부모의 문화자본과 청소년의 문화자본이 학업성취에 미치는 영향

Abstract

This study assumed that parents' social-economic backgrounds influence on forming cultural capital of parents and juveniles and that possessing of cultural capital has the positive effects on the students' academic achievements. And, it intended to inspect if cultural capital influences on the academic achievements independently of the social-economic backgrounds. For these aims above, research topics were set like followings below. First, it's research about relations between social-economic capital including parents' vocation, education and income, cultural capital and the academic achievements. Second, it's research about effects of students' cultural capital on the academic achievements and level of the will for education. The social-economic backgrounds were divided into parents' vocation, academic background and income. Cultural capital was divided into capital of parents and that of the student centered on taste of the cultural consumption. The survey was done for the 2nd grade students of general high school in Seoul. And, it examined score of academic achievements from the National Academic Evaluation Test. The result of data analysis are like followings below. First, it showed that students' academic achievements are higher when parents have professional job with higher academic background and type of housing ownership is their own house. If parents possess much cultural capital, students had much more cultural experience with parents when young. So, it showed that such things have positive(+) correlation. Second, it showed that the more students have cultural capital, the higher their level of the educational will is, and the better their learning attitude is. In addition, it showed that such attitude has the greatest effect on the students' academic score. The result of this study, or cultural capital has the independent effects on the academic achievements, is expected to offer wider viewpoint for the precedent studies which couldn't catch the independent effects of cultural capital, because it's formed under the effects of the social-economic backgrounds. Furthermore, the fact that cultural capital has the independent effects suggests that hierarchical structure of our society has been stable and school education takes a role of cultural reproduction.;이 연구에서는 부모의 사회경제적 배경이 부모와 학생의 문화자본의 형성에 영향을 미치며, 문화적 자본을 보유하는 것이 학생들의 학업성취에 긍정적인 영향을 미칠 것으로 보고, 문화자본이 사회경제적 배경과 독립적으로 학업성취에 영향을 미치는지 밝히고자 하였다. 이러한 연구의 목적으로 다음과 같은 연구문제를 설정하였다. 첫째, 부모의 직업, 교육, 소득과 같은 사회경제적자본과 문화자본, 학업성취의 관련성에 관한 것이다. 둘째, 학생의 문화자본이 학업 성취와 교육받고자하는 수준에 미치는 영향에 관한 것이다. 사회경제적 배경은 부모의 직업, 학력, 소득으로 나누었다. 문화적 자본은 부모와 학생으로 나누어서 문화소비취향을 중심으로 살펴보았다. 서울시 일반계 고등학교 2학년 학생들을 대상으로 설문조사를 하였고, 전국연합학력평가를 통해서 학업성취 점수를 알아보았다. 자료를 분석한 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 부모의 직업이 전문직일수록, 학력이 높을수록, 주택소유형태가 자가일 때 학생의 학업성취가 높게 나타났으며, 부모가 문화자본을 많이 소유한 경우 학생의 어린 시절 부모와 함께 한 문화 경험이 많았고 이러한 것들은 학생들의 학업성취와 정(+)의 상관관계가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 문화자본을 많이 소유한 학생일수록 전반적으로 교육받고자하는 수준이 높게 나타났으며, 학습태도가 좋은 것으로 밝혀졌다. 또한 이러한 학습태도는 학생의 학업성적에 가장 큰 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 문화적 자본이 학업성취에 독립적인 영향력이 있다는 이 연구의 결과는 문화적 자본이 사회경제적 배경의 영향을 받아 형성되기 때문에 문화적 자본의 독자적인 영향력에 주목하지 못했던 연구들에 대해 좀 더 폭넓은 시각을 제공할 수 있을 것으로 기대한다. 뿐만 아니라 문화적 자본의 독립적인 효과가 있다는 사실은 우리 사회의 계층 구조가 견고해지고 있음을 암시하며 학교교육이 문화적 재생산의 역할을 수행하고 있음을 시사한다.
