조택원의 예술세계에 관한 연구

Abstract

무용사에서의 하나의 조류라 볼 수 있는 신무용과 신무용의 선구자라고 할 수 있는 조택원에 대한 연구는 상당한 정도로 이루어지고 있다. 그럼에도 불구하고, 다시 신무용과 조택원에 대하여 연구하는 이유는 보다 다각적이며 종합적 시각의 연구가 이루어 질 때, 보다 큰 발전을 꾀할 수 있다는 의미에서이다. 이것은 비단 예술가 한 사람에 대해서 심도 있는 연구를 한다는 것보다 우리나라 무용의 과거와 현재, 그리고 미래에의 길을 연결, 발전적인 방향을 조망하는 데 도움을 주리라고 보기 때문이다. 이러한 시각에 서서 본 논문은 신무용의 올바른 개념정립과 조택원의 예술적 미의식 및 신무용가ㆍ창작무용가로서의 그의 위상과 예술적 특징을 밝히고자 하였다. 이러한 의도하에 제2장에서는 신무용의 개념을 분석하고 그 태동과 전개과정을 밝혀 무용사에서의 신무용의 올바른 위치를 논의하여 보았다. 제3장에서는 조택원의 무용인생과 신무용가·창작무용가로서의 행로 및 업적을 살폈다. 제4장에서는 조택원의 작품을 분석하고 또한 시대적 상황에서 표출 되어지는 미적 정서를 살펴 그가 가진 예술적 특징을 고찰하였다. 무용으로 일생을 보낸 조택원은 일제통치하라는 시대적 상황에서 조선의 무용과 그의 예술세계를 체계화하려고 힘썼다. 그는 자신의 예술의 방향성을 민족의 혼의 재현이라는 민족의식과 새로운 시대의 예술을 창조해 나가는 창조의식에서 찾고자 하였다. 또한 당시의 비무대적 요소를 탈피하여 무용을 무대화함으로 <보여주는 춤>으로의 전환과 재래의 기교를 보다 과학적 측면으로 체계화하므로 전근대적 무용에서 근대적인 무용으로 변화되는 길을 여는 신무용가ㆍ창작무용가로서의 위치를 가진다고 할 수 있겠다. 조택원은 주체적 창작과정을 거쳐 재창조된 무용을 세계에 널리 선보여 세계의 문화와 우리의 문화를 결합시키는 공헌을 하였다. 결론적으로 조택원은 격변기의 시대속에 개성적 그리고 시대 상응적인 예술관을 가지고 신무용을 주도한 개척자로서 현대의 춤을 행하는 자들에게 창작화 과정의 기틀을 마련하여 주었으며 현시대에서 정립되어야 할 주관적 예술관 및 재창조 작업에의 길을 제시하는 공헌을 남겼다고 할 수 있겠다.;May be extracted from the New Dance that comes under a meaning of Western dance and also can be defined as a new dance contrasted to the traditional folk dance two points that it is a dance assumed the stage, and that it bright forth the initiation of the creative operation of Korean dance to contribute to the modernization of the dance culture of our country. The concept of 'new dance' as a term borrowed from Japen first emerged in our country througn a performance which held by Bakku Jshie, a Japanese, in October, 1926. Thus, the year of 1926 may be seen an intial point of our new dance. Born in May 22, 1907, Tackwon Cho first greatly impressed by the performance of Bakku Jshie, and, then, came under the guidance of him managing a status as a new dancer. After five years of receiving lessons from him, he was enough developed to exhibit his first and second performances, and, at last he hs done many a creative activity including sixteen times of work performances. The artistic world of him, though employing Western materials, ever starts from his own philosophy and interpretation of national consciousness in respect to theme-descriptive spirit and approaching. Passed nearly half century in the circle of dance, he once experienced in Europe for so many years; when he recreated our traditional dance to have it publicly known showing a packing effect of both cultures of world's and ours. On the other hand, his gradual close-approaching to Korean unique beauty of national emotion has thrown all the preceded general comments of referring to him as a spirit of light touch and movement present in to the shade. His representative works may include 'Kashahojup', 'Hark', and 'Choonhyangchokok'. Cho, Taek-won has beared a great part in establishing correctly the position of our new dance as a stream of our history of dance in the radioal and whole-transformational circumstances from the gre-modern society to the modern society ;he has created an individualistic and time-responsive world of dance in the complex relations between an individual emotion and the other emotion of feeling responsibility to have to participate in the flow of history ; thus, he teaches us in connection with our required proper establishment of a dance view which may well satisfy the need of time. Rewarded of Prizes by Seoul City the Academy of Cultural Art, and the Prize of an order of Cultural Art, and the Prize of an Order of Cultural Merits named Golden Crown 1st, h lived kepping his pride as an artist of dance until his death from cancer in June 8, 1976; he is worthy to be said a rider and a witness solely taken the lead in fifty years of the history of New Dance.
