제7차 교육과정 고등학교 국사교과서 문화사의 서술형태 분석

Abstract

현재 국사교과서의 문제점으로 가장 많이 지적되는 것중의 하나는 ‘단편 사실의 나열식 구조’로 구성되어 있다는 점이다. 이것은 교과서가 전달하고자 하는 바를 학습자로 하여금 스스로 찾아내야만 하는 어려움을 가중시키며, 단순한 암기 위주의 학습방법으로 이어지도록 한다. 특히 그 중에서도 ‘문화사’의 경우는 더욱 극명하게 문제점이 드러난다. 문화사는 제한된 지면안에 건축, 문학, 음악, 미술 등의 상당히 많은 내용을 다루고 있어 역사에서의 ‘시간성’을 보여주기 어렵기 때문이다. 따라서 학습자의 역사이해를 효율적으로 돕기 위해서는 ‘과연 어떻게 전달해야 하는가?’ 를 고민하는 과정은 곧 ‘응집성(coherence)’ 이라는 서술형태에 관한 논의와 연결될 수 있다. ‘응집성’ 이란 텍스트를 이루고 있는 여러 개념들과 그들 사이의 관계가 서로 밀착되는 성질을 말한다. 따라서 이는 상호 밀접하게 관련된 각 문장 사이의 위계구조를 거시적 관점에서 파악함으로써 전달하고자 하는 핵심적 의미를 명확히 하는데 얼만큼 기여했는지를 가늠하는 기준이 될 수 있다. 이 때 현행 제7차 고등학교 국사교과서 문화사의 내용 중에서 ‘건축’과 관련된 소항목의 서술형태를 실제로 분석해 본 결과, 응집성이 매우 미흡한 것으로 판단되었다. 상위수준과 하위수준의 위계가 체계적으로 구성되어 있지 않을 뿐만 아니라 최상위수준에 많은 내용이 수집관계로 나열되어 있어 국사교과서에서 무엇을 말하려고 하는지 주제가 분명히 드러나지 않았기 때문이다. 또한 이것은 ‘목표-내용-교재-방법-평가’라고 하는 도식에서 알 수 있듯이, 곧 평가상의 난점으로 이어지게 되었다. 즉 교과서의 나열식 서술형태의 문제점으로 말미암아 지식·이해형 중심의 평가가 이루어질 수밖에 없었던 것이다. 제7차 개정 교육과정에서 새로운 문화사를 표방하면서 신설되는 ‘한국문화사’라는 과목은 많은 논의과정을 거치면서 확정 고시안을 발표하기에 이르렀다. 이러한 시점에서 ‘한국문화사’가 지향하는 전체사로서의 성격을 실현하기 위해서는 무엇보다 내용요소의 응집력있는 서술형태의 모색이라는 방법론과 그 맥을 같이하고 있음을 주지해야 한다. 따라서 본고에서는 조선후기 ‘수원화성’을 소항목으로 설정하고 그 안에 내포하고 있는 정치, 경제, 사회 등의 각 요소들을 다각적으로 구성해낼 수 있는 서술모형을 제안하였다. 이를 통해 평가 측면에 있어서도 기존의 암기위주의 단편적 지식 평가문항에서 벗어나 사고형 중심의 평가가 가능함을 보여주었다.;Now a days one of the problems that korean history textbook has is ‘short facts in a row’. It makes many students find the main topic on their textbook in person and commit everything to memory. Especially it is an obvious fact in case of ‘Cultural History’. Cultural history textbook has many facts, architecture, literature, music, art, etc., within the limit of papers, so it is very difficult to show the passage of time. Therefore the way how to deliver historical message is related with the ‘coherence’. ‘Coherence’ is generated among fundamental notions in a textbook. So it will go far toward delivering the kernel of a subject. In this article, it has showed the coherence of cultural history textbook is fragile in view of the results so far achieved. Because there are the forms of unstructured description, many students are very hard to understand their textbooks. Also it is linked to a difficulty of evaluation. In other words it is possible not only to evaluate thinking power but also to evaluate retentive power. A textbook unit of ‘Korean Cultural History’ in 2007 national curriculum amendment that is claimed to stand for new cultural history is appeared. It is common knowledge that a cohesive form of description is in collusion with achieving the object at this point in time. Therefore this study strove to include ‘Hwasung in Suwon’ under this head and reconstruct ‘Korean Cultural History’ curriculum within restrictive scope, and exemplified a textbook unit of ‘Korean Cultural History’. This is to certify that it is possible to evaluate thinking power instead of the existing way of evaluation, retentive power.
