무용에 있어서 상징의 중요성에 관한 연구

Abstract

본 논문은 무용예술에서 상징이 어떻게 사용되고 있으며 그렇게 수용된 상징지거 요소들이 중요성을 갖게 되는가를 밝히는데 그 목적이 있다. 이 연구에 있어 전제로 삼는 것은 상징이 어떤 예술분야에 있어서나 다 사용되고 있으며 특히 무용에 있어서 제의적 성격, 신화를 통해 나타난 상징적, 상징성을 지닌 가면을 이용함으로써 종합적인 성격을 보유하고 있다는 점이다. 원시사회로부터 인간은 자신의 능력을 초월한 것에 대해 숭배하고 제의를 통해 이를 극복하려 했으며 신화나 가면 또한 상징을 통해 그 위치를 확고히 하였다. 무용은 이런 제의성, 신화, 가면 모두를 포함하고 었었으므로 상징과 밀접한 연관을 갖는다는 것을 추론해 볼 수 있겠다. 무용에 나타난 상징성을 분석하기 위해 첫째 상징의 일반적 개념 및 종종학적 입장에서 본 문화상징·미학적, 예술적 입장에서 본 예술상징·무용상징의 측면으로 범위를 좁혀가며 알아 보았다. 둘째로 무용상징의 의미와 특성을 통해 제의적 상징성, 신화에 나타난 상징성, 가면의 상징성이 무용에 어떻게 취해졌는가를 알아 보았다. 그리고 마지막으로 구체적 작품을 통해 상징이 나타나는 예를 살펴보았다. 이상의 내용들을 통해서 분화상태인 다른 예술과의 접목과 그 가능성을 타진해 볼 수 있겠고 상징이라는 요소를 취해 무용의 기원에서부터 오늘날에 이르기까지의 성장을 되돌아 볼 수 있겠다. 결국 상징은 무용과 대부분 공존해왔고 항상 중요성을 갖고 사용되어 왔음은 주지의 사실이다.;The purpose of the present thesis is to clarify how symbols are utilized in dance and whether such symbolic elements applied in dance have importance. What is established as a premise in the present study is that symbols are used in any field of art, and in particular, by utilizing ritual character, the symbolic nature in dance, the symbol retains a synthetic character. From primitive society man has worshipped what transcends human power, and through rituals, man has tried to overcome that, thereby confirming a human position through myths, masks, and symbols as well. Since dance includes such aspects of a ritual character, myths, and masks, it can be inferred that dance has a close relationship with symbols. In order to analyze the symbolic character appeared in dance, in the first place, symbols have been studied with reference to the common concept of symbols, cultural symbols seen in an ethnical situation and artistic symbols seen in an aesthetic or artistic situation, finally narrowing the scope of symbols in the aspect of dance symbols. In the second place, through a review of the significance and characteristics of dance symbols, it has been studied how the symbolic nature of rituals, the symbolic nature appeared in myths, and the symbolic nature of masks are treated in dance, And finally, the cases that symbols represent through concrete works have been searched in the study. Based on the contents studied so far, it is deemed to percuss the grafting of symbols with other arts in a specialized state and its possibility and to look back all the growth of dance which has applied symbolic elements from the origin of dance to the present. After all, it is a matter of common knowledge that symbols has coexisted with dance and has been used for their significance.
