Kenneth MacMillan의 안무성향에 관한 연구

Abstract

모든 인류의 활동은 항상 앞선 시대의 활동을 그 유산으로 계승하면서도 새로운 길을 모색해 나간다. 이러한 변증법적인 활동의 결과가 인류의 역사이며, 또한 발전의 원리이다. 예술활동에 있어서도 20세기로 접어들면서 발레계에 새로운 방향을 모색하고자 하는 움직임이 있었고 이를 바탕으로 Modern Ballet가 싹트게 되었다. 20세기 Modern Ballet발전에 기여한 인물들 중의 하나가 Kenneth MacMillan이다. 그는 영국의 Royal Ballet에서 교육받은후 무용수, 안무가, 예술감독으로 활동하면서 세계적인 영향력을 발휘하였으며 60여편의 작품을 창작하였다. 불우한 가정환경에서 성장하였고 유년시절에 제2차 세계대전을 겪으면서 그는 일찍이 인생의 슬프고 어두운 면에 눈뜨게 되었으며 이러한 경험은 그의 인간애라는 독특한 예술세계를 결정하는 중요한 요인이 되었다. 본 연구는 Kenneth MacMillan의 생애와 예술활동을 살펴봄으로써 그의 작품에 나타난 안무성향과 Modern Ballet에 미친 영향을 고찰하는데 목적이 있으며 그 연구결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, Kenneth MacMillan은 동시대의 문학에 근거를 두고 소외, 사랑과 성, 전쟁과 죽음. 역사적 인물등 인간내면의 갈등과 당대의 사회적 문제들을 깊이 탐색함으로써 발레에 동시대적 주제성을 제시하였다. 둘째, 그는 발레의 다양한 형식을 시도하면서 특히 현대적 3막발레를 발전시켰고 명백한 구성을 지닌 극적발레 (Dramatic Ballet)를 발전시켰다. 셋째. 고전발레기법에 기초를 둔 현대적인 움직임의 개발로 표현주의적이고 심리학적인 안무를 시도함으로써 고전기법을 변형, 확장하여 발레의 현대화에 성공하였다. 넷째, 각 분야별 예술인들과의 협동작업을 중요시하여, 무용수에게 독자적인 해석의 기회를 부여하였고 현대의 음악과 미술을 그의 주제와 안무에 적절히 조화시켰다. 다섯째, Royal Ballet의 감독으로서 Repertory를 고전에서 현대계열까지 다양화시켜 영국발레를 세계적인 수준으로 이끌었을 뿐만 아니라, 20세기 Modern Ballet를 주도하는 세계적인 안무가로서 일익을 담당하고 있다.;All human activities always try to find a new wat although they also succeed those of prior period as its inheritance. This dialectic result of activities is the very history of man and the principle of development. In artistic activities since the 20th century, there has been a movement to look for a new direction in ballet and it caused modern ballen to be born. Kenneth MacMillan, a great dancer of the 20th century from England learned ballet at Royal Ballet. He acted as a dancer, choreographer and artistic director having great influenced on the world ballet, and created 60 works of ballet. He, who brought up at a poor home and underwent World War Ⅱ, became earlier aware of the grievous and dark side of life than others. Such experience fook a very important role in deciding the unique artistic world of his own, that is, humanism This study is for the purpose of investigating what is MacMillan's propensity to choreograph and what influence he had on Modern Ballet by the consideration on his life and artistic activities. And the results are as follows, First, he introduced the contemporaries with literature into the ballet and thus seeked after such inner conflicts of humanbeing's as alienation, love and and sex, war and death, and historic figures. So he suggested contemporary subjects to the ballet. Second, attemping to create various forms of ballet, he developed in particular three-act ballet and dramatic one having definite plot. Third, he was able to varify and extend classic technique by creating modern movement and then attempting at expressionist and psychological choreograph. Fourth, he regarded cooperative working with other artistic in another fields as important. It made him provide dancers with the chances to interpret a ballet in their own ways and harmonized modern music and painting with his themes and choreography. Fifth, as a director of Royal Ballet, he varified its repertory from classic to modern, which resulted in leading ballet of England to that of the world. Like this, he has played an important role as a world's great choreographer who leads the ballet of the 20th century.
