Abstract
This study attempts to explore the relationships among defensive behavior, self-acceptance, and adjustment through The testing of the assumed hypothesises on relationships among them. The hypothesis were assumed as follows. - hypothesis Ⅰ - There will be a significant differences on the scores of self-acceptance behavior, depending on the patterns of defonsive behavior. - hypothesis Ⅱ - There will be a significant difference on the levels of adjustment, depending on patterns of defensive behavior. In order to measura self-accoptance, and defensive behavior, Self-Acceptance Test and Acceptability Situation Judgemant Scala were developed and applied by author, and Standarized Adjustment Test was used for measuring adjustment. The 201 male and female subjects were sampled from two junior & senior high schools in Seoul. Acceptability Situation Judgement Scale and Standardized Adjustment Test were administered to the same subjects after two weeks interval. The results showed that there were significant differences on the average scores of self-acceptance between two groups of over and under defensive response patterns. That is, overly defensive responses showed high self acceptance scores and vice versa. Therefore hypothesis I was accepted at the 0.1 % level significance. Secondly, significant defferences on the averages scores of adjustment between two groups of over and under defensive response patterns ware resulted. In other words, group of overly defensive responses was low on the adjustment means. Therefore, hypothesis I was also accepted. Otherwise, further analysis of the above findings were made, that is; (1) the relationships between self acceptance and adjustment were explored, then correlation coefficient (r) between them was -.327. The present results imply that the students of high scores on self acceptance test have more difficulties in adjustment than those lower on self acceptance level. Then the results also gave us plausible evidence for supporting the hypothesis Ⅱ, (2) togathers with Testing above hypothesis, some other studies were followed. First, posittve relationship of r=.423 was found between self acceptance behavior and Acceptability tendancy of situation. It's implications suggested that the man who was at high salf acceptance also stands high on situational acceptance level. Second, the study on relationships between environmantal factors and defensive response showed that tho group standing high on defensive behavior level showed that the group standing high on defensive behavior level showed high standing on impulsiveness, while the group standing low on defensive behavior showed high standing on orderness.
