영화 '물랭 루즈' 이미지의 패션 디자인 연구

Abstract

본 연구는 바즈 루어만(Baz Luhrmann) 감독이 프랑스 파리에 실존하는 클럽 '물랭 루즈'를 영상화한 시대극 영화 「물랭 루즈」의 극의 흐름에 따른 의상을 다루며 의상과 그 이미지의 표출을 연구하고, 이를 통해 도출된 이미지를 적용하여 여주인공 Satine 이미지의 패션 디자인을 창작하는데 목적을 두었다. 연구 방법은 2001년에 제작된 영화 「물랭 루즈」의 DVD 타이틀과 DVD 플레이어 프로그램인 Power DVD를 이용하여 순간 포착한 영상자료를 중심으로 의상과 그 이미지의 표출을 고찰하였다. 그러나 실제 의상이 아닌 순간 포착한 영상자료를 중심으로 연구하였기 때문에 의상을 세밀하게는 관찰할 수 없었으나, 물랭 루즈는 19세기 말의 프랑스의 대중문화를 잘 나타냈기 때문에 선택하였다. 이 영화로 아카데미 영화 의상상과 미술상을 수상한 디자이너 캐서린 마틴은 19세기 말 화가 툴루즈 로트렉이 물랭 루즈를 배경으로 그린 작품들에 나타난 무대복식을 토대로 영화의상으로써의 영상미를 위해, 당시의 무대복식과 비교하여 가슴을 많이 노출시켰고 당시 페티코트안의 드로어즈(drawers)의 길이는 무릎을 덮는 길이였으나, 영화 의상에서는 허벅지를 다 드러내는 정도의 짧은 길이로 제작되어 당시보다 노출이 과장된 좀 더 화려하고 현대적인 감각을 가미한 영화 의상으로 제작하였다. 당시의 물랭 루즈는 1899년을 배경으로 한 작품이라서 당시 복식은 S자형 실루엣이 유행한 아르누보 시대였다. 그러나 영화에서는 당시의 복식을 비교적 충실히 표현했으나 과장된 신체 노출과 원색의 색채가 당시의 복식과는 다르다고 볼 수 있다. 영화에서는 극이 전개되어가는 상황을 통해 의상에 따른 이미지를 알 수 있다. 영화에서 나타난 의상의 이미지를 살펴보면, 여주인공 Satine의 검은색 코르셋 스타일 무대복과 S자형 로브는 '섹시한', '강렬한' 이미지인 고혹적으로 화려함을 드러내는 에로틱한 이미지로 나타났다. Satine의 붉은색 S자형 로브는 '유혹'의 이미지와 사랑에 대한 '열정'의 이미지 표현에 사용되었다. Satine의 쉬크한 흰색 일상복의 S자형 스타일 투피스와 무대복에 나타난 깊게 파인 목선과 어깨선의 데콜테(de´collete´) 스타일의 S자형 로브는 '순결한', '순수한' 의 사랑의 이미지를 나타냈다. Satine의 파스텔 핑크색 실내복은 '여성스러운', '순수한'의 사랑의 이미지를 표현했고, Satine의 회색 S자형 테일러드 슈트는 '우울', 사랑의 감정 '후퇴'와 절제된 감정을 나타내는 이미지 표현에 사용되었다. 무희의 의상에서는 오리엔탈리즘의 영향으로 오렌지색과 녹색을 사용했고, 붉은색과 녹색의 보색대비 등을 사용하여 '선정적', '쾌락적'인 이미지를 표현했다. 의상형태와 소재 면에서 Satine의 일상복으로는 유기적인 곡선의 S자형 스타일의 테일러드 슈트, 가슴라인을 깊이 드러내어 강조하는 데콜테 스타일의 로브, 뷔스티에 탑과 종형 스커트, 시스루 가운과 기모노 슬리브의 실내복이 선보였다. 무대복식으로는 퇴폐와 향락적인 클럽에서의 무대복이라는 점에서 상체와 가슴의 노출이 심한 당시의 속옷이었던 코르셋과 같은 겉옷으로 향락적이고 과잉장식을 한 에로틱한 코르셋 스타일의 의상이 선보였다. 또한 무대복에 가터벨트, 망사 밴드 스타킹, 브래지어 탑과 시스루 소재 랩 스커트 등이 나타냈다. 의상은 새틴, 시폰, 레이스, 벨벳 등의 사용과 화려한 보석과 비즈, 모피와 자수로 화려함을 주었고 캉캉댄스를 추는 무희들은 오리엔탈리즘의 영향을 받은 원색의 색상의 여러 겹의 프릴 혹은 플라운스로 가득 장식한 티어드(tiered) 스커트와 가터벨트, 화려한 컬러 밴드 스타킹을 사용하여 퇴폐적이고 향락적인 분위기와 화류계에서 나타났던 의상의 형태를 표현하여 영화의상의 시각적인 면을 강조했다. 이상의 연구 내용을 토대로 여주인공 Satine이 물랭 루즈 무희라는 점에서 전체적으로 도회적인 에로티시즘을 표현하는 것을 기본으로 하고 에로티시즘이 쉬크(chic)한 우아미를 갖춘 면과 퇴폐적인 면의 두 부분으로 하여 graceful eroticism(le chic e´rotisme) 이미지와 prostitute eroticism(l'e´rotisme de la grande cocotte)을 이미지로 한 간단한 파티 웨어를 각각 한 벌씩 패션 디자인하고 실물 제작하였다. Satine의 graceful eroticism(le chic e´rotisme) 이미지를 테마로 창부이지만 우아하고 사랑의 열정을 소유한 쉬크(chic)한 이미지에 다른 창부와는 달리 신분 상승의 욕구를 갖고 있는 고급 창부의 우아한 Satine의 이미지를 표현하기 위해 광택있는 은회색의 실크(폴리우레탄 3%포함)를 소재로 캐미솔 네크라인의 슬립처럼 슬림한 실루엣의 쉬크한 칵테일드레스를 디자인하였다. 또한 여성스러움을 드러내는 아르누보 풍 유동적인 곡선을 위해서 바이어스 재단에 의한 언이븐 헴 라인으로 디자인하고 순결, 순수한 이미지를 나타내는 쉬크한 흰색 루시(ruche) 레이스 테이프로 헴 라인을 여러 단 덧대어 장식을 하고, 가슴을 강조하기 위해 루시(ruche) 레이스 테이프로 겹겹이 장식하였다. Satine의 prostitute eroticism(l'e´rotisme de la grande cocotte) 이미지를 테마로 창부로서 에로틱한 이미지의 Satine을 표현하기 위해 검은색의 폴리에스테르(폴리우레탄 8%포함)소재로 뷔스티에 상의와 언이븐 헴 라인(uneven hemline)이 특징인 스커트로 관능성을 표현하여 투피스를 디자인하였다. 상의 양 가슴부위의 핫픽스(hot-fix) 포인트 장식으로 화려함을 나타내었고 인조 가죽 끈으로 앞여밈 장식을 하여 에로틱한 이미지를 나타냈다. 