효율적인 영어학습 도구로서의 VTR 기재 사용에 대한 연구

Abstract

A Teaching method which can develope communication skills has been an important issue in English language teaching. To approach this aim, we must consider effective usage of many teaching aids, including instructional television. Television is one of the most effective communication divices and has been made more important with the development of the video tape recorder. The main concern of this thesis is to consider the advantages of television and the VTR as instructional devices and to find the way how to use them most productively in the middle school language classroom. Although television is one of the most effective media, there are some difficulties utilizing it in the classroom, namely in the system of broadcasting. The many necessary facts of telecasting such as air time, length, and repeat broadcasts are not suitable to the classroom environment, so these problems should be resolved in such a way to provide convenient utilization in class. However, A more economical solution is the VTR. The VTR can help decrease these difficulties because of its capability of recording or editing. In chapter one of this thesis, instructional technology in English language teaching is discussed. In chapter two, the importances and capabilities of audio-visual aids in English language teaching are examined. The characteristics of television as an educational medium are also explained. In chapter three, the capabilities of the VTR in English language teaching are examined. The VTR is an abvious medium for helping students to interpret visual, clues effctively because it can treat the paralinguistic features of communication such as gestures attitudes and environments. The purpose of a video program is to present a context in which a students can infer for himself what he needs to know about. the language. The video program would serve to build the student's confidence and familiarity with the physical and psychosocial aspects of a foreign language environment. Through a questionaire, it became clear that most middle school English teachers and students want to use a VTR in their English classroom. The conclusion of this thesis is that the VTR can and should be used in language classroom as an useful medium to enable effective communication.;외국어교육의 목표 중 하나가 그 목표어로 의사소통을 할 수 있고 목표어의 문화를 이해할 수 있도록 하는 것임을 생각할 때, 실제적인 의사소통을 가능하게 하는 교수 방법은 무엇보다도 중요한 것이다. 이러한 과제의 해결을 위해서는 심리적, 인지적 측면에서의 교수법의 개발도 필요하지만 교육 산업의 확대로 널리 보급되어 있는 다양한 교수 매체들을 효율적으로 사용할 수 있어야 할 것이다. 현재의 다양한 교수 매체들 가운데 하나인 VTR(Videotape Recorder)이 가지고 있는 교육적 잠재력을 이론적으로 고찰해 보고 그 활용 가능성을 찾는 데 본 논문의 목적이 있다. 이러한 목적에 따라 본 논문에서는 다음과 같은 내용을 서술하였다. 첫째, 영어교육의 과학화를 위해 교육공학을 도입해야 한다는 것으로 다양한 매체들의 효율적인 사용과 그 효과에 대한 관심이 필요하다는 의견을 제기하였다. 둘째, 영어교육에 있어서 시청각 자료의 중요성과 그 기능을 알아보고, 효과적인 교수 매체로서의 ITV의 교육적 기능과 텔레비전의 수업도입을 가능케 하는 VTR기재에 대해 설명하였다. 세째, VTR이 영어학습에 있어서 어떠한 역할을 하는가를 문헌 연구를 통해 조사하였다. 즉, 상황 설정에 관련된 역할과 비언어적인 요소들을 전달하는 문화적 이해라는 측면에서의 역할이 그것이다. 넷째, 실제적인 조사, 분석으로 서울 시내 42개 중학교의 영어교사 42명을 대상으로 질문지 조사를 통해 VTR에 대한 영어교사들의 태도를 알아 보았고 학생들의 태도조사는 5개 중학교의 2, 3학년 각 1개반 (2학년 270명, 3학년 313명)을 대상으로 질문지 조사를 실시하였다. 조사결과에 따르면 대부분의 학교에 VTR이 설치되어 있으나 적절한 Videotape이 구비되어 있지 않고 학습진도상의 문제등으로 적극적으로 활용되고 있지 않은 실정이다. 학생들의 VTR기재에 대한 반응은 효과가 있을 것이라고 기대하는 긍정적인 입장이 지배적인 것으로 나타났다. 이상에서 살펴본 바에 의하면 VTR기재는 텔레비전의 놀랄만한 교육적 잠재력을 교실로 이끌어 들일 수 있는 훌륭한 영어학습도구로 활용될 수 있으며, 효율적인 의사소통을 가능하게 하는 강력한 교수 매체가 될 수 있다는 결론을 내릴 수 있다.
