7차 중학교 『국사』의 국왕에 관한 내용 개선 방안

Abstract

국왕은 나라의 지도자로서 그 나라를 대표하는 상징적인 존재이다. 국왕이 중요한 존재였다는 것은 어떠한 수식을 동원하지 않아도 명백한 사실이다. 특히 조선은 조선왕조라고 불리고 있는 것만 보아도 국왕이 갖는 의미가 상당히 크다는 것을 알 수 있다. 조선의 국왕은 최고 군사권과 결정권을 가진 나라의 수장으로 문무백관들의 보좌를 받으면서 나라를 다스렸고, 국왕과 관련된 명칭부터 일반사대부나 백성의 문화와는 구별되었던 왕실문화가 있었다. 국왕과 관련된 기록과 유물, 유적은 양으로만 보아도, 엄청난 분량이며, 종류도 다양하고, 그 질도 우수하다. 하지만 학계에서는 근현대 역사학의 가장 중요한 과제로 기존의 왕조사 중심의 역사 인식의 극복을 강조하였다. 그리하여 역사교육에서도 왕조사 중심의 역사교육을 비판하여 왔고, 새로이 일반사람들의 생활사가 주목받게 되면서 조선왕조사에서 가장 보편적이면서도 특수한 모습을 보이는 국왕의 모습은 찾기 힘들게 되었다. 이 같은 상황에서 최근 학계에는 특정 왕대의 모습이 아닌 보편적인 국왕이라는 존재 자체에 대한 정의가 필요하다는 목소리가 나오기 시작했다. 이러한 역사학계의 움직임에 맞추어 역사교육에서도 함께 고민해 볼 필요성이 있다. 따라서 본고에서는 우선 기존의 학계 연구를 바탕으로 보편적인 국왕의 모습을 정리해보았다. 학계의 연구를 살펴보면 정치, 문화, 사상 면에서 이미 조선의 국왕에 대한 연구가 이루어지고 있었다. 이러한 학계의 연구 성과들과 현행 7차 교육과정 중학교 『국사』의 조선전기 단원의 목표 및 내용 체계를 기초로 국왕과 관련한 내용에 어떠한 문제점이 있는지 분석하였다. 분석한 결과 다음과 같은 문제점을 찾을 수 있었다. 첫째, 국왕의 존재 및 의미에 대한 설명이 부족하다. 양반, 평민 등 다른 계층에 대한 설명에 비해서 국왕에 대한 설명이 생략됨으로써 조선시대와 국왕을 이해하는 데 학습자의 이해를 저해하게 된다. 둘째, 국왕의 활동에만 치중한 서술이다. 제도와 사상 속에서 국왕의 역할을 제대로 설명하지 못한 채 특정 왕의 활동을 중심으로 나열하여 서술함으로써 학습자 스스로 탐구하게 하기보다는 암기에 치중하게 하였다. 셋째, 국왕에 대한 심화 학습을 요구하는 교사용 지도서와의 괴리가 있다. 교과서의 부족한 내용임에도 불구하고, 지도서에서는 국왕은 물론 왕실과 관련한 기본적 지도 방안 없이 그 이상의 심화단계를 학습자에 대한 학습 방안으로 제시하고 있는 상황이었다. 7차 중학교 『국사』의 조선전기 국왕에 대한 내용 분석을 바탕으로 현 교육과정에 어울리는 개선방안을 제시하였다. 조선의 국왕을 조선시대를 이해하는 매개체로 이용하여 단원의 처음에 개괄하여 국왕을 통해 국가 운영 원리와, 통치 체제 등에 대해 이해하는데 도움이 되게 하며, 심화과정으로 국왕의 일상생활을 함께 볼 수 있도록 하여 학습자가 조선의 국왕을 명확한 실체로써 조선이라는 나라와 함께 이해할 수 있도록 구성하였다. 이때 학습자가 흥미를 가질 수 있도록 적절한 그림 자료를 활용하고, 탐구력을 자극할 수 있는 적절한 사료를 선정하여 구성하였다.;The king of a country is a symbolic existence which represents the country. The fact that king was an important figure is a clear fact even if it is not decorated with anything. Especially, looking at the fact that Joseon is called the Joseon Dynasty, it can be known that the meaning of king is considerably great. The king of Joseon was the head of the country with the best military and decisive power, and ruled the country supported by civil and military functionaries, and there was a culture in the palace which was distinct from the culture of general nobles and people to the names related to the king. Records and relics, ruins are great in their amount, and their types are diverse, with their excellent quality. However, in the scholarly field, it emphasized the overcoming of historic perception centered on previous kingdom as the most important task for the modern history study. Therefore, it has been criticizing history education focusing on dynasty, and newly, normal people’s daily lives gained attention, so the figure of king which shows the most special features as well as universality in the Joseon Dynasty came to be difficult to find. In such situation, recently, the scholarly field came to raise the voice of the necessity for defining the existence of king itself as universal, and not, certain kings. Matching such movement of the historic scholars, it is necessary to consider about history education, too. Therefore, in the study, based on previous studies in the field, universal figure of king was reviewed. Reviewing studies of the field, there was already studies about kings of Joseon in politics, culture, and thoughts. Based on such studies and the aim and content of the chapter system of early Joseon in the current 7theducation course’s middle school『Korean History』, it was reviewed what problems there were in contents related to kings. As a result of the analysis, the following problems could be found. First, the existence and meaning of king lacks. Compared to explanations about other classes such as nobles, normal people, and etc. explanation of kings were omitted, which makes understanding Joseon age and kings lack. Second, it is focused only on the activities of kings. Through systems and thoughts, it failed to explain the role of kings and just narrated focusing on kings’ activities, making learners learn by heart rather than making them explore on their own. Third, there is difference with the instruction guide which demands in-depth study about kings. Even if the textbook lacks contents, the instruction guide does not have any basic method for teaching things related to kings as well as royal family, suggesting a more in-depth stage to learners as studying method. Based on the content analysis about the kings in the early Joseon Dynasty of the 7thmiddle school『Korean History』, an improvement method with fits the current education course was suggested. By utilizing the king of Joseon as medium for understanding Joseon age, it was structured to introduce such content in the first part of the chapter to help understand the principle of national operation, dominating system, and etc. through kings, and as in-depth study, it enabled kings’ daily lives to be reviewed so that learners could understand the king of Joseon as clear fact along with the country itself. Also, appropriate picture data was utilized and selected so that learners can be interested and have their ability for exploration stimulated.
