의사소통교육의 실태조사 및 개선책에 대한 연구

Abstract

During the last, decade Korean educational authorities have tried to change the way of English teaching in secondary schools from grammar-centered teaching to communication-based teaching. To this end, English textbooks have been revised containing more sample sentences having communicative value rather than linguisic signification and more conversation drills. The Nationwide English Listening Test is another visible effort to achieve the newly stressed ultimate aim of teaching and learning English. The results estimated for the present, however, do not seem so fruitful because of many obstacles that need to be settled in the communicative teaching of English in this country. The barriers can be summarized as follows: 1. Too many contents of textbooks; 2. Insufficient, supply and use of audio-visual teaching aids; 3. Big classes; 4. Grammar-centered entrance examination, especially for a university; 5. Shortage of teachers capable of teaching hot to communicate in English instead of teaching how to analyze linguistic items of English; In order to solve such problems as stated above and to improve the communicative education of the English language, the following suggestions are made in this thesis: 1. Division of the English testbook into three branchbooks: reading, writing, and listening and speaking. 2. Utilzation of the audo-visual teaching aids and establishment of English laboratories in each school. 3. Reconsideration of the entrance examination system: Entrance examination for a university should include a listening test, also. 4. Development of English teachers in-service training through various channels. 5. Specialization of training English teachers by introducing intensive language training course and the enforcement of the qualifying examination for the teacher's license.;세계속의 한국이라는 국가위상의 부상과 함께 점차 국제사회로의 진출이 활발해짐에 따라 특히 중·고등학교에서의 영어교육은 이론적인 학문으로서가 아니라 실제생활에 활용가치가 있는 산 언어교육으로서 재확립되어야 할 필요가 있다. 이러한 의식에서 비롯하여 요즈음 강조되고 있는 듣기·말하기 중심의 영어교육은 여러 가지 형태로 그 노력을 경주하고 있으나 긍정적인 성과를 거두기에는 우리의 교육현장에 아직도 많은 문제들이 산재하고 있다. 본 연구에서는 보다 바람직한 영어의 의사소통교육을 위한 개선책을 제시하기 위해 의사소통 중심의 외국어교육이론들에 대한 고찰과 함께 일선의 영어교사들을 대상으로 설문조사를 실시하였다. 연구 결과, 교과서의 과다분량, 시청각자료의 보급과 활용부족, 과밀학급, 문법위주의 입시제도, 교사의 자질 등이 타개되어야 할 문제들로 지적되었다. 그 중에서도 특히 우수한 교사의 양성과 현직교사의 재교육은 가장 우선되어야 할 중요한 문제로 대두된다. 영어의 의사소통교육이 활성화되기 위해서는 제반 교육환경의 개선은 물론, 실현 가능한 의사전달수업모형의 개발과 제시, 그리고 우수한 교사의 확보를 위한 교사의 질적 통제방안이 강화되어야 하겠다.
