한국 무용계에 나타난 페미니즘성향에 관한 연구 : 1990년대를 중심으로

Abstract

페미니즘의 생명력은 길다. 한 시대를 풍미하고 사라지는 다른 이념들과는 달리 곧 21세기를 맞이하게 될 오늘날까지 그 움직임이 시들 기미를 보이지 않고 있다. 그만큼 페미니즘이란 세계인구의 절반을 차지하는 여성들에게 진정한 인간으로 살아가기 위한 절실한 사상인 것이다. 여성에 대한 ‘남존여비(男尊女卑)’사상이 뿌리깊은 박혀있는 우리 나라에서는 적극적인 사회활동을 하거나 정치, 또는 공직에 직접 참여하고 있는 여성의 비율은 극히 미미하며, 태아의 성감별 같은 비윤리적인 처사는 지금도 어디 선가 은밀히 자행되고 있다. 인간의 희로애락을 표현하고 사회현실을 반영하는 춤에서 여성의 고뇌를 말한다는 것은 당연한 일이다. 그러나 우리 춤계의 사정은 본격적인 페미니즘 작가라고 말할만한 무용가나 공연히 흔하지 않았다. 따라서 본 논문은 1990年代에 한국에서 공연된 작품(作品)을 조사하고 그 속에 나타난 페미니즘 성향을 고찰해 보았고, 그 배경 연구로 페미니즘의 개념과 사상적 특성을 살펴보았다. 또한 페미니즘이 한국 무용계에서 어떤 기반으로 갖고 공연 되어졌는지를 알아보기 위해 이사도라 던컨으로부터 시작된 서양무용예술의 경우와 배구자로부터 시작된 우리 나라 춤의 경우로 나누어 살펴보았다. 그리고 우리 나라의 페미니즘이 식민지시대와 분단 그리고 민주화운동으로 이어지는 사회적, 민족적 현실을 안고 어떻게 전개되어 왔는지를 연구했다. 1990년대의 한국 무용계가 어떠한 방향으로 흘러가고 있으며 그 안에서 페미니즘 공연이 어떻게 이루어지고 있는가를 연구해 보았다. 따라서 위의 조사를 토대로 마지막 장에서는 정신대 이야기를 소재로 가부장제 이데올로기에 희생된 한국 여인들의 비극적 현실을 그린 임학선의「나무 비」와 평범한 가정주부가 자아에 눈 떠가는 과정을 그린 박명숙의 「혼자 눈뜨는 아침」, 현실을 수용하면서도 그 안에서 안주하지 않고 조금씩 변혁해 나가고자 하는 한 여성의 의지를 그린 김 순정의 「머물며」를 비디오분석과 작품에 발표된 평문조사를 통해 페미니즘 요소를 연출하고 페미니즘공연으로서의 특성을 연구했다. 그 결과, 한국 무용계에 나타난 페미니즘적 성향은 첫째, 우리 민족의 식민지 시대를 거친 특수한 역사적 배경과 가부장적 전통이 확고한 사회적 현실 속에 정신대 문제와 가정내의 여성문제를 작품의 주제에 많이 반영하였다. 둘째, 작품에 나타나는 여성의 이미지는 마냥 순응적이지만은 않고 남성중심 사회에 대항에 적극적이고 주체적으로 자신의 삶을 개척해 나가는 모습을 보여주었다. 셋째, 무대 장치나 소품에 있어서 여성을 떠올릴 수 있는 구두나, 거울 인형 옷 등의 상징적인 장치들을 활용하였다. 본 논문은 1990년대에 한국에서 공연된 페미니즘 공연을 연구함으로써 무용인구의 절대다수를 차지하는 무용인 들에게 여성적 관점을 적극 수용하는 진보(進步)와 연대(聯隊)의 힘을 실어주고 한국 무용계의 페미니즘 공연 활성화를 통해 이 땅의 여성과 모든 사람들에게 널리 확산(擴散)시켜 여성발전을 앞당기는데 조금이라도 도움이 되었으면 한다. ; The feminism seems to be lasting. Not like other ideologies dominating once and vanishing, nowadays with the 21th century coming, the feminism does not seem to evanesce. For women, the half of the population on the earth, Feminism is the desperate ideology in which they need to live as a sincere human being. The position of women is a criterion to measure the quality of that social life. Since the predominance of men over women is deep rooted in our country. A little rate of women participating in politics. Even now such an immoral act like the discrimination of the embryo is happening somewhere. Not mentioning the actual difficulty of women s life holding the social realities and one s feeling, it is natural admitting dance as the human s affliction, namely women s affliction. But a genuine style of feminism artist s performance is not commonly done and called in our dance world . This thesis is considering those Feminism element in Korea, studying those performance since 1990. This treatise is considering feminism s concepts and the character of thoughts, how it has been developed with the growth of racial realities such as the colonial period, peninsula s partition, and democratization-movement. Treating the act of western dancing originated from Isadora Duncan and korean dance originated from Koo-Ja Bae to acknowledge the relation between dance and feminism also in which direction is the feminism performance is flowing since the 1990 s. On behalf, the last chapter analyzing the video films of Hak-Sun Lim s 「wooden tomb」the 80 s a korean creative performer, Myung-Suk Park s 「A morning wake up alone」a feminist choreographer, and Sun-Jung Kim s 「staying」a unprecedented ballet performer. Analyzation of the character of feminism s performance and its element on the basis of data research was done by the press. The work 「wooden tomb」expresses the tragic reality of korean-women who were sacrificed by the men-dominated ideology, with talking about Jungsin-Dae . The product 「A morning wake up alone」 represents the processing of the housewife who is going to find the perfection of self. The performance 「staying」shows a strong will of a woman who develops her life with accepting reality. This thesis is a research of the feminism s performances in the 90 to help those performances, sharing the progress, and to be severely reliable to the feminist s view point. Encouraging the korean dance and activating the feminism performance in it is to be little bit helpful for the development in women s history.
