복식의 Bisexuality에 관한 연구

Abstract

본 논문은 1960년데 이후 복식에서 보여진 바이섹슈얼(bisexual) 경향에 관한 연구를 목적으로 유니섹스 룩(unisex look), 앤드로지너스 룩(androgynous look), 펑크룩(punk look) 그리고 포스트모던 양상으로 나누어, 그것이 가지는 내적 의식구조에 관해 고찰하였다. 1960년대 이후 부각되는 페미니즘은 남성과 똑같은 평등을 누리기 위한 투쟁을 목표로 하였으나, 70년대 이후 물질문명에 대한 반성과 소외된 집단들에 대한 관심이 집중되면서, 남성과 여성은 반드시 '성에 따른 차이'를 갖는 것이 아니라 '개인에 따른 차이'를 갖는다는 양성주의적 시각으로 전환되었다. 이후 페미니즘 시각은 기존의 가부장적인 사회가 여성뿐만 아니라 결국 남성들까지도 소외시키면서 삶의 영역을 축소 시키는 결과를 가져왔음을 보이면서 남성과 여성의 새로운 관계 규명을 위한 해석에 몰입했다. 또한 1960년대 등장하기 시작하는 포스트모더니즘은 아직까지도 불확정적인 의미로써 혼돈적인 양상을 보이고 있으나 '타자', 즉 기존 사회에서 소외된 집단에 대한 특별한 인식체계를 가지면서, 전쟁 이후 확대되고 있었던 페미니즘 운동에 가세하면서 복합적인 관계를 형성했다. 즉 '남성과 세계', '여성과 세계'가 아닌 '인간 과 세계'라는 인식의 전환으로, 함께 이루는 공동사회의 필요성을 주장한다. 이러한 경향은 우선 1960년대 이후 젊은이들이 기존의 틀을 탈피하고자 하는 반문화적 행위속에 형성되고, 남녀 모두가 자신의 성을 초월하여 무한한 자유를 성취하고자 하는 새로운 패션 경향은 공통적 유대감을 만들었다. 양쪽 성에게 한 시대속에 함께 서있어야 한다는 필연적 당면 과제를 부여하게 되고, 1980년대 이후 표면적으로 나타나는 포스트모더니즘의 다원주의적 현상은 그 범위를 확장시켜 복식에 있어 성의 초월뿐만 아니라 계급, 연령, 시대를 공간적 시간적으로 초월하려는 의지를 표출하고 있다. 이러한 의지들을 표현하고 있는 바이섹슈얼 복식을 유니섹스 룩, 앤드로지너스 록, 펑크 룩 그리고 포스트모던 양상으로 나누어 살펴본 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 유니섹스 룩은 남녀가 같은 복식을 입어 성을 초월한 인간의 적극적 자유에 접근하고 있다. 60년대 전반에 걸친 미래에 대한 노스텔지어의 이상으로 남녀가 동일한 아이템의 복식을 착용함으로써 강한 공감대를 형성했다. 유니섹스 룩에서 현대패션으로 정착된 아이템은 블루진과 티셔츠이며, 남성의 장식화 경향, 여성의 팬츠 착용은 기존의 성질서에 도전하여 성차를 인식하지 않고 각자의 개성에 따라 마음대로 옷을 입을 수 있는 자유를 획득한다. 둘째, 앤드로지너스 룩은 신화적인 존재인 하나의 완벽한 전체성(wholeness), 즉 남성성과 여성성의 합일채를 이루고자 하여 오히려 크로스 오버된 복식 아이템과 메이크 업을 시도했다. 남성은 액세서리를 과장되게 사용하고, 반면 여성은 남성적인 복식, 넥타이와 딱딱한 팬츠 슈트를 착용하는 형태로 나타났다. 이것은 70년대 초 팝 스타들의 무대에서 먼저 보여지며 80년대 초에 다시 재현되어 매니시 룩으로 일반 복식에 확대되었다. 셋째, 펑크 룩은 그들의 사회에 대한 강력한 반발의식을 복식에 투영하였으며 이러한 배경에서 형성된 강력한 집단의식은 남녀가 성별과 상관없이 파괴하는 것을 최우선 과제로 삼아 혼돈적인 양상의 복식을 수용하는 형태로 나타났다. 그들은 하나된 인간의 공동체의 모습으로 사회와 대치하였고, 기존의 미의식에서 벗어난 펑크의 창조적인 발상은 스트리트 패션에서 시작되어 거꾸로 하이패션에 영향력을 주어 뉴 웨이브 패턴(New wave fashion) 의 원천이 되고 있다. 펑크의 대중화된 디테일로는 칼라나 어깨, 소매부분에 메탈이 박힌 지퍼달린 검정 가죽 재킷, 몸에 꽉 끼는 찢어진 팬츠, 안전핀, 목끈, 상징적인 휘장의 착용, 분장과 같이 과장된 메이크 업, 모히칸 헤어스타일 등이 있다. 넷째, 포스트모던 양상은 현대 사회 문화 전반을 휩쓸고 있어 아직 뚜렷이 정의내릴 수는 없으나 탈중심주의, 이분법의 파괴, 다원주의, 해체주의를 수용하면서 강력한 힘을 갖는 포스트모더니즘 시각을 반영하고 있다. 이것은 복식에 있어 대립적인 개념을 절충적으로 동시에 수용함으로써 시간적 공간적 초월을 시도하고 있는데, 그것은 디자인·소재·색채 입는 방법에 이르기까지 다양하고 복합적인 요소의 변형으로, 구체적으로는 복고와 노스텔지아, 동양적인 것과 서양적인 것이 혼합되어 성이 해체된 복식속에 나타나며 유니섹스와 앤드로지너스, 펑크의 요소가 포함되기도 한다. 바이섹슈얼 복식은 남성과 여성으로써가 아닌 하나된 인간 공동체로서 급속히 변화하는 세계속에 위기에 몰린 주체의식을 회복하여 대처하고자 하는 인간의 근원적 내적 욕구의 반영으로 볼 수 있으며, 페미니즘과 포스트모더니즘의 표출로써 '자유' 에 대한 의지를 반영하고 있다. 바이색슈얼 복식의 내적 의식구조는 첫째, 다양화된 현대사회에서 요구되는 새로운 인간형의 추구, 즉 성차없는 협력된 공동체 의식과 둘째,다원주의적인 현대사회의 해체(deconstruction)와 재건(reconstruction)의 공존에서 오는 불안으로 집약해서 지적할 수 있다.;This study is an indepth analysis of the conscionsness structured in unisex, androgyny, punk and postmodernism fashion in order to explain the dominant bisexual trend since the 1960's. Bisexuality in fashion can be interpreted as an effort in recovering the attitude within commentarialism, as opposed to the dichotomous split of the sexes. It is a reflection of the fundamental desire to be as one and furthermore bisexuality inplies "freedom" as an expression of feminism and postmodernism. Since the 60's Feminism has been equivalent to a war waged on behalf of equal rights for women, however, since the 70's