초등미술에서의 공공디자인 교육 연구

Abstract

포스트모더니즘과 구성주의적 패러다임이 주를 이루는 현대 사회에서, 현대인들이 보다 인간답고 행복한 삶을 살기 위해서는 다양성이 존중되고, 개인 위주의 경쟁 중심이 아닌 공존적 복지 중심의 가치가 실현되어야 한다는 데 의견을 모으고 있다. 이에 따라 현대 사회는 ‘공공성’을 중요 키워드로 인식하고, 공공성의 바탕 위에서 보다 인간적인 삶을 영위하기 위한 다양한 실천 전략들을 제시하고 있다. 그리고 ‘공공디자인을 통한 공동체의 삶의 질 향상’ 은 그 실천 전략 중에 하나이다. 현대인의 생활 장면 곳곳에서 공공디자인을 분리하기란 불가능할 정도로, 현대인은 필연적으로 공공디자인 생활 요소에 노출되어 있다. 그만큼 공공디자인이 현대인의 생활에 미치는 영향력 또한 실질적이고 복합적이라는 의미이다. 나아가 생활 속에서 탄생한 문화 예술적 산물로서의 공공디자인의 가치는 시간이 지남에 따라 더욱 강조되고 있다. 그러나 이러한 사회적 영향력을 파악하여 공공디자인 관련 정책 및 교육을 적극적으로 추진해온 세계의 여러 선진국들과는 달리, 한국 사회가 공공디자인에 주목하고 이를 발전시키기 위해 시행하는 정책적, 교육적 움직임들은 아직 초보적 수준에 머물러 있다. 또한 시각문화중심으로 전개되는 현대의 삶에서, 학생들이 수없이 접촉하게 되는 시각 문화 환경 요소와 비평적, 창의적으로 소통할 수 있는 기본 능력을 갖추도록 하는 것은 현대의 교육의 주요 과제가 되고 있다. 따라서 현대 사회의 시각 문화 환경의 큰 영역을 차지하고 있는 공공디자인 관련 교육의 경험은 현대사회의 필수 기본 기초 교육과정으로서 반드시 이루어져야 한다. 여기서 우리는 미술 교육이 공공디자인 교육을 강화해야 하는 당위성과 만나게 된다. 왜냐하면 이것은 다른 어떤 교과보다 미술 교육을 통해 가장 충실히 달성될 수 있기 때문이다. 따라서 본 연구 과정은, 기초기본교육을 통해 전체적 인식의 틀을 형성하는 시기인 초등학교에서 미술 수업을 통한 공공디자인의 기본 개념 교육의 당위성을 확인해 보고, 이와 함께 비평적, 소통적, 창조적 교육활동이 포함된 공공디자인 교육의 한 사례를 제시하는 것을 주요 목적으로 한다. 이 목적에 따른 연구 방법은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 문헌을 통해 공공디자인의 개념과 유형을 정리하고, 현대 사회에서 공공디자인의 가치와 한국 사회에서 공공디자인의 현황을 파악하여 보았다. 둘째, 공공디자인 교육의 교육철학적 배경과 아동 디자인 교육의 가치를 이론적으로 고찰해 보았다. 셋째, 공공디자인 교육 단원을 개발하기 위하여, 현재의 초등학교 미술교육과정과 초등학교 고학년 아동의 미술발달 단계적 특성을 탐색하였다. 넷째, 지역사회의 스트리트 퍼니처 디자인을 통한 공공디자인 교육 수업 단원을 개발, 경기도 수원시에 소재한 초등학교의 6학년 학습자를 대상으로 수업을 진행하였다. 다섯째, 공공디자인 수업 전과 후의 인식도 변화 비교와, 공공디자인 수업 참여를 통한 학습자들의 수업 창작물의 분석을 통해 초등학교에서의 공공디자인 교육의 당위성을 정리, 결론을 내려 보았다. 이러한 연구 과정을 통해 얻은 결론은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 본 연구자가 개발한 공공디자인 교육활동에 참여한 학습자는 공공디자인에 대한 개념과 공공디자인이 갖추어야 할 요소들에 대해 이해하게 되었다. 둘째, 본 연구 활동에 참여한 학습자는 공공디자인이 갖추어야 할 요소들을 고려하여 기존의 공공디자인에 대해 비평적으로 사고할 수 있게 되었고, 대안을 제시해보는 창조적 사고 과정이 활발해졌다는 것을 스스로 지각하게 되었다. 셋째, 본 연구 활동에 참여한 학습자는 자신의 창의적 아이디어를 표현할 때 공공디자인이 갖추어야 할 요소들을 고려하고 그 적합성을 탐색한 후, 그 결과를 디자인 작품으로 표현하였다. 넷째, 본 연구 활동에 참여한 학습자는 교육 활동의 전 과정을 통해 현대 사회에서 공공디자인의 가지는 가치와 영향력에 대해 보다 깊이 있게 이해하게 되었고, 공공디자인을 통해 능동적으로 사회와 소통할 수 있다는 긍정적 의지를 갖게 되었다. 연구자는 본 연구를 통해 초등학교에서의 공공디자인 교육의 당위성을 확인하고, 실제 교육현장에서 적용 가능한 공공디자인 교육 방법의 한 예를 제시하고자 하였다. 현대의 다양한 시각문화 환경에서 공공디자인이 차지하는 비중은 상당히 크다. 또한 공공디자인이 가지는 비중의 확장은 앞으로도 계속 될 것이다. 따라서 학습자들은 현대 사회에서 능동적인 지식 생산자, 문화 창조자로서의 역할을 충실히 이행하기 위하여 공공디자인과 친해져야 하며, 공공디자인 통해 사고하고, 소통하는 과정을 경험하는 것이 반드시 필요하다. 이를 위하여 현재 공공디자인에 대한 전문적인 접근이 거의 없는 초등미술교육 현장에서 미술교육을 담당하는 교육자들이 그 중요성을 하루 빨리 인식하고, 그에 합당한 다양한 교육 프로그램을 개발하고 학습자들에게 교육 경험을 제공할 때, 우리 사회의 공공디자인은 ‘모두를 위한 좋은 디자인’으로 우리 생활 속에서 충실히 그 역할을 다 할 수 있을 것이다.;In the modern society which is dominated by Post-modernism and Constructivism paradigm, many people say that diversity should be respected and the value focus on coexistent welfare rather than competition should be realized to make modern people’s life more happier and live like a more human being. For this reason, modern society is aware of Publicness as an important key word and suggests diverse practical strategies to lead the better human life based on the Publicness. The improvement in the quality of life of community through the Public Design is one of the practical strategies. Modern people are exposed to Public Design life factors as a necessity so it’s almost impossible to separate the Public Design from everywhere in modern people’s life. It means its impact on the modern people’s life is also substantial and complex. Besides, the value of the Public Design as the fruit of culture and arts which is created in everyday life has been stressed more as the time has gone by. However, unlike