Abstract
Experiments have been made to detect the glycolic acid oxidase and glyoxylic acid reductase in germinating seeds of peanuts and peas, and to study the enzymatic development during the germination period with the purpose of obtaining a further correlation between the physiological process and the enzymatic reaction. The results of the experiment with the soluble fraction of germinating seeds have affirmed presence of glycolic acid oxidase and glyoxylic acid reductase, and also suggesred evidence of the occurrence of the glyoxylate cycle. The activities of two enzymes in dry seeds were absent or negligible, but they have remarkably increased after radicle emergence up to the 8th day of germination. The enzyme activities of pea seeds have always shown considerably higher than those of peanut seeds. And the glyoxylic acid reductase activities have shown to be almost four times higher than glycolic acid oxidase activities.
