아르데코 직물디자인 연구

Abstract

본 논문은 아르데코 직물디자인의 이미지를 가진 직물디자인 작품제작을 위해 아르데코 직물디자인을 연구하는데 그 목적이 있다. 아르데코는 예술과 산업의 결합을 이룬 미의 한 양식으로 단순하고 간결한 이미지를 추구했다. 그리하여 근대적인 성격과 결별한 아르데코는 모던 디자인의 원류로서 20세기초 장식예술 전반을 지배했다. 1925년 파리장식예술관에서 열린 '현대 장식미술산업박람회'(Exposition Internationale des Arts De'coratifs et Industriels Modernes)는 아르데코의 정점을 이루었다. 아르데코 양식은 아르누보의 환상적이고 쾌락적인 과잉장식에 대한 반발로 생겨났다. 직물디자인에 혁명을 일으킨 아르데코 직물디자인은 과거의 복잡하고 사실적 표현에서 벗어나 단순하고 모던한 경향으로 탈바꿈하게 되었다. 그리고 과거 패턴의 예술적 모사였던 직물디자인의 개념에서 탈피하여 창조적 디자인의 범주로 그 위치를 확보하였다. 아르데코 직물디자인의 특징을 지적하면 모티프와 색채의 변화에 있다. 모티프의 변화를 보면 첫째, 과거의 단조로운 기하학적 모티프에서 다양하고 대담한 형태로 변화하였다. 아르데코의 기하학적 직물디자인은 획기적인 구성에 의해 추상성을 강조한 대담한 기하학적 모티프로 이루어 졌다. 둘째, 복잡하고 사실적이었던 꽃의 모티프는 양식화되었다. 아르누보를 포함한 과거의 사실적인 꽃은 양식화 되었고 덩쿨, 리본, 꽃바구니, 부케대신 꽃 그 자체만이 강조되었다. 셋째, 아프리카와 동양의 에스닉 모티브가 첨가되어 직물디자인의 레파토리가 다양하게 되었다. 아르데코 직물디자인의 색채는 금, 은색이 주류를 이루었고 러시아발레와 추상미술의 영향으로 등장한 원색계통과 그외에 파스텔색조, 탱고, 강한 핑크 둥의 다양한 색이 사용되었다. 이러한 아르데코 직물디자인에 영향을 준 배경으로는 첫째, 화가들의 기여를 들 수 있다. 그들은 과거 직물패턴의 모사 대신 창조의 디자인을 하여 직물디자인을 예술적 영역으로 끌어 올렸다. 둘째, 식민지박람회등으로 인한 식민지예술의 보급을 들 수 있다. 그 당시 프랑스의 많은 식민지에서 온 고기물(古器物)은 직물디자이너에게 영감을 주어 다양한 에스닉 디자인을 만들게 하였다. 셋째, 푸아레의 직물디자인 산업의 육성을 들 수 있다. 그는 에콜 마르틴(Ecole Martine)과 프티트(Petite Usine)을 세워 아르데코 이미지를 가진 새로운 감각의 직물디자인을 생산하였다. 이상의 연구를 바탕으로 본인이 제작한 아르데코 이미지의 직물디자인 3작품에서 재확인된 사실은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 아르데코 직물디자인은 현대 직물디자인의 기조를 이루었다. 직물디자인에서 아르데코 양식은 귀중한 문화의 소산이다. 역사적 바탕이 없는 우리의 직물디자인은 이러한 역사적 양식을 간접적으로 체험하여 그 발전을 꾀하여야 할 것이다. 둘째, 창조의 개념이 현대의 직물디자인에 적용된 것을 재확인할 수 있었다. 직물디자인은 기교나 기술로 이루어질 것이 아니라 창조적이어야 한다. 셋째, 의상의 용도를 위한 직물디자인은 단순한 회화의 도해가 아니라 신체와 조화를 이루는 것이어야 한다. 이것은 최근의 직물디자이너에게 특히 요구되는 점이라 할 수 있다. 이상과 같이 아르데코 직물디자인은 모사에서 창조라는 새로운 방향을 제시하였다 따라서 아르데코 직물디자인은 직물디자인에서 간과해서는 안될 핵심인 것이다.;The purpose of this thesis is to study textile design in Art Deco style as a preliminary work in making portfolios of textile design with image of Art Deco. As a mode of beauty, Art Deco which made a union of art and industry persuded the simple and neat image. Therefore Art Deco, which was seperated itself from permodernity, dominated over all the decorative arts of 20th century as the origin of modern design. The exposition of 1925(Exposition Internationale des Arts Decoratifs Modernes)was the peak of Art Deco. Art Deco sprang up as a revel against the flamboyant, superflous decoration of Art Nouveau. The textile design in Dexo style which spurred a revolution in textile design has been transformed into a trend of simplicity and modernity from the complex and realistic expression of textile design in the past. Also the concept of textile design as the artistic imitation of pattern in the past has been changed to that as creation. The textile design in Deco style is characterlized by changes in motives and color in several aspect. First, simple geometrical motives have been replaced with various and bold patterns. The geometrical textile design in Deco style consisted of bold geometrical motives which emphasized abstraction through unusual design. Second, it used stylized floral motives. Realistic floral partterns in past style including Art Nouveau became stylized and flower per se, rather than ivies, ribbons, flower basket and bouquet, became the focal point. Third, the addition of ethnic motives from Africa and Orient made the repertory of Textile design more varied. The color of Textile design in Deco style was dominated by gold and silver colors and various other colors that were influenced by Ballet Russes and abstract art were also used. Among various factors that had influenced the textile design in Deco style, the first is the contribution of artists, who elevated textile design to the realm of art through the creation of new designs rather than the imitation of existing patterns. The second is the distribution of colonial arts through the exibitions. French textile designers at that times were inspired by antiques of French colonies for various ethnic designs. The third is Poiret's incouragement. He founded Ecole Martine and Petite Usine and produced modern textile design with image of Art Deco. The conclusion that I have drawn by making 3 portfolios of textile design with image of Art Deco under bases of my research an Art Deco is three-fold. Firt, textile design in Deco style is the foundation of modern textile design. The development of Art Deco in textile design should be based an the direct, experience of historical styles. Second, textile design employed the concept of creation than that of imitation. Textile design should not be based an craftmanship or technique but creativity. Third, textile design should not be a mere illustration of ???wing but creative design in harmony with human body, which may be the most important thing for today's textile designers should bare in mind. Textile design in Deco style offered a new direction. Therefore textile design in Art Deco is an important style which should not be overlooked in textile design.