many advanced countries that have found this social influence and pushed the policy and education related to Public Design actively, the move of policy and education that Korean society have noticed Public Design and enforced to develop it is still in early stage. Moreover, in the modern life developed focus on Visual Culture, making students having the basic ability to be able to communicate with Visual Culture Environment critically and creatively becomes a key task of the modern education. Therefore, this study aims at confirming the necessity of Fundamental concept education through art education in the elementary school which is the time when children form the total outline of understanding through the basic fundamental education and it also aims to suggest an example of Public Design education including critical, communicational and creative educational activities. The methods used for this study are as following. First, I organized the concept and types of Public Design through literature and figured out the value of Public Design in modern society and the Current State of Public Design in Korean society. Second, theoretically I examined the background of on Public Design education and the value of children design education. Third, I searched the current elementary school art curriculum and the gradational the upper elementary school graders ‘ art development to develop Public Design curriculum. Fourth, I developed Public Design education curriculum through the community Street-Furniture Design and in this study, the 6th grade elementary school students in Suwon, Gyeonggi Province were involved. Fifth, from comparing the changing awareness before and after Public Design and analysis students’ class through the Public Design class participation, I organized and drew a conclusion about necessity of Public Design education in elementary schools. The results of this study are as following. First, the participants in this study figured out the concept of Public Design and the important factors that Public Design should be equipped with. Second, the participants in this study think critically about the existing Public Design considering the important factors that Public Design should be equipped and they realized that their creative processes suggesting an alternative was more active than before. Third, when the participants in this study express their creative idea they consider the Public Design factors and searched the suitability and then expressed the results in design works. Fourth, through the whole process of the education activities the participants in this study understand the value and influence of Public Design in the modern society more deeply and also they have positive will that they can interact actively with society through the Public Design. Public Design is considerably heavy on the Visual culture environment. Also, the importance will be expanded continuously. Accordingly, students need to be familiar with Public Design to perform a role faithfully as the person who produces knowledge and creates culture actively in the modern society and it is positively necessary that they experience thinking and interacting through Public Design. For this, when the teachers are in charge of art education in the elementary art education field realize the importance immediately and develop various education programs which is suitable for that and provide learners with education experience, the Public Design in our society will be able to fulfill the role of ‘Good design for all’ in our life.