attention has been focused on reparations of the materialistic society and culture, thus the alienated groups have been the main subject. Henceforth, "the difference of the sexes" is replaced by "differences of personality" and the bisexual movement is born. Feminism since bisexuality claims that the patrimonial society brings, to men and women alike, an alienation and reduction of bring scope that needs to be addressed in line with a new relational definition between the sexes. Postmodernism which still remains an abstract entity, began it's roots in the 1960's with a distinctive approach to the perception of the alienated in society and greatly expanded it's horizons after the vietrarn war while joining forces with the feminist movement. The complexity of the new relational concept is simply a "human-world" approach as opposed to the "man and the world" and "woman of the world" These movements first took root in the anti cultural demonstrations of radical student movements in the 1960's. Since then, fashion which supercedes the sexes in achieving higher levels of freedom was crucial to the establishment of solidarity. Both sexes were enlightened to the fact that coexistence was mandatory in this era. The 1980's brought on the Postmodernistic pluralism, expanding it's influences to include not only the overcoming of sexual difference but also differences in class, age, era and space. Bisexuality in fashion observed on the basis of Unisex, Androgynous, Punk and Postmodernism can be summarised in the following statements. First, Unisex implres a positive freedom by overcoming sexual differences in dressing men and women in like fashion. Second, Androgyny is in contrast to the neutrality of Unisex, a search for wholeness. Thus this look is an overall effect of the complex union of men and women's wear, plus the cross-over fashion items and make-up. Third, Punk style can be summarized as a strong anti-social remark. They are aggressive in their approach, thus the total disintegration of the sexual images is a first priority task for the punk style in fashion. Fourth, Postmodernism is such a vast and abstract movement that exact definitions are not yet plausible however, the decentralization, disintegration of the dichotomy, pluralism and deconstructionism introduced in fashion can be identified as an effort to achieve an eclecticism of complex and conflicting concepts. It is virions methods changing of design, material, color and fashion coordination at different levels and concerning many variables, also including the unisex, androgynous and punk modes. Bisexuality is a reactionary movement in fashion which encompasses adaptive ways to the world we now inhibit. It is also a clear picture of the necessity of destroying the dichotomous sexuality in order to achieve freedom and the importance of realizing as a whole the one-ness of human kind. Bisexuality in fashion in primarily in pursuit of a new perspective on the human entity required in the modern world. Namely a communitarian spirit devoid of sexual prejudices. And secondly, it is a phenomena reflecting the transitional woes of the pluralistic society experiencing deconstruclivism and reconstructivism.
