개인주의와 집단주의 문화성향이 친사회적 행동에 미치는 영향

Abstract

친사회적 행동(pro-social behaviors)은 ‘사회적 딜레마 상황’에서 개인에게 이익이 되지 않더라도 상대방을 돕거나 사회 전체에 이익이 되는 행동을 하는 것으로, 이러한 딜레마 상황에서 개인들은 전통적인 경제학의 예측과는 다르게 자신의 이익을 극대화하기 보다는 협력적인 행동을 하는 것이 기존의 실험 연구뿐만 아니라 일상생활 속에서도 발견된다. 이는 개인의 선호를 결정하는 요인이 이기심뿐만이 아니라 다양함을 의미하며 특히 사회적 선호의 내생적 형성은 사회규범의 내부화 과정과 연결되고 사람들은 성장하면서 다양한 경로로 사회화 과정을 겪으며 내면화된 사회규범은 자신의 사회적 행동에 영향을 준다. 본 연구는 친사회적 행동에 영향을 미치는 다양한 요인 중 문화적인 측면에 문제의식을 갖고, 특히 같은 문화권 내에서도 개인적 차이에 따라 집단주의와 개인주의 정도의 차이가 있을 수 있다는 Triandis의 관점에 초점을 맞춰 북한이탈 청소년들에게 Singelis, Triandis, Bhawuk와 Gelfand(1995)의 INDCOL (Individualism-Collectivism)을 김기범(1996)이 우리나라 판으로 표준화한 문화성향 질문지 척도를 통해 그들의 성향을 분별한 후, 단순한 1회 공공재 게임과 설문을 통해 친사회적 행동경향이 어떻게 나타나는지 확인하였다. 또 이를 남한 청소년과 비교하여 그 차이점을 찾고자 하였다. 문화성향 질문지 척도 확인 결과 북한이탈 청소년은 수평적 집단주의-수직적 집단주의- 수평적 개인주의-수직적 개인주의- 순으로 지지를 나타내고 있다. 집단주의와 개인주의로 구별할 경우 개인주의 보다는 집단주의 성향이 높게 나타나며, 수직적 성향과 수평적 성향으로 구별할 경우 수평적 성향이 높게 나타났다. 또 집단주의와 개인주의 성향 모두 북한이탈 청소년이 남한 청소년보다 강하게 나타났는데, 이 결과는 기존의 선행연구와 방향을 같이 하였다. 이러한 응답경향이 남북 청소년들의 배경변인에 따라 다르게 나타나는지 확인한 결과 성(性)과 남한정착기간에 따라서는 유의한 차이가 나타나지 않았으나 연령이 높을수록, 개인주의 성향보다는 집단주의 성향이 더 강해졌다. 또한, 북한이탈 청소년을 남한 청소년과 비교해보면, 양 집단 모두 개인보다 집단을 우선시하는 집단주의적 성향과, 수평적 성향이 우세하였지만 그 정도 면에서 북한이탈 청소년이 남한 청소년보다 집단주의와 개인주의 성향이 더 강하게 표출되었다. 이는 북한이탈 청소년들이 남한 사회에 비해 훨씬 조직화되고 집단주의적 성향을 강조하는 북한 사회에서 사회화되었으며, 탈북 과정을 겪으며 개인주의 성향이 강해졌기 때문인 것으로 보인다. 이는 남한정착기간이 길어질수록 개인주의 성향이 적어지는 것으로 확인할 수 있다. 단순한 1회 공공재 게임에서 공공 계좌에의 기여율로 사회적 선호를 측정한 결과, 모든 인간들은 완전하게 이기적이라는 주류 경제학의 인간에 대한 가정과는 다른 결과가 나타났다. 북한이탈 청소년 중 대부분의 학생들은 공공 계좌에 기여를 함으로써 사회적 선호를 가진 상호성에 기반을 둔 행동을 하였다. 수평적 집단주의-수직적 집단주의-수평적 개인주의-수직적 개인주의 순으로 평균 기여액이 높았으며, 개인주의 성향의 학생보다 집단주의 성향의 학생의 평균 기여액이 높았다. 이는 집단주의 성향이 강할수록 친사회적 행동 경향이 더 크게 나타남을 뜻한다. 집단주의와 개인주의 성향에서 수직적 성향보다는 수평적 성향을 띤 학생들의 평균 기여 금액이 대체로 더 높은 것은 서열이나 위계성을 바탕으로 수직적 교류를 하는 수직적 성향의 집단보다는 평등성을 바탕으로 수평적 교류를 하는 집단에서 친사회적 행동을 할 가능성이 크다는 것을 뜻한다.;Pro-social behavior the 'social dilemma situation' even if it is not in the interests of the private party help or actions that benefit society as a whole by giving individuals in this dilemma situation differently from the traditional economic forecasting to maximize their profits, rather than to cooperative behavior, as well as previous experimental studies can be found even in everyday life.
