Abstract
Study of children, as a new approach to understand a human being, forms a great part in scientific fields. Just as children can be reviewed from various aspects in their physical and mental development stages, also they can be conceived as beings having unique properties according to their changing stages. This study focuses on the reasons why the phenomenon is cause that functions of a brain are interchanged between left and right sides, to reveal a relationship of this with ages of developmental processes of children. And for the concrete revealing of this, I have identified a differentiated process of the brain as a part of theoretical research of this study, and as that of experimental research some traits which emerged in children's expressions of codes or numbers were examined. Indeed, their acts often drawing codes or symbols upside down and putting on their shoes with the wrong sides have relations to the manner that the brain operates. That is left-side and right-side optical ranges are perceived on the contrary being interchanged each other in the brain. They are, however, too natural and have no relation with any other things like the cognitive ability or poor intelligence of them. Every cells of children's brains are under the processes of development, and the contrary expressions are essentially emerged when they cannot possible recognize the contexts. If had already understood characters or the turns of figures, they could generalize and collect fundamental expressions into those rearranged. These functions-interchanging process in brain is shown normally as a temporarily passing phenomenon which is appeared at the age of 5 or 6 and gradually disappeared after the age of 7. This research, therefore, has collectively taken 952 data from 1213 persons of participant children at kindergartens and nursery schools in Seoul for 14 monthes March 1987 to April 1988. Children were guided to write characters and numbers, and the outcomes from them have been analyzed. In 12.9% among the total 256 children at the age of five, in 11% among 264 at seven, the forementioned phenomenon was appeared. To sum up, the brain function-interchanging process in children, as a property of their undifferentiated sensorymotors, has a close relation with their developments of cognition. And this was revealed as a passing phenomenon being gradually disappeared in parallel with growth and development of cognitive functions. Therefore, by this study, some approaches to understand children at the aspect of their developmental stages will be served and at the same time, it is revealed that the undifferentiated sensorymotors are to be considered as those quite independent on cognitive capability of a child.
