dc.description.abstractThere has been reports that Aloe had bradykininase activity in vitro and it was effective in the treatment of Roentgen ulcers, Dermatoses and burns in vivo. However, little information is available on the mechanism of anti-inflammatory effect of Aloe, although Aloe has been used for many centuries. Thus this experiment was set up to investigate the anti-inflammatory effect of Aloe and drug interaction of it with hydrocortisone, The crude powder or ethanol ppt. of Aloe vera were given orally to rats either Aloe alone or in combination with hydrocortisone, Anti-inflammatory effect was evaluated quantitatively by determining the inhibitory effects on carrageenin-induced edema, leucocyte emigration and protein exudation in inflammatory locus. The summarized results are as follows: (1) Aloe vera crude powder 2g/Kg and Aloe-ethanol ppt. 1g/kg reduced carrageenin-induced edema of rat foot by 12.30% and 17.21% reapectively, while hydrocortisone reduced edema by 22.99%. The combination dose of Aloe crude powder and hydrocortisone reduced edema by 28.36%, so the concurrent administration showed approximately 1.3 times greater activity than hydrocortisone alone. The combination dose of Aloe-ethanol ppt. and hydrocortisone reduced edema by 23.79%. (2) Aloe crude powder (2g/kg) and Aloe-ethanol ppt. (1g/kg) inhibited leucocyte emigration by 35.62% and 41.65% respectively, while hydrocortisone inhibited by 55.94%. The combination dose of Aloe crude powder with hydrocortisone inhibited leucocyte emigration by 74.12%, so the concurrent administration showed 1.3 times greater activity than hydrocortisone alone. And the combination dose of Aloe-ethanol ppt. with hydrocortisone inhibited by 60.67%, so the concurrent administration showed 1.1 times greater activity than hydrocortisone alone. (3) Aloe crude powder (2g/kg) and Aloe-ethanol ppt. (1g/kg) inhibited protein exudation by 10.33% and 20.13% respectively, while hydrocortisone inhibited by 27.95%. The combination dose of Aloe crude powder with hydrocortisone inhibited protein exudation by 45.4%, so the concurrent administration showed 1.6 times greater activity than hydrocortisone alone. And the combination dose of Aloe-ethanol ppt. with hydrocortisone inhibited 31.44%, so the concurrent administration showed 1.1 times greater activity than hydrocortisone alone. From the above results, it might be concluded that Aloe vera crude powder and Aloe-ethanol ppt. have anti-inflammatory activity, and concurrent administration of Aloe and hydrocortisone showed greater anti-inflammatory activity than single administration of hydrocortisone.;Aloe aborescence 가 bradykininase activity가 있다는 in vitro test와 Roentgen ulcers 및 화상에 유효하다는 in vivo test 가 보고된 바 있어, Aloe vera 조분말과 Aloe-ethanol 불용물을 흰쥐에 단독투여 및 기존 항염증약인 hydrocortisone 과 병용투여함으로써 염증의 직접적인 인자인 부종, 백혈구 유출 및 혈관 투과성 항진으로 인한 혈청단백질의 삼출등을 억제하는 정도를 in vivo를 실험하여 다음과 같은 결과를 얻었다. 1) Aloe 조분말은 단독투여시 부종 억제효과로 인한 소염작용이 있었으며, hydrocortisone과 병용투여시 소염작용이 증대되었다. 또 Aloe-ethanol 불용물도 단독투여시 부종 억제효과로 인한 소염효과가 있었다. 2) Aloe 조분말과 Aloe-ethanol 불용물을 단독투여시 백혈구 유출 억제로 인한 소염작용이 있었으며, hydrocortisone과 병용투여시 소염효과가 증대되었다. 3) Aloe 조분말과 Aloe-ethanol 불용물을 단독투여시 혈관 투과성 항진의 억제로 인한 소염효과가 있었으며, hydrocortisone 과 병용투여시 소염효과가 증대되었다. 이상의 결과로 Aloe 는 소염작용이 있으며, hydrocortisone과 병용투여시 소염작용이 증대하는 것으로 사료된다.-
