7차 교육과정 고등학교 「국사」 교과서 ‘중인’에 대한 서술 내용 분석

Abstract

현행 7차 교육과정에서의 고등학교 『국사』에서의 서술은 주로 지배층이 주가 된다. 가장 대표적인 경우가 바로 조선시대이다. 조선시대에 대한 서술은 거의 양반층이 위주가 된다. 하지만 역사를 이루는 사람들에는 지배층만 있는 것은 아니다. 밑에서 받쳐주는 또 다른 계층들이 존재하기 마련이다. 이 중에서 양반과 같은 지배층이되 양반의 밑에서 보좌해주는 신분이 있다. 바로 중인층으로 이들은 조선시대에서 개화기로 넘어가는 과정에서 가장 활발히 활동했던 신분층이다. 중인은 조선 초기 새롭게 재편성된 신분제 속에서 양반과는 다른 신분으로 양반을 보조하는 입장이었지만 후기와 말기로 갈수록 그들만의 문화를 생산해내며, 하나의 계층으로 탄생하여 근대화의 초석을 이루는 역할을 하였다. 그러나 교과서에는 그런 중인에 대한 제대로 된 설명이 부족한 현실이다. 이에 본고에서는 현행 고등학교 『국사』의 중인에 대한 서술상의 문제점을 분석하고 중인층에 대한 부족한 서술을 개선하고자 하였다. 본 논문은 크게 세 단계로 전개하였다. 우선, 교과서 분석과 개선안 모색을 위한 이론적 토대를 마련하기 위해 두 가지 분야에 대한 검토를 진행하였다. 중인층의 형성 및 과정, 신분 상승 운동, 문화 활동에 대한 학계의 연구 성과, 현행 교과서가 구성된 배경인 교육과정상의 단원 목표와 내용 체계가 그것이다. 검토된 내용을 토대로 하여 교과서 안의 해당 분야를 분석하였다. 신분제 안에 속해있는 중인에 대한 개념과 그들이 신분에의 상승을 꿈꾸며 일으킨 신분 상승 운동, 신분 상승 운동의 일환으로 이루었던 그들만의 독특한 문화 등 중인 계층의 전반적인 모습에 대한 분석을 통해 조선시대 사회상을 알아보려 하였다. 그러나 교과서 분석 결과, 중인에 대한 서술은 간단하게 되어 있었으며 중인이 어떤 계층이었는지 정확히 알기 힘들었다. 또한 역사적인 자료의 제시가 부족하여, 교수-학습 활동이 사실 주입 및 암기로 치우칠 우려가 높았다. 마지막으로 위와 같은 문제점을 극복할 할 수 있는 개선안을 모색하였다. 중인에 대한 전체적인 내용을 유기적으로 관련시키도록 내용을 전개하고자 하였으며, 읽기 자료 및 여러 그림 자료를 첨부하여 학습자의 학습을 유도하고자 하였다. 그를 통해 조선시대 사회상에 대한 전반적인 이해를 돕고자 하였다.;The descriptions in Korean history for high school students in the current 7thcurricula focus mainly the ruling class. The typical example is the Joseon era. Most of the descriptions about the Joseon era focus mainly on the ruling class. However, it is not only the ruling class that makes up history. The other classes supporting from below are bound to exist. Of these classes there is a social class that belongs to the ruling class like yangban (the nobility) but at the same time assists the ruling class from below. This class is the Joongin class that led a most active life in the course of turning over from the Joseon era to the enlightened age. Joongin people were in a position to assist yangban as a social status different from yangban in the class system that was newly reorganized in the early Joeon era, but in the latter part of the Joeon era, they produced their own culture and came into being as another class and played the role of building the base of modernization. But in the textbooks there are hardly proper explanations about the Joongin people. So, in this thesis, the problems with the descriptions about the joongin people in current Korean history textbooks for highschool students were analyzed and inadequate descriptions about the joongin people were improved. This thesis is developed roughly in three stages. First, in order to prepare the theoretical basis for analyzing the textbooks and exploring improvement measures, the two areas were examined. They are the formation and process of the joongin class, status raise movements, outcomes of academic circles’ researches on cultural activities, the unit objectives and contents system in the current curricula of which current textbooks are composed. Based on the examined contents, the applicable areas in the textbooks were analyzed. This thesis attempted to examine the state of society in the Joseon era through conducting analysis on the overall appearance of the joongin class such as the concept of the joonin who belonged to the class system, and the movements they staged to raise their social status as they dreamt of the rise in social status, and their own unique culture they formed as part of the social status raise movements. However, the results of analyzing the textbooks showed that the descriptions about the joongin class in the textbooks were so brief that it was difficult to exactly grasp what class the joongin class was. And due to the lack of historical data, it was feared that teaching and learning activities regarding this matter were done through mere cramming and memorizing historical facts. Lastly, this thesis explored the ways of improving and overcoming the above-mentioned problems. And it attempted to develop the contents so that the overall contents about Joongin can be systematically related and induce learning from the learners by attaching reading materials and various picture data, and through this, to help to understand the overall appearance of society in the Joseon era.