스커트 안에 검은색 망사를 여러 겹 덧대어 부풀림을 주어 쾌락적 장식효과를 보였다. ;This research studied the costume and its image by a stream of a historical film 「Moulin Rouge」 which the director Baz Luhrmann filmed the club 'Moulin Rouge' that exists in Paris, France, and is on the purpose to create party wear of Satine's image. The study method is using DVD title「Moulin Rouge」produced in 2001 and the Power DVD - DVD player program and contemplating the costume and its image by the instantaneous capture one Visual Information from a motion picture mainly. Catherine Martin, who won the prize of the academy motion picture at the costume design and the art direction with this film, made the costume which is added more gorgeous and modern sense for the image beauty for costume in film from the costume design which appears in the art work of Toulouse-Lautrec- the artist of the end of a 19th century- painted Moulin Rouge. In the film, we can see the image of costume through the developing situation of a story. When it tries to observe the image of costume which appears from film, the black color corset and S-silhouette robe of heroine Satine was appeared erotic image which reveal fascinating gorgeousness, symbolized the image which is erotic and intense. The red color S-silhouette robe of Satine was used in an expression of image of the temptation and passion of love. The pastel pink color costume was used in an expression of feminine and pure. And the white color S-silhouette two-piece and decollete S-silhouette robe of Satine were used in the image of love of feminine and chic. The gray color tailored suit was used in an image expression to show 'depression', feelings 'withdrawal' of love and feelings abstained from. In the costume of dancers, it is expressed the image of erotic and pleasure by using vivid color which is influenced by orientalism. In the costume form, S-silhouette robe was appeared as usual garment and gorgeous corset style costume which is outer garment like underwear exposed of the body, pleasant apolaustic and decorated excessively was appeared for costume design. Based on the above research contents, the party wear of the graceful eroticism and the prostitute eroticism image of heroine Satine are designed, planned and made actually each image. To express the graceful eroticism image of Satine though a high-class prostitute, but who has a passion of love, it is designed cocktail dress with silver gray silk material. Also I have designed on the bias cut and asymmetry hem line. To express a chic image, I have decorated hem line with white ruch lace tape, and bust with many frills in order to accentuate. To express the prostitute eroticism image, and also I have designed a black bustier top and skirt with uneven hem line. The top has a special point in its bust with hot-fix in order to express fancy image, and in its front opening with poly leather tape in order to reveal erotic image. In addition it is designed skirt with black net fabric to express pleasure.
