. 또한 『간추린 체르니 100』에 사용된 연습곡들의 ‘계층적 군집 분석’을 실시하여, 특정 연주기술별로 강화 학습을 하고자 하였으나, 『간추린 체르니 100』 교재에 사용된 원곡(Op. 139)의 수가 60곡으로 감소함에 따라 군집별로 특정한 연주 기술이 드러나지 않았고, 연주 기술의 분포도 고르게 나타나지 않았다. 다음으로 ‘출판사별’, ‘출판 시기별’로 『간추린 체르니 100』 교재들을 분류하고, ‘카이제곱 검정’의 분석 도구를 이용하여 연주 기술과의 상관관계를 분석하였는데, 그 결과로 ‘출판사별’, ‘출판 시기별’과 ‘연주 기술은 연관이 있다. 라고 말할 수 없다‘라는 결론을 얻었다. 즉, 출판사마다 주력한 연주 기술이 있다거나, 시대별로 중요했던 특징이 있는 것이 아니라, 서로 비슷한 연주 기술을 재편집한 교재가 지금까지 이어져 왔다는 결과를 보여준 것이다. 마지막으로 『간추린 체르니 100』 교재의 출판 근거와 활용 실태를 조사하고자, 각 출판사의 편집 관계자와 피아노 교사를 대상으로 인터뷰를 실시한 결과로는 학습자들의 연령과 학습 기간의 단축으로 인한 『간추린 체르니 100』 교재의 출판계기를 알 수 있었고, 따라서 이를 해결 할 방안으로 쉬운 곡을 발췌하고, 곡의 수를 20-40곡으로 줄이는 등의 편집이 이루어 졌다는 분석을 얻을 수 있었다. 또한 『간추린 체르니 100』 교재를 사용하는 피아노 교사들은 각 연습곡마다 연주 기술을 선택적으로 활용 할 수 있도록, 새로운 개념의 연습곡집의 편찬을 『간추린 체르니 100』 교재가 발전해 나아가야 할 개선 방법으로 제시했다. 따라서 앞으로 발간되는 『간추린 체르니 100』 교재에는 본 연구에서 살펴보았던 28가지의 모든 연주 기술을 고르게 습득하고 강화 학습 할 수 있는 연습곡집으로 발전 할 수 있길 바란다. 이를 위하여 『간추린 체르니 100』 교재 뿐 아니라, 체르니의 다른 연습곡집과, 연습곡으로서 가치를 지니고 있는 다른 작곡가들의 활용 가능한 연습곡들을 연주 기술의 난이도 별로 분류하여 학습자와 지도자들이 선택적으로 연습곡을 학습 할 수 있길 기대한다.
