국민학교 영어교육 실태조사 및 교재연구

Abstract

그동안 조기영어 교육은 교육계 및 사회여론의 반대로 실시되지 못하여 왔으나 1981년 10월 문교부가 조기영어교육의 실시를 발표함으로써 국민학교에서도 영어교육을 실시하게 되었다. 본 논문에서는 문교부의 발표이후 국민학교에서의 영어교육실태를 조사하고 현재 국민학교에서 가장 많이 사용되고 있는 교재를 선택하여 교재의 내용과 배열이 목표달성에 적합하게 구성되어 있으며 문제점이 무엇인가 조사해 보았다. 조사방법은 서울시내 국민학교에서 영어를 지도하고 있는 교사들을 대상으로 질문지법을 사용하였으며, 35개의 문항으로 되어 있는 질문지 85부를 배포하여, 그중 영어교육을 실시하고 있는 65개교를 기준으로 하여 다음과 같은 결과를 얻을 수 있었다. 1) 서울에 있는 국민학교중 90% 이상의 학교에서 영어수업을 실시하고 있었다. 2) 영어수업은 주로 6학년을 대상으로 특활시간을 이용하여 주당 1시간씩 하고 있었다. 3) 영어학습에 대한 교사와 학생의 태도는 적극적이었다. 4) 중점적으로 학습되는 언어기능은 듣기와 말하기였다. 5) 수업은 대체로 청각자료에 의존하여 학생중심으로 이루어지고 있었다.;The purpose of this study is to investigate the present conditions of the English language teaching in the elementary schools in Seoul and to analyze the textbooks and other teaching materials in the English teaching. Eighty-five elementary schools in Seoul were randomly selected for the research. For the study of text-books, three textbooks were selected. A questionaire, containing thirty-five question items, was distributed to teachers teaching English in elementary schools. Major findings are: 1) English is taught in more than 90% of elementary schools in Seoul. 2) English is taught to the sixth graders one hour a week during the extra-curricular activities class. 3) Both pupils' and teachers' attitudes toward the English teaching are positive. 4) Listening and speaking skills are emphasized in teaching. 5) Classes are student-centered.
